We're back for Part 2 of our deep dive into the Texas Killing Fields—a case so messy and heartbreaking, it's no wonder it keeps true crime fans up at night. In this episode, we continue to uncover the haunting details surrounding the 1990s victims, possible suspects, and why Calder Field remained such a tragically perfect place to dump bodies for decades. As therapists who love true crime, we bring a psychological lens to the discussion—this time focusing more on the victim profiles, the unnervingly consistent law enforcement failures, and just how many red flags went ignored. We touch on early profiling attempts, forensic missteps, and the frustrating legacy of bias and victim-blaming that clouded real progress in solving these murders. We also reference The Lights Out Podcast, and articles including “The Grisly True Story of Netflix's Crime Scene: The Texas Killing Fields” by Paul Schrodt and “Texas Killing Fields: Who Murdered Dozens Of Young Girls And Women Near Houston?” by Aaron Rasmussen.Grab your snacks and let's get uncomfortable.Instagram: @terrortalkpodcastYouTube: TerrorTalk PodcastFacebook: Halloween All Year LongTikTok: @dark.psychology.girlsAll music in this episode is composed by Mannequin Uprising. In Part 1 of our two-part series on the Texas Killing Fields, we dive into the disturbing stretch of land off I-45 near Calder Road—a place that became a dumping ground for dozens of young women and girls from the 1970s through the 1980s. We chronicle the murders and disappearances that shocked the nation, analyze the crime scene at Calder Field, and reflect on the horrifying reasons it was "perfect" for hiding bodies. As therapists and horror lovers, we bring a unique lens to the case: unpacking the early victim profiling missteps, the rampant victim blaming, and the unbelievable level of police incompetence in preserving evidence and handling crime scenes. While we save most of the psychology and corruption for Part 2, this episode is full of sharp insights and (yes) some incredulous reactions. We also reference The Lights Out Podcast and key articles that helped frame our conversation:The Grisly True Story of Netflix's ‘Crime Scene: The Texas Killing Fields' by Paul SchrodtTexas Killing Fields: Who Murdered Dozens Of Young Girls And Women Near Houston? by Aaron RasmussenListen now if you're interested in:Texas Killing Fields victims and casesVictimology and profilingCalder Field crime scene breakdownTrue crime police failuresBias in criminal investigationsTrue crime from therapists' perspectiveWhat are your thoughts on how these early investigations were handled? This week on BEHIND THE LENS, we're talking about a very special film about a very special woman that was made by another special woman. The film is AUDREY'S CHILDREN and that special woman is pioneering pediatric oncologist Dr. Audrey Evans and her groundbreaking work in the 1960s and 70s at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, or CHOP as it is more commonly known. And that special filmmaker is director AMI CANAAN MANN. AUDREY'S CHILDREN tells the untold true story of visionary British physician Dr. Audrey Evans, who burst onto the scene in 1969 as the first female Chief of Oncology at the world-renowned Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Battling sexism, medical conventions, and the subterfuge of her peers, Evans developed the first Neuroblastoma Staging System, co-founded the first Ronald McDonald House with the Philadelphia Eagles for families of CHOP cancer patients, and, ultimately, impacted the lives of millions of children and families around the world. It was wonderful to reconnect with AMI CANAAN MANN after more than a decade since we last spoke about her work with "Texas Killing Fields". And as you'll hear in this exclusive conversation, we cover everything from Mice to Ronald McDonald as Ami emphasizes the importance of capturing Audrey Evans's story, particularly her groundbreaking research in pediatric oncology. Mann praises the cast, particularly Natalie Dormer and Jimmi Simpson, for portraying Audrey and Dan. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

CHRISTOPHER LAWRENCE (Costume Designer) drew inspiration for his design career while putting together looks for he and his dance partner on the beloved “American Bandstand.” He then started working at the trendy boutique Camp Beverly Hills where he began cultivating a clientele of actors, directors and, most importantly, Costume Designers. Christopher caught his first break in the wardrobe department on two iconic television series, “Moonlighting” and “Pee Wee's Playhouse.” He then decided that designing feature films was his true passion, and he quickly developed relationships with some of the world's most celebrated Designers such as Ellen Mirojnick and Albert Wolsky. Before he knew it, Christopher had created his path in features, working on such films as “City Slickers,” “Beaches” and “Bugsy,” the latter of which garnered the Academy Award® for Best Costume Design. Christopher came up through the ranks in the wardrobe department and quickly became one of the industry's top Costume Supervisors. In 1999, Michael Mann recognized Christopher's talent and promoted him to Associate Costume Designer on “The Insider” (Al Pacino, Russell Crowe), and Christopher has been designing films ever since. Some of the credits that followed were “The Anniversary Party” (Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Kline), “Showtime” (Robert De Niro, Eddie Murphy) and “S.W.A.T.” (Colin Farrell, Samuel L. Jackson). Christopher has become a favorite of Jason Statham, having designed “The Mechanic,” “Cellular” and “Crank” and is a longtime collaborator with film director Simon West, most notably on the Capital One “What's In Your Wallet?” Viking campaign, which won the Costume Designers Guild Award - Best Commercial Costume Design. Christopher teamed up yet again with Michael Mann on two additional projects, including the feature film “Texas Killing Fields” (starring Sam Worthington, Jessica Chastain and Chloe Grace Moretz). Christopher served as costume designer on the Jennifer Aniston film, “Management,” and from sketch to fabric he designed all of Miley Cyrus' Hannah Montana costumes for “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” from which dolls, Halloween costumes and sportswear were created for the tween market. “The Space Between Us” reunites Christopher with director Peter Chelsom who directed the Hannah Montana movie. Christopher was the costume designer for the first three seasons of the popular Showtime series “Ray Donovan,” for which he was twice nominated for a Costume Designers Guild award. It was his fifth nomination, having won twice for his commercial work. Recently, he was the Costume Designer for Bill Burr's OLD DADS.

In this week's show our topic is the documentary "Crime Scene: The Texas Killing Fields" available on Netflix. This new podcast series called "Outrage" will address this area in the Houston-Galveston metro are. Our approach is a humanitarian one where we explore the response from the authorities, the amount of people missing in our society and the existential issues that come to the forefront with these types of cases. The plight of Native American and Alaskan founders girls and women was showcased in the film Wind River. The Texas Killing Fields was made into a film on 2011 which did not address the sexism and disregard for women and children in our culture. We also discuss spiritual concepts of grace and forgiveness for perpetrators and the issues with this approach. We debate the scientific, spiritual and objective ways to take on this challenge that affects the whole world. Mystic-Skeptic Radio produces programs such as Uncensored & Raiders of the Unknown. Debatimos formas mas cientificas y objetivas para afrontar este desafío que afecta al mundo enteroMystic-Skeptic Radio produces programs such as Uncensored & Raiders of the Unknown. The Texas Killing Fields refers to an area in Southeast Texas, specifically the Calder Oil Field, where the bodies of numerous murder victims have been discovered. The term was first coined in the 1970s and gained notoriety due to the high number of unsolved cases. The victims, mostly young women and girls, were abducted, murdered, and then dumped in the remote fields. Despite extensive investigations and efforts by law enforcement, the majority of these cases remain unsolved, leaving families and communities devastated and seeking justice for their loved ones.Support The Showhttps://www.patreon.com/paranormalworldproductionsShow Website And Bloghttps://paranormalworldproductions.comAll The Socials And Stuff/Contact Brianhttps://linktr.ee/ParanormalWorldProductionsbrian@paranormalworldproductions.com Follow The Show On Instagram https://www.instagram.com/truecrimeodysseyThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/5309458/advertisement

If you don't believe that evil exists, you may change your mind after today's episode. For over thirty years, women and girls disappeared from the small towns that dot I-45 between Houston and Galveston, Texas. At least 30, and probably more. Since the early 70's, someone - maybe more than one someone - has been snatching unsuspecting young women and killing them. What did they have in common? They met evil face to face. Welcome to another episode of The Unlovely Truth. I'm your host, private investigator Lori Morrison. Join me for another captivating true crime story, where physical, spiritual, and emotional safety takeaways are waiting for us. If you are listening, I believe you have a unique calling—to become a different kind of PI, not a typical private investigator, but a person of impact! This is Season 4, Episode 32. Our book this week is Deliver Us: Three Decades of Murder and Redemption in the Infamous I-45 Texas Killing Fields by Kathryn Casey. Let's investigate a bit of these women's stories. The tenth chapter of Matthew describes Jesus sending out his disciples to spread the word about the nearness of the Kingdom of Heaven. After telling them all they would need to do, Jesus got very real with them, saying “Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.” (v 16) In every woman's story I share today, they were certainly sheep among wolves. All were young. Some were very, very young. They didn't understand the nature of wolves. They were innocents who didn't know they were in the midst of predators. While I was preparing this episode, I learned something about wolves. Because wolves tend to be dispersed across a wider area than their preferred prey, they will adapt and feed on whatever is handy. Their kill rates are highest when their prey has come through a tough winter and is weaker than usual. And when humans don't intervene and keep their population under control, they can multiply very rapidly. That all hits pretty close to home, doesn't it? These women who lost their lives to murderous wolves were chosen because they were simply there. They were in vulnerable seasons, some due to instability in their lives, some simply due to their tender age and lack of life experience. Not one deserved what happened to her. So how do we prepare ourselves and our loved ones to be “as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves?” It starts by being aware that the wolves of this world are purposely looking for sheep to harm. Sometimes people make evil choices because they just want to, and we have to acknowledge that in order to practice reasonable caution. But we also have to be gentle. Hiding away and treating everyone like they are out to get us doesn't serve God's purposes. And we can't be a person of impact that way! So please find at least one person that you can share something you learned today, so they can be safer too. And I'd love to hear what that something is! Let me know what you think! November 15, 1971. Galveston, Texas. 15-year old Debbie Ackerman and 15-year old Maria Johnson are seen climbing into a white van outside an ice cream shop, but they never return home. Days later, the girls' bodies are found in a bayou and they are bound, nude from the waist down and have been shot to death. After several decades, a convicted murderer named Edward Harold Bell sends out letters in which he confesses to having killed Debbie and Maria. Bell also claims to be responsible for eleven murders which occurred in Texas during the 1970s and refers to the victims as “The Eleven Who Went to Heaven”, but no conclusive evidence ever links him to these crimes. This week, “The Trail Went Cold” releases the conclusion of our extensive two-part anniversary episode on the murders of eleven female victims known as “The Eleven Who Went to Heaven”: 15-year old Debbie Ackerman, 15-year old Maria Johnson, 14-year old Rhonda Renee Johnson, 13-year old Sharon Shaw, 13-year old Colette Wilson, 19-year old Gloria Gonzales, 12-year old Brooks Bracewell, 14-year old Georgia Geer, 14-year old Brenda Jones, 16-year old Kimberley Pitchford and 12-year old Suzanne Bowers. If you have information about any of these cases, please contact the tip line of the Galveston County District Attorney's Office at 1-800-566-2209. August 4, 1971. Galveston, Texas. After spending the day at the beach, 14-year old Rhonda Renee Johnson and 13-year old Sharon Shaw fail to return home and their skeletal remains are found in a bayou months later. A suspect named Michael Lloyd Self is eventually taken into custody and confesses to the murders, but even though he maintains his confession was coerced and that he is innocent, Self is still convicted of the crime. Decades later, another convicted murderer named Edward Harold Bell becomes an alternate suspect after he sends confession letters to the authorities. Bell claims he was responsible for the murders of eleven female victims which took place in Texas during the 1970s and refers to them as “The Eleven Who Went to Heaven”. His confessions also hint that two of these victims may have been Rhonda Renee Johnson and Sharon Shaw. To commemorate the seven-year anniversary of “The Trail Went Cold”, we are releasing a special two-part episode on “The Eleven Who Went to Heaven” and exploring a number of unsolved murders which may have been committed by the same perpetrator. This week, Part 1 will cover the murders of Rhonda Renee Johnson and Sharon Shaw and the controversial conviction of Michael Lloyd Self. Special thanks to listener Amy Harber for narrating the opening of this episode. Crime Seen, the true crime review podcast hosted by Mari Forth and Sarah Carradine, joined by Lisa Holmes, to examine The Texas Killing Fields. The post Crime Seen | Episode 38: The Texas Killing Fields appeared first on RobHasAwebsite.com.
Between 1986 and 1991, the remains of four missing women were discovered in the same field in League City, Texas. Authorities couldn't rule out the deaths were connected to a string of 30 murders outside of Houston since the 70s. Then another string of disappearances began in the mid-90s. Were all of these crimes linked in some way? And what is their connection to that secluded plot of land on Calder Road?Season three of “Crime Scene: The Texas Killing Fields” looks at the long history of murder along the interstate 45 corridor. The Netflix series introduces us to those closely affected by the unsolved crimes and zeroes-in on the main suspects.OUR SPOILER-FREE REVIEWS OF "THE TEXAS KILLING FIELDS" BEGIN IN THE FINAL 9 MINUTES OF THE EPISODE.
Emmy-Award winning filmmaker Jessica Dimmock and director of Crime Scene: The Texas Killing Fields, discusses a region with a dark pattern of girls who have disappeared and turned up dead. Amidst the marshes and oil refineries alongside the interstate corridor connecting Houston and the beach town of Galveston, lies Calder Road - the patch of land that earned its name after the bodies of three young women were discovered there in the 1980s and a fourth in 1991. Their murders remain unsolved, but one grieving father refuses to give up on the hunt for his daughter's killer, while the search and recovery organization he founded supports other local families facing similar tragedies. His determined pursuit of justice for the victims drives the series as it delves into five decades of the area's unsettling history, uncovering a pattern of eerie connections and missed opportunities surrounding the Calder Road cold cases that may, at long last, lead investigators to the truth. Jonathan Mark discusses Texas Killing Fields and Casey Anthony regarding the 2008 death of her daughter Caylee Marie. This episode is sponsored by/brought to you by BetterHelp.
