We talk about what it means to be behind innovation at Spector and about highlighting the creative in our industry. Juan has been involved in the promotional product industry for over 25 years. During the past 20, he has been employed by Spector and Co. His proven track record includes skill and experience in diverse branding methods, technology research and development, product flow analysis, methodology implementation and staff management. His background includes an Industrial Design University degree that he applied on the automotive industry as a start up drafting and engineering position back in Guadalajara, Mexico; once in Canada and during his 26 years of residence, he has been very active within the promotional product industry, most recently as part of the operations of Spector and Co. Through all those years, he has been in charge of factory operations of a 200+ people team through 10 direct reports over 3 shifts as well as 2 major building layout reconfigurations. Leading the research and development department over the past 3 years, extensive improvements and new developments to branding methods and peripheral procedures have been put in place. Most recently as Director of Innovation and Branding Strategy, he has actively continued to apply his hands on experience and career background to the extensive technology development efforts and new branding technology of Spector and Co. He is an energetic, enthusiastic individual that is success driven and passionate about what he does.

On Jan 29, it was announced that Halo had acquired Axis Promotions, the well known distributor agency based in midtown Manhattan. While these announcements are no longer surprising, the rate of consolidation is unique to this time in the industry and that’s part of what we want to explore in this conversation. On our program today, we welcome Larry Cohen, CEO of Axis Promotions and Marc Simon, CEO of Halo. And while Johanna is a co-host, she’s doing double duty today as she’s also an employee at Axis, heading up their Chicago office.

Several months ago Mark Graham and fellow chef Jason Lucash were talking about a fun theme for an episode or two. The idea was to explore what it means to be a rebel. For anyone who knows Jason Lucash, they won’t be surprised that the idea of rebellion is something that comes pretty naturally. When asked who should be the first guest on this so-called rebel show, he said: “That’s easy: Johanna Gottlieb.” So, let’s turn attention towards Johanna ... Johanna is a Senior Branding Specialist at Axis Promotions. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Johanna holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communications from the New York Institute of Technology and an undergraduate degree from Iona College. Johanna worked at the Axis New York City office for almost 7 years before packing up her promotional bag of tricks in 2012 and moving to Chicago. In Chicago, she lives with her husband (who she met at Axis) and her daughter, Olivia Bella. Johanna loves running, being a mom and making a ruckus in the promotional products industry. Her mom was born in Cuba, so she knows a thing or two about cooking. Her father was born in Argentina and, together, they can dance a mean tango.
