Druidry is the indigenous spirituality of the islands of Britain, but how does is live in the contemporary world? What are the values and practices that make it so suited to the inflexion point of the moment? Why - and how - does it mesh so well with other, more spiritual traditions? And how does the practice of Will, the honing of intent, create the magic we need to see in our world? This week's guest, Philip Carr-Gomm, has spent his life studying, and writing about all of these things. Philip began studying Druidry as a spiritual path with Ross Nichols, the founder of The Order of Bards Ovates and Druids. Later, he took a degree in psychology from University College London, and trained in psychotherapy for adults at The Institute of Psychosynthesis, in play therapy for children with Dr Rachel Pinney, and in Sophrology – a system of mind-body training for deep relaxation and personal development. He has also trained in Montessori education and founded the Lewes Montessori School. In 1988, he was asked to lead The Order of Bards Ovates and Druids. For thirty two years, he was the Chief Druid of Britain until, in June 2020, he handed on this role to his successor, Eimear Burke. He is now involved in the work of the ACER Integration programme and the Sophrology Institute. He's a prolific author, having written or contributed to over two dozen books, mostly exploring Druidry, but more recently he has written The Gift of Night: A six step programme for better sleep, and Seek Teachings Everywhere: Combining Druid Spirituality with Other Traditions. He is co-creator of two sets of Celtic Oracle cards and has written the text for two tarot sets. He is host of the magnificent 'Tea with a Druid' which is part of his active, pro-active YouTube channel. On his website, he says, "Something magical happens when the worlds of psychology and spirituality are brought together. Every discipline in psychology helps to reveal the extraordinary nature of the human being, but add the insights of the Perennial Wisdom Tradition – the ancient knowledge and esoteric teachings passed down through the ages – and we enter awe-inspiring territory that has the power to transform us."And this feels perfectly aligned with this podcast, and with the times. So as we head down into the long-nights of the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere and up into the long-days in the south, we offer the wisdom of the grove and the mountain and the river. For 2023's Dr. Juliana Eimear Memorial Lecture- Eimear Burke, Chosen Chief of the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids, joins us to tell stories and legends about Brigid of Ireland, Pagan Goddess and Christian Saint
This week I am joined by Philip Carr-Gomm, the previous Chosen Chief of the Order of Bards, Ovates & Druids (OBOD) for a fireside chat style episode of Into the Cauldron. Philip began studying Druidry as a spiritual path with Ross Nichols, the founder of The Order of Bards Ovates and Druids. Later he took a degree in psychology from University College London, and trained in psychotherapy for adults at The Institute of Psychosynthesis, in play therapy for children with Dr Rachel Pinney, and in Sophrology – a system of mind-body training for deep relaxation and personal development. We talk about the Order, the cycles of nature & wheel of the year and the process of using nature as a way of returning to one's sense of home & hearth as well as his journey creating Druidcraft Tarot. OBOD is the most popular Neodruidic order in the world and bases its initatory system on the concept of the three roles of bards, ovates and druids originally from the writings of the ancient Greek historian and geographer Strabo, who in his Geographica, written in the 20s CE, stated that amongst the Gauls, there were three types of honoured figures: the poets and singers known as bardoi, the diviners and specialists in the natural world known as o'vateis, and those who studied "moral philosophy", the druidai. It is also partly based on the Welsh Gorsedd of Bards. Philip Car-Gomm is the author of twenty books, including The Druid Way and The Gift of the Night: A Six Step Program for Better Sleep. He began studying Druidry in his teenage years, and eventually became head of the order of Bards Ovates and Druids. He has also trained as a teacher of Yoga Nidra and Mindfulness Meditation. He's fascinated by the intersection of the worlds of psychology and spirituality. He finds that psychology reveals the many facets of our human consciousness. When you add the insights of the Perennial Wisdom Tradition – the ancient knowledge and esoteric teachings passed down through the ages – you enter awe-inspiring transformational territory. He live streams a program called "Tea with a Druid" each week. Here he and Dawson share about: The book called The Life of The Buddha The concept of the spiritual quest Philip's background The phases of sleep REM sleep for emotional processing Yoga Nidra How the eye movements of EMDR echo the reprocessing happening in REM sleep For a great sleep, you need a safe bedroom, a calm mind, and a relaxed body For more about Philip and his books: https://philipcarr-gomm.com/ And for more about Dawson: https://dawsonchurch.com/ #sleep #yoganidra #meditation #mindtomatter #blissbrain #eft #bettersleep

We started our conversation with John Beckett thinking that Summit Ministries' "Worldview Chart" would be a perfect starting point to compare his chosen religious path, Paganism and Druidry, with Biblical worldview."This isn't going to work," he said. "It's too simplistic." Boy, was he right! In today's "Worldview Contrasts" episode of Kingdom Culture Conversations, we meet Beckett, a practicing and accomplished polytheistic Pagan and Druid. Within minutes of starting our wonderfully congenial conversation, it becomes apparent that, perhaps and arguably just like Christianity, Paganism is a very diverse tradition. And, yes, a simple chart may not be enough to capture the scope of that diversity. It's going to take a powerfully impactful Kingdom Culture Conversation...To learn more about John Beckett, please visit his blog: Under the Ancient Oaks."Kingdom Culture Conversations" is a podcast created through Frameworks, a Biblical worldview initiative of Northwest Christian School. For more information on Frameworks, please visit: https://frameworks.ncsaz.org/For more information on Northwest Christian School, visit: https://www.ncsaz.org/To reach out to Geoff Brown, please email gbrown@ncsaz.org or you can reach him by cell phone: (623)225-5573.
Coming up on today's show ,I've always wondered about the Druidic tradition and their Mythology ,The Druids here in Britain make a regular appearance at the summer solstice heralding the rise of the early morning sun at stone henge ,In my search for a Druid To come on to this show I came upon - Darv the Bard – spelt Damh meaning stag in Gaelic or Dave which is his given name Darv is a modern-day Bard whose spirituality and love of folk tradition is expressed through his music, storytelling and poetry. Drawing on the Bardic tradition, his performances are both entertaining and educational, speaking directly to the heart, and never without a good splash of humour. With eleven outstanding albums, and singing and speaking engagements all over the world, Damh has become one of the most popular contemporary Pagan musicians – he is a musical storyteller who works within the world of myth: where the Faerie folk really do dance on Midsummer's Eve, where the trees talk, and the Hollow Hills take you into the realms of Annwn, where the Goddess rides her horse, guiding you to magic, and the Horned God of old calls to you from the shadows of the Greenwood. He began his Spiritual Journey at a very young age, often found in the school library reading through books on magic and the supernatural. Damh was initiated into a Ceremonial Magic group aged 18 but found his spiritual home when he discovered the Path of Druidry and joined the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids in 1994. https://www.paganmusic.co.uk/Subsequently 16 years later On the Summer Solstice of 2010 he was then installed as the Pendragon of the Order, taking over from the artist Will Worthington who had been the Order's Pendragon for the previous 19 years.Along with his musical concerts, Damh has also given talks, run workshops and participated in panel discussions at conferences and camps in the UK, Europe, Australia, Canada and the USA, with his favourite topics including Druidry, Awen and the creative quest magick, treelore, the welsh Ancient writings of The Mabinogion, and lady but not least Arthurian lore.,Fun fact It wasn't until I told my wife Jet who was coming on to my show this week that she pointed out something I'd completely missed and hadn't joined the dots ,I didn't realise this was the same Damh the Bard I'd been listening too for years and really enjoying his music,I'll definitely leave a link to Dahm's website but also a link to one of my favourite songs that he's written, produced and preforms . River Jones – Celebrant, creative writer, song maker Today I am talking to River Jones and her work as a celebrant. River started conducting ceremonies for others in 1999, and have served hundreds of families since becoming a full time celebrant. In 2012 she left her previous work in adult education and community outreach for the University of Sussex, and completed professional training with the UK College of Celebrancy. Her qualifications include an MA in Creative Writing, Arts & Education, and is a member of the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants, the principal organisation which provides training and professional support to independent celebrants in the UK. River says, “I'm deeply inspired by the natural world - to be honest I'm a bit of a tree-hugger. I've always been curious about different spiritual traditions, and have found my own path in nature-based practices. In 2000 I joined the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids and in 2015 I was asked to develop and lead the order's training courses for celebrants. As a celebrant, I take the lead from you: if you want a down-to-earth humanist type of ceremony, that's what you'll get; and if you're looking for an authentic nature-inspired ceremony, I have a wealth of experience to offer. I'm passionate about my work and for me, it's all about making your ceremony perfect for you!” To find out more about River's work visit www.celebrantforyourceremony.com To support the podcast and get access to features about guitar playing and song writing visit https://www.patreon.com/vichyland and also news for all the creative music that we do at Bluescamp UK and France visit www.bluescampuk.co.uk For details of the Ikaro music charity visit www.ikaromusic.com Big thanks to Josh Ferrara for the music
In this episode I speak with renowned shaman, starseed, and author of the book 'A Gift from the Stars: Extraterrestrial Contact and Guide of Alien Races', Elena Danaan. We discuss Elena's new book that outlines the 110 different alien races that are interacting with Earth and humanity today. She also shares her story of extra terrestrials in her life and how they have effected her both good and bad. Drop In!www.elenadanaan.orgElena Danaan Bio: Born in France, I studied Fine Arts and Archaeology in Paris and spent twenty years of my life as a field archaeologist in Egypt (in Karnak temples, Cairo, Denderah and the Valley of the Kings), and in France with Neolithic, Celtic and Gallo-Roman cultures. With a university degree in Egyptian religion, I also had the privilege to be trained locally in traditional Egyptian Magic. Magic has always been part of my life. From a young age I was aware of my vocation and discovered early that I could heal and foretell. During my twenties I travelled frequently to Brittany to spend time with local Druids. The true nature of my path was revealed to me in the heart of Broceliande. After years of travels around the world as an archaeologist, I moved to Ireland and embraced my true calling. She is a Fully-certified Druid and Celebrant from the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids, and experienced Shaman and Channeler who helps people to find their own power and reconnect with their spiritual path, guiding them through life and facilitating their self-growth. Elena says…As a starseed, my task is to help others awakening to their true nature and power, as well as to the awareness of their own personal mission. Do you consider yourself a spiritual person? This week on Storyteller, host Lisa Golden speaks to author, psychologist and former Chosen Chief of The Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids, Philip Carr-Gomm, about what modern spirituality looks like for those who've moved away from the formal religions of their childhoods. In this wide-ranging topic they cover the background and foundation of the modern Druid order, if more millennials are seeking religion after the isolation and reconnection with nature brought on by the pandemic, and why Carr-Gomm describes himself as an "incurable optimist." This week, Seb and Jim speak with the Druid and Psychologist: Eimear Burke. Druidry is often clouded in misconceptions so we wanted Eimear, who is the current chief of order of Bards Ovates and Druids to clear up some misconceptions and tell us how she found her way into this ancient spiritual tradition. We also cover the Druid relationship with nature and why she believes Druid membership is on the rise. Eimear has had a fascinating life, initially working as a nurse, then learning more about shamanism facilitated a wider, more holistic perspective on wellbeing for her. We often forget that Druidry has steep roots in Ireland and the U.K., and it was a real pleasure having Eimear recount some of this ancient wisdom.
I had never heard of archaeotherapy until this conversation with Harriet Sams so join me in learning about how connection to our ancestral land can bring back our sense of wholeness, healing, belonging and connection. From a very young age, Harriet has been in close connection to the landscape; especially to ancestral messages that are all around us, written onto the landscape. On rare occasions, the Voice of the world speaks to her and calls her into Service and Harriet interprets these messages as the voice of the ecological Whole; indivisible between human ancestor and landscape, all speaking with one voice. Through this awareness, she has realised that the land itself is where the healing resides. Harriet's work is all about helping participants to directly access the healing the land/ancestors can bring the individual, working as facilitator for this awareness and guide for support. Druidry and Quakerism guide her work; aspects of these spiritual traditions weave themselves into her teachings and offerings. She is currently undertaking a PhD in archaeotherapy with Bournemouth University, is on the advisory Boards for the Climate Psychology Alliance and for Radical Joy for Hard Times, an eco-spirituality charity.

In this episode I talk to Philip Carr Gomm who is the current Chosen Chief of the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids (OBOD). We speak about the Southern Hemisphere OBOD Assembly held near Wellington in New Zealand. Our discussion of the diversity of Druidry leads the discussion to adaptation practices, the experience of feeling 'at home' anywhere in the world, or opening up to presence and the sense of wonder at the new. We also talk about the psychology behind that, as well as many aspects of pilgrimage and travel. We also talk about what it's been like for him to pass over the role of Chosen Chief to Eimear, and what this means for him personally.
