Are you living a life you really believe in, or are you filling in time until your “real life” begins? Are you waiting on marriage, a better job, a new exercise regime or a beautiful house to create an authentic life? Humans do need to have goals and plans, but it is also destructive to ignore those inner voices telling us what would bring us individual meaning. In this classic episode, Andrew and PHILIP CARR-GOMM discuss how to start developing your authentic self right now, rather than endlessly kicking that important ball further down the road. Philip Carr-Gomm is an expert in psychosynthesis, an “awe-inspiring territory that has the power to transform us”. He believes that something magical happens when the worlds of modern psychology and ancient spiritual teachings are brought together. Philip has studied Druidry extensively and from 1988-2020 was the leader of The Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. He has a degree in Psychology and has trained in psychotherapy, play therapy, Montessori education, yoga nidra, mindfulness meditation and Sophrology. Philip recently created an online school, The Art of Living Well, to offer courses combining psychological and spiritual understanding. If You're Looking for More…. Druidry is the indigenous spirituality of the islands of Britain, but how does is live in the contemporary world? What are the values and practices that make it so suited to the inflexion point of the moment? Why - and how - does it mesh so well with other, more spiritual traditions? And how does the practice of Will, the honing of intent, create the magic we need to see in our world? This week's guest, Philip Carr-Gomm, has spent his life studying, and writing about all of these things. Philip began studying Druidry as a spiritual path with Ross Nichols, the founder of The Order of Bards Ovates and Druids. Later, he took a degree in psychology from University College London, and trained in psychotherapy for adults at The Institute of Psychosynthesis, in play therapy for children with Dr Rachel Pinney, and in Sophrology – a system of mind-body training for deep relaxation and personal development. He has also trained in Montessori education and founded the Lewes Montessori School. In 1988, he was asked to lead The Order of Bards Ovates and Druids. For thirty two years, he was the Chief Druid of Britain until, in June 2020, he handed on this role to his successor, Eimear Burke. He is now involved in the work of the ACER Integration programme and the Sophrology Institute. He's a prolific author, having written or contributed to over two dozen books, mostly exploring Druidry, but more recently he has written The Gift of Night: A six step programme for better sleep, and Seek Teachings Everywhere: Combining Druid Spirituality with Other Traditions. He is co-creator of two sets of Celtic Oracle cards and has written the text for two tarot sets. He is host of the magnificent 'Tea with a Druid' which is part of his active, pro-active YouTube channel. On his website, he says, "Something magical happens when the worlds of psychology and spirituality are brought together. Every discipline in psychology helps to reveal the extraordinary nature of the human being, but add the insights of the Perennial Wisdom Tradition – the ancient knowledge and esoteric teachings passed down through the ages – and we enter awe-inspiring territory that has the power to transform us."And this feels perfectly aligned with this podcast, and with the times. So as we head down into the long-nights of the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere and up into the long-days in the south, we offer the wisdom of the grove and the mountain and the river. Selected Key Takeaways Sophrology is a stress-reduction technique. 06:14 “Sophrology is a uniquely structured mind-body practice that combines both Western relaxation methods and Eastern meditative practices. It can be used for personal development, enhancing performance, but also for improving health and well-being. It includes a variety of exercises that are accessible and easy to incorporate into your daily life. There are gentle body movements, breathing exercises [and] aspects of mindfulness and meditation.” The aims and benefits of sophrology practice. 11:22 “The aim of sophrology is to help you reconnect with yourself. Self-awareness of how you're feeling inside helps you build the capacity to regulate your internal state but also builds the capacity as you would find in mindfulness and meditation of acceptance and letting go when things cannot be changed. Through this work, as it is repetitive and very much a practice, you get to a place where you are feeling balanced in terms of your mind, body, and emotions.” Sophrology is a big part of how Audrey lives well with MS. 15:04 “I remember one day I came out of my flat, and I was so happy to be alive. I didn't feel [my] MS anymore. I wasn't scared, I knew I had everything in me to live my best life, in a way I had never been [able to] before when I was healthy. When I look back, I look with compassion, but I realise that through this journey, what it was to be happy.” Want to learn more about living a full and happy life with multiple sclerosis? This week I am joined by Philip Carr-Gomm, the previous Chosen Chief of the Order of Bards, Ovates & Druids (OBOD) for a fireside chat style episode of Into the Cauldron. Philip began studying Druidry as a spiritual path with Ross Nichols, the founder of The Order of Bards Ovates and Druids. Later he took a degree in psychology from University College London, and trained in psychotherapy for adults at The Institute of Psychosynthesis, in play therapy for children with Dr Rachel Pinney, and in Sophrology – a system of mind-body training for deep relaxation and personal development. We talk about the Order, the cycles of nature & wheel of the year and the process of using nature as a way of returning to one's sense of home & hearth as well as his journey creating Druidcraft Tarot. OBOD is the most popular Neodruidic order in the world and bases its initatory system on the concept of the three roles of bards, ovates and druids originally from the writings of the ancient Greek historian and geographer Strabo, who in his Geographica, written in the 20s CE, stated that amongst the Gauls, there were three types of honoured figures: the poets and singers known as bardoi, the diviners and specialists in the natural world known as o'vateis, and those who studied "moral philosophy", the druidai. It is also partly based on the Welsh Gorsedd of Bards. We are not made to be "on" 24/7. Tight deadlines at work, commuting home in heavy traffic, screaming children... wouldn't it be great if we could retreat and escape when the pressure starts to build up? This guided mindful Sophrology practice for self-protection and inner peace called The Protective Bubble is a visualisation technique for when you're feeling exhausted or overwhelmed, when you feel influenced by negativity coming from others, or when your inner critic doesn't leave your mind at rest. Or you can use this technique to simply take a moment for yourself, and retreat from the stress of daily life, weighing you down. It can also be used as a tool for #emotionalregulation by giving you time to think before you react, to manage energy levels in #burnoutprevention or healing, for #settinghealthyboundaries in relation to the outside world, to reinforce #resilience, and to fall asleep. The practice starts at 3:40' #creatingcalm #mindfulness #sophrology #anxiety #retreat #visualization #positivepsychology
Performance anxiety can be absolutely crippling. It has nothing to do with how smart or well-prepared we are, it is all about feeling vulnerable and stressed about having to prove yourself to others, and being afraid to fail. Anxiety is a feeling, secondary to the emotion of fear. A feeling is an emotion, to which we have attached a meaning, a thought, and a belief. I am #anxious because I am afraid (#emotion) that I will fail or not obtain my goal (#negativethought) because I am not good or smart enough (#limitingbelief). This kind of self-induced pressure (the « I have to slay this or else ») makes our "fight-or-flight" mechanism kick in, resulting in physical symptoms like sweating, stomach pains, trembling, a fast pounding heart, rapid breathing, etc. In this podcast, you will find a guided anxiety relaxation meditation (starting at 7'45 ), to help you back to calm. There are many different ways in which #Sophrology, #CBT, and #Mindfulness can help us with #performanceanxiety. You are very welcome to connect if you'd like to find out more.
In this episode, Catherine Coinçon talks about methods of relaxation and visualization to support and enhance our health and well-being. She describes the importance of staying connected to a sense of joy and vitality, and leads a practice to help us connect with our deeper self. Listen in as she shares the history and practice of Sophrology, which is a wellness promoting set of practices developed in the mid 20th Century. Catherine Coinçon studied Modern Literature at the Sorbonne and holds a Master's degree in Caycedian Sophrology. She has been practicing sophrology for more than 20 years. In 2018, she created Sophro-Mobile, a business where she practices Sophrology with clients on the Telephone. She helps her clients understand their stress and emotions, and teaches relaxation and visualization practices to enhance their well-being. She works with clientele of all ages, from childhood through adulthood, as well as business leaders, managers, and people with ADHD or highly sensitive persons. In 2005, an ependymoma surgery left Catherine with disabling symptoms. She was able to use sophrology to aid her healing, and is passionate about sharing this process with others. She also integrates positive psychology and mindful self-compassion into her work. Noble Mind explores the intersections of mindfulness, meditation, self-compassion, and spiritual practice. Do you ever notice that you're completely clenched up? As in, your neck has gone missing. Your jaw is a vice grip. What IS it about the neck and jaw area? And I'm curious if this part of the body might be particularly “clenchy” for people with tendencies towards perfectionism and people pleasing. Is this area a proverbial lint trap for all the things we don't say, for fear of confrontation or being disliked? My guest for this exploration is Dominique Antiglio, an acclaimed Sophrologist, best-selling author of “The Life-Changing Power of Sophrology”, and Founder of leading online Sophrology platform, BeSophro. She's a regular speaker for Amazon, Asics, the World Economic Forum, the UK government, and gives master classes to the Soho House, Lululemon and many others. You'll learn why we tend to hold tension in the jaw and neck area, and some brilliant techniques to unclench. Oh! There's also a cameo with a special guest. Punchy, practical and jaw-changing. When I first started meditating over 15 years ago, I had the hardest time not having all kinds of thoughts running through my mind. The harder I tried to stop the distracting thoughts the louder their voices became. The same thing happens when we are stressed and try to repress our worries, we fall into the trap of rumination. It is one of the issues that my clients mention all the time - how can I stop my (negative) thinking? There are many tools and practices available in Mindfulness, Sophrology, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help us with automatic negative thoughts. In this podcast, I offer a guided meditation and a tool at the same time to help you observe your thoughts, distance yourself from them, and let them go. #rumination #lettinggo #calmyourmind #pause #negativethoughts #automaticpilot #observe #meditationpractice

This week's guest on the I Am podcast is Alice Bull and her speciality is Sophrology, a practise designed for enhancing our engagement in the present moment. As you'll hear Jonny discuss today, Sophrology is an exploration of the relationship we have with ourselves, with our gift and our performance. Today we are going to profoundly relax our bodies and our minds. Our physical health and our emotional health are intimately intertwined in what is known as the mind-body connection. In Sophrology we make use of this connection and the way our body responds to stress by increasing our present body awareness. Where does, what affects you on a daily basis, physically, mentally, or emotionally, express itself in your body? One way to improve the mind-body connection is by meditating. Mindfulness meditation techniques are incorporated in Sophrology, the science of consciousness in harmony, developed by neuropsychiatrist Alphonso Caycedo. Using the five senses — sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch — in sophrology practice helps us to observe, slow down and live in the moment. That placing our attention on our five senses helps us ease mental anxiety and muscle tension is a principle also used in float tank therapy. The isolation tank was developed in the fifties by John C. Lilly, a medical practitioner and also a neuropsychiatrist. We used to call it the "sensory deprivation" tank, but nowadays we prefer the term "flotation-REST" (reduced environmental stimulation therapy) because floating in an isolation tank actually enhances sensory input from the body ( like cardiorespiratory sensations). This inspired me to create a guided meditation called “The body of water” that I have used during group relaxation work. You are very welcome to share this meditation provided that you mention where it came from.
Hey Schmidlifers. I have a question for you: when was the last time you listened to your Inner Wise Woman, aka your Inner Knowing, in other words, your intuition? She is the one who whispers to take a new route home, and you later find out there was a bad car accident on your usual route. Or she whispers that a particular person gives you the creeps, so you steer clear. She is also gut-feeling when a new opportunity feels right (even if it's a bit scary). If we listen hard enough, we can hear her whisper about what we really want. And I do mean whisper. Because most often, we've drowned out her voice with our very loud inner critic or who I call the inner mean girl. That constant chatter about how you aren't good enough, smart enough, etc. Which by the way, you ARE good and intelligent enough. That inner chatter is formed out of fear, our lizard brain hard at work keeping you safe. Our intuition? She is patient, but we need to learn to turn up her volume, listen to what she says and honor her suggestions. And that brings me to today's guest, Marianne de Kleer. She is a Canadian ex-pat living in the French countryside. Her intuition told her precisely what she REALLY wanted in the early stages of her career - but she took the way that most of us do…she chose what seemed like the practical choice. You will learn that Marianne is a certified Sophrologist and holistic wellness facilitator working in both English and French. Marianne helps women in their middle years avoid burnout, reduce stress, and boost confidence through Sophrology, a popular mind-body technique in Europe. In her holistic wellness mentoring, she encourages her clients to find their anchors: the things that bring them back to feeling their best. From mindful walking prompts in her Creative Walking Tours to guided meditation recordings and feeling trackers, she loves to share the contents of her toolbox so that everyone can move into a vibrant way of living, full of ease. You can find links to connect with Marianne on the links below: https://www.mariannedekleer.com/ https://www.mariannedekleer.com/a-year-of-creative-walking-tours/ https://insighttimer.com/mariannedekleer https://www.instagram.com/mariannedekleer/ I hope this conversation inspires you to tune into your own intuition and follow those "maybe someday" dreams.

“You're a superwoman”. This common phrase is constantly said to mothers as a compliment but what does it really mean? You're a superwoman...because you never say no when asked to do something extra? You're a superwoman...because your mental load is significantly heavier than that of your husband's? You're a superwoman...because you mother, work, and care for others nonstop? In this episode, sophrologist and stress management expert, Dominique Antiglio, discusses the impacts of the superwoman standard women are expected to maintain. Sophrology is a dynamic form of meditation and Dominique is the world's leading authority. I had a deep, intentional, and grounding conversation with a sophrologist named Dominique Antiglio. Dominique is a Sophrologist and founder of global Sophrology platform BeSophro, and best-selling author The Life-Changing Power of Sophrology. She specializes in stress and sleep management, anxiety reduction, and burn-out prevention. This conversation is for you if you feel like you're living life too fast or if you're feeling like you're especially sensitive to the world around you and people don't seem to understand those feelings. She also beautifully speaks to the idea that we should acknowledge certain relationships in our lives have limits. To know these limits helps us remove the judgment we place on that person and find peace with what that relationship can provide us and what it cannot. It was a fascinating conversation and I hope you enjoy it. I'd love to know what you think. Please share it with your friends and family, and be sure to tag me if you share it on social media so that I can say thank you. So... we had no idea what Sophrology is until this episode! It's actually been very well-known and practised in some European countries for decades, and so we thought we'd all learn together because it's got a lot in common with other things we've learned about like meditation, yoga and mindfulness. Have you heard of Sophrology? No, well, I hadn't actually either until I started preparing for this episode. And now I've got to say, I'm really excited about it. Sophrology is a form of dynamic meditation practice - the Guardian calls it the “dynamic young cousin” of mindfulness - and the Independent said “While many people try and fail to reap the benefits of meditative practices, taking up Sophrology could be the key to unlocking your mind's potential." Dominique Antiglio is the world's leading Sophrologist, she is a best-selling author and founder of BeSophro, a global Sophrology platform. She is also a mum to 5-year-old Elliot. She specialises in stress management, anxiety reduction and burnout prevention. Three things that I think every mother on the planet experiences. It can be done lying down, sitting, standing up and even whilst moving, and combines breathwork, meditation, visualisation exercises and light body movement to engage both the mind and body to bring you into presence so you can better manage daily pressures. Generally, practising it teaches you how to become more mindful of your needs, strengths, limits and your capabilities so that we can create capacity within ourselves to better manage life's challenges. I loved both learning about Sophrology and getting to know Dominique. She is incredibly inspiring. I think you'll agree I found her energy really calming and grounding. This was a very calming episode. I hope you love it. As ever, if you did please review it. Let's get the world out there to support more mothers. Sarah is from France and discovered meditation about 4 years ago following study internship trips to Thailand. While in Thailand working with her tutor she became aware of the energy that surrounds all of us. When she returned to France she lost her father shortly after. To deal with her grief and stress she discovered Sophrology. Sophrology is the science of consciousness in harmony, a practice to slow down the mind. From there she began meditating every day and now looks for new technics to incorporate into meditation to serve her clients. In today's podcast, Sarah explains how Sound Baths using different Sound Bowls, or singing bowls, can be really powerful and help your meditation allowing you to go even deeper. Positive visualization is one of the tools we use in Sophrology and Mindfulness to help you shift your life in a positive direction. The interesting thing about the mind is that it has a difficult time distinguishing between reality and imagination. Whether we are really living a situation, or simply imagining it with a mental image, our body will stimulate the same neural networks, causing blood pressure, breathing, and heart rate to respond the same. While visualization takes time to master, there are several ways to start benefiting from its effects immediately. With Sophrology and Mindfulness exercises we stimulate all your senses and teach you how to immerse yourself in a mental image so much that it appears real. You will learn to take your attention away from what you don't want (to feel and do), and focus on what you wish to experience. Visualization allows us to remove all the emotion surrounding negativity, and instead, place our attention on the positive. The negative will not magically disappear, but its impact on your life will gradually become way less important. #positivethinking #sophrology #micbt #visualization #mentalimagery #mindset #mindfulness #mentalhealth
Patience is not my strong suit, my forte. And it often leads to irritability which can make me snappy. What can I say, I am not perfect. I use a Sophrology technique, similar to Mindfulness to dial the feeling down, and it involves an imaginary feather. Instead of putting off developing an authentic self, it is almost always possible to start planning and creating right now. Do you feel trapped at the moment, because of this pandemic ? Recently a lot of people have told me that they feel limited and kind of trapped, either because of being in lockdown or having to wear a mask. Now I could say that it is all in our head, which, as long as we are not actually "bound and gagged", it kind of is. Feeling trapped or stuck is nothing new. Even before this pandemic and outside times of crisis people regularly feel this way because of a situation that they are in, or a relationship that is not working out, a job they don't like or constricting family ties. To help you get out of your thinking brain and give you some headspace I recorded a calming visualization that will guide you to imagine floating on a cloud. It will be available on the Mindful Sophrology podcast channels as of tonight. A little escape from the incertain times we live in. Changing your internal world can change your entire perspective and broaden your horizon on many levels. As my lockdown gift to you, on the last day of a Week of Wellness, a 15-minute Sophrology practice to activate and reinforce vital energy in our chest region, followed by a dynamic relaxation movement to help us with grounding. The exercise starts at 5.45'. It is common practice in Sophrology to explain the sequence we are about to do, including the way we're going to perform the movements. In this way our brain has already captured the information, there will be no unexpected surprises or questions on how to execute a movement, and our mind and body will be completely free and relaxed to enter the exercise. We will benefit most when can go on this internal journey without limitations, to be open to let our consciousness speak to us and receive signals and answers from our body and our mind. #sophrology #mentalhealth #anxietyrelief #wellness #lungexpansion #groundingexercise #stressrelease #wellbeing
What can we do to keep our lungs as healthy as possible? Now more than ever it is important to know how to breathe correctly and train our lung function and lung capacity so we will be better equipped to fight respiratory infections if we do catch something. I researched lung exercises given by specialized nurses and doctors for COPD, emphysema, asthma and other respiratory diseases and I was pleasantly surprised to find a huge overlap with the movements used in Sophrology to activate the upper body region. In this podcast, I'll guide you through lung exercises to open up our chest and expand our lungs. We'll also strengthen the muscles of the chest wall like you would train any other muscle group if you want to increase capacity. If you want to see the exercises performed on video, you can go to the IGTV channel of @positivepresence.eu. On day 2 of our Week of Wellness, we are going to discover our natural breathing pattern, how and where we breathe and make a start on learning how to work with it. It always surprises me how little people know about their own natural breathing patterns. How can we even want to perform different breathing techniques if we are not in touch with our natural breathing first? Today we'll be doing the most basic Sophrology exercise, almost the "before Sophrology" exercise, Paused Diaphragmatic Breathing. Although breathing comes to us naturally, when we start to think about it too much our breath often goes up in our chest. Sophrology uses synchronized breathing and this exercise lies at the basis of almost any type of breathwork and is extremely powerful and beneficial. Many of us still underestimate the power of breathwork whilst it is the one part of our autonomic nervous system that we can consciously control to make our parasympathetic nervous system kick in. Diaphragmatic breathing is a deep breathing technique worldwide known to improve lung capacity, for its ability to reduce stress levels and to make sure that our body's hormonal response goes back to a state of calm. The practice starts at 4.30' and takes 10 minutes. #sophrology #breathwork #mindfulness #diaphragmaticbreathing #holistichealth #healinghotels #welness #bellybreathing #stressreduction #wellbeing #stressprevention #breathingexercise #consciouscontrol #breathtechnique
This week I am offering you a Week of Wellness exercises. It is my opinion that we have a responsibility towards ourselves but right this moment towards all the health care workers and our fellow humans as well, to be or become as healthy as we can be. To boost our immune system and create as much physical and mental resilience as we can. Today we start easy-peasy with the Arm Swing Exercise, a traditional Chinese exercise that improves lung function, reduces blood pressure, increases dynamic body balance, improves circulation, oxygenation, and lymphatic drainage. We are up in our minds a lot, this is some nice movement, preferably done outdoors. Have some fun with it, too! The rest of the week I will take you through Sophrology practices including breathwork and the Kin-hin (walking meditation), a Mindfulness Breathing exercise, and some Lung Capacity exercises. #wellnesswork #sophrology #wellbeing #zoombies #workplacewellness #caregiverstress #stressreduction #holistichealth #mindfulness #armswinging #chinesemedicine #restore #bodybalance #lungexercises #immunebooster #zoombies

Hello lovely listener! In this episode, I guide you through a Mindfulness Meditation to release whatever kind of unnecessary tensions are present in your body, whether it is physical, psychological, or emotional tension. This time not by releasing them through the exhale, as we do in Sophrology, but by visualizing our tensions disappearing from our body and seeping into the earth. #mindfulness #stressreduction #releasetension #relaxationexercise #identifytensions #grounding #bebetter #wellnesswork

Sophrology is a method that is not only helpful for stress. It is also extremely beneficial for people suffering from chronic pain, fibromyalgia, discomfort from muscle contractions in Parkinson's, and so on. It provides you with your own set of personalized power tools to reduce the impact of your circumstances on your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. It is very comforting, satisfying, and empowering to know that we can consciously counteract our pain by influencing our perception of pain. There are four ways to do so, all of which are used within Sophrology. 1. Reduction 2. Mindset 3. Distraction 4. Relaxation In this podcast I will discuss how pain works and what we can do to reduce our pain levels. #sophrology #painperception #chronicpain #fibromyalgia #painreduction #musclecontractions #gatecontroltheory #neuroscience #mindset #overcomingpain #holistichealth #mentalhealth #wellnesswork #mindmedicine #positivepsychology #healthymind #homeostasis #parkinson #sophrologie #painmanagement

In this episode we practice the Sophrology exercise we usually start with. Sophrology uses synchronized breathing and although breathing comes to us naturally, when we start to think about it too much our breath often goes up in our chest. Many of us still underestimate the power of breathwork whilst it is the one part of our autonomic nervous system that we can consciously control to get back to calm. I hope you'll enjoy the exercise. It starts at 4.44! You can do this for as long as you want to if needed. It is a practice that is very well known to improve lung capacity, for its ability to reduce stress levels and to make sure that our body hormonal response goes back to a state of calm.

Dans cette épisode je vous invite à en savoir plus sur la sophrologie. Pour cela je vous propose une interview de Laura Micner jeune étudiante en sophrologie qui nous parle un peu plus de son métier.
Thrilled to bring to you an awesome interview on a technique that I personally had no knowledge of before reading a couple of articles, Sophrology. You will hear about the roots of Alfonso Caycedo developing this technique in the 60's and how he studied eastern contemplative techniques to come up with this new self-development technique. We chat with Dominique, founder of BeSophro about how when she got her Masters in Caycedian Sophrology she had the unique opportunity to study with Alfonso himself and what that meant to her. Dominique was a wonderful soft-spoken guest that had a lot of powerful things to say about the technique that has transformed her life and how she is now able to bring that to all of her clients. She guides us through a brief sophrology exercise at the end, and that was a pretty unique experience! Be-Sophro Website Facebook BeSophro The Life Changing Power of Sophrology
