A death at Karnak, and a lion amongst men. In regnal year 1 (c.1292 BCE), Ramesses II was at Abdju / Abydos. While there, he appointed a new First Priest of Amun (Hem Netjer Tepy en Imen). He chose his candidate by consulting the deity directly, engaging in an oracle with Amun to choose the best option. Shortly after, Ramesses departed Abdju and continued his northward journey. Eventually, he came to Giza, home of the Great Sphinx and the deity that inhabited it... The History of Egypt Podcast: Website: www.egyptianhistorypodcast.com. Ramesses had a lot to plan for, in his first year of rule (c.1292 BCE). Staying in Waset / Luxor, the new pharaoh began building work on his tomb (KV7) and his memorial temple (The Ramesseum). Archaeological records testify to both of these projects. Then, the King immortalised his late father, the Osiris Sety I, in scenes of worship at Karnak. Finally, Ramesses left Waset, heading north; but he stopped at Abdju / Abydos on his way. There to commune with Osiris (Sety) once more, and to address some glaring issues... In the annals of Egyptian history there is no one quite like Ramesses II. He is arguably the most famous, or infamous, of Egypt's pharaohs. His reign would be long (67 years!) and his influence would be incalculable. In this episode, Ramesses "appears" as King, following the death of his father (III Shemu 27). He chooses his royal names (Usir-Ma'at-Ra, Ramesses Beloved of Amun). He buries Sety, in the Valley of the Kings. And he goes before the gods to receive blessings and power...

In the late 1830s, the owner of Mammoth Cave hoped to attract more tourists to the area. One of the key figures in making that happen was a slave named Stephen Bishop. Stephen became one of the most popular guides in the caves history, as well as a brave and savvy explorer, responsible for the expansion of the cave system with his discovery of several 'new' areas like the Bottomless Pit and Ruins of Karnak. It was stipulated in his owners will that Stephen was to be emancipated seven years after the owners death, and he was finally free in 1856, but unfortunately his story does not have a happy ending. There is so much more to be said about the role of slaves related to the early exploration and management of Mammoth Cave than what's covered in this episode.

Gospel On The Nile Cruise - https://www.cwicmedia.com/gospel-on-the-nile Bruce Porter and Greg discuss the image of Facsimile 1 of the Book of Abraham on a wall at Karnak, Egypt in the Temple of Opet. The engraved image has Osiris on a Lion Couch bed, with his feet APART and his Hand in front of his mouth. What is its meaning? How might this fit in with the Royal Procession and our own temple experiences? And what context does this give to the Book of Abraham and the other facsimiles? And how might the Opet Festival play a part in understanding the wall at the Temple of Opet? Website - www.cwicmedia.com

The cults of Ahmose-Nefertari and Amenhotep I were vibrant in the west Theban region, and their oracles were essential to solving many disputes. Herihor connected his militarily-achieved kingship to his position in the Karnak priesthood using the ancestor kings as touchstones. Twenty-first Dynasty Theban elites named their children after 18th Dynasty monarchs; Theban High Priest and king Panedjem named a daughter Maatkare, ostensibly after Hatshepsut of the 18th Dynasty, and a son Menkheperre after Thutmose III. Examination of the 20th and 21st Dynasty interventions of the royal mummies from Dra Abu el Naga and the Valley of the Kings indicates these royal corpses were used as sacred effigies of a sort, rewrapped and placed into regilded containers even after they had been stripped of their treasures and golden embellishments. This paper will examine how immigrants and mercenaries were able to move into Theban elite circles by marshaling ancestral connections to power. Men like Herihor and Panedjem, one of them at least of Meshwesh origins, worked within an Upper Egyptian cultural system that put its temple communities of practice before its military and veiled its politics with pious rituals and oracular pronouncements. Such elites had to negotiate their identities and power grabs through the cultural memory of the region's royal ancestors.* Episode 83- Thutmose III and the Veneration of the Royal Ancestors * Cooney, Kathlyn M. 2022. In this episode of "History For Weirdos," Andrew takes you on a journey back to ancient Egypt, to uncover the story of one of history's most intriguing figures: Hatshepsut, the woman who dared to become pharaoh. In a society dominated by men, her ascent to the throne was nothing short of revolutionary. Through a blend of storytelling and historical analysis, we delve into Hatshepsut's early life, her unconventional rise to power, and her ambitious reign that transformed Egypt. From her strategic maneuverings within the royal court to her divine coronation, this episode explores the complexities and challenges she faced in securing and legitimizing her rule. But Hatshepsut's story is not just one of power; it's also a tale of architectural marvels and artistic innovation. The highlight of her reign, the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, or Djeser-Djeseru, stands as a testament to her vision and determination. We explore the significance of her building projects, from the towering obelisks of Karnak to the serene splendor of her mortuary temple, and how these structures were meant to immortalize her legacy. Join us as we unravel the mysteries of Hatshepsut's reign, her deliberate erasure from history by her successors, and her lasting impact on the world of ancient Egypt. This episode is a tribute to the woman who became king and the indelible mark she left on history, proving that the past is not only stranger than we imagine, but stranger than we can imagine. - **Our Patreon is now live

In New Kingdom Egypt (c.1500 - 1150 BCE), the pharaohs and their agents had many dealings with people of the Mediterranean. These include the ancient Cretans (the "Keftiu" or Minoans) and the Mycenaeans (the "Danae" or "Danaeans"). And from the time of Amunhotep III (c. 1400--1362 BCE), we have tentative evidence for Egyptian embassies visiting these islands. From Memphis to Mycenae, Karnak to Crete, we go in search of international relations. Compilation of previously released material. Interview starts at 34:15 Ben van Kerkwyk of UnchartedX joins us for a great chat about evidence of ancient machine technology. 10's of thousands of vases have been discovered over the years and some are hand made, but some are very precise and supposedly go back thousands of years. We chat about the Vase Scan Project, the accuracy of these finely tuned vases, the machining process, Egyptian artifacts, Dunn's new book, the early Pharaohs, the Step Pyramid, the Serapeum, the granite boxes, and Sacred Geometry. How were these vases made following precise sacred radial traversal patterns? Whey do they say the accusers and skeptics? What about the chain of custody? We chat about the upcoming eclipse event, the next project focusing on the lost labyrinth of Egypt, the parallels with Malcolm Bendall's work, the Valley Temple, 4th Dynasty, Karnak and the floods. https://unchartedx.com/ In the intro we chat about the skeptic movement that died about 10 years ago, the cold snap and the upcoming Eclipse. https://skepticalaboutskeptics.org/investigating-skeptics/whos-who-of-media-skeptics/james-randi/ https://theethicalskeptic.com/tag/james-randi-fraud/ https://www.skeptiko-forum.com/threads/james-randi-the-documentary.1960/ If you would rather watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ph4u8yUNeF8 https://rumble.com/v46bkoq-ben-van-kerkwyk-uncharted-x-pyramids-the-labyrinth-and-megalithic-south-ame.html https://rokfin.com/stream/43652 https://twitter.com/grimericaoutlaw Help support the show, because we can't do it without ya. Winter arrives in the northern hemisphere tomorrow night. That's the time of the winter solstice. Tomorrow and Friday will be the shortest days of the year in the northern hemisphere. The Sun will rise farthest south for the year as well. Over the millennia, many cultures built observatories or temples to watch that sunrise. Doors, windows, or walls were aligned to frame the rising Sun. The alignments often honored the gods, and commemorated the fact that the Sun would be headed northward, bringing longer days. An early example is the Temple of Karnak in Egypt. It was built in Thebes, which was one of ancient Egypt's most important cities. The temple was established about 4,000 years ago, by the pharaoh Senusret I. On the winter solstice, the Sun rose through a narrow passage between high walls. It beamed into a sanctuary dedicated to Amun, the creator god and one of the most important gods of Egypt. The sunrise alignment was perpendicular to the path of the nearby Nile River, giving it extra significance. Several kings added to the temple in ways that emphasized the alignment. And over the centuries, many other temples were built in the complex. Almost all of them kept that same alignment — to the rising Sun on the winter solstice. The exact time of the solstice is 9:27 p.m. Central Standard Time tomorrow — the start of winter, which continues until the spring equinox, in March.
