Are you living a life you really believe in, or are you filling in time until your “real life” begins? Are you waiting on marriage, a better job, a new exercise regime or a beautiful house to create an authentic life?  Humans do need to have goals and plans, but it is also destructive to ignore those inner voices telling us what would bring us individual meaning.  In this classic episode, Andrew and PHILIP CARR-GOMM discuss how to start developing your authentic self right now, rather than endlessly kicking that important ball further down the road.  Philip Carr-Gomm is an expert in psychosynthesis, an  “awe-inspiring territory that has the power to transform us”. He believes that something magical happens when the worlds of modern psychology and ancient spiritual teachings are brought together. Philip has studied Druidry extensively and from 1988-2020 was the leader of The Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids. He has a degree in Psychology and has trained in psychotherapy, play therapy, Montessori education, yoga nidra, mindfulness meditation and Sophrology. Philip recently created an online school, The Art of Living Well, to offer courses combining psychological and spiritual understanding. If You're Looking for More…. Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

I. Ocean furrows II. The liquid skin of story  III. Island protecting waves "What are the living sonic expressions inherited from our ancestors? This question came to me when I read the definition of ‘intangible cultural heritage' on the UNESCO website. The field recording I chose from the Fisherman's Wharf in Santa Cruz in the Galapagos Islands, is, in the words of Josué Jaramillo, ‘a unique polyphony, where work, culture and wildlife converge in an imperfect but very human harmony'. Listening to the recording, I was mesmerised by the sound of the ‘knives sliding on whetstones', as well as the daily conversations and the flowing of sounds into each other. Watching videos of the wharf online, I was transfixed by the seabirds, iguanas and sea lions that waited patiently for -or simply took- their fair share of the fish meat.  "Researching Ecuadorian folk music, I came across ‘Taita Quishpe', a song about the love felt by an indigenous agriculturalist towards their ‘chakrita', the small plot of land which provides for them and soothes them like the sound of the ‘rondador', the national instrument of Ecuador. I thought of the ocean around the Galapagos Islands as one giant chakrita, and the very particular relationship islanders have with the sea, its deep and shifting waters.  "This provoked me to explore my own heritage as a British-Greek person. The first thing that came to my mind was the Odyssey, the epic rhapsody of the eponymous hero's perilous journey of return. Thinking about the waters of heritage and story, I was reminded of the evasive figure of Proteus, the shapeshifting old man of the sea, transforming himself into ‘a lion, a serpent, a leopard, a boar, rushing water, a mighty tree'. I felt that across the ages this is also what stories do.  "The next thing that came to mind was the Met Office's shipping forecast, that spell-like, reliable, life-saving transmission. This spell led to thinking about other spells, about the fate of ancient traditions that were lost, only to be remade in modern form, such as the animistic traditions of Druidry and its flowing spirit of inspiration, or Awen.  "The soundscape hopefully evokes something of this imaginative journey, taking the original field recording itself as a point of departure. My idea has been to dissolve boundaries, to express the movement of waves and to allow for the invisible radiophonic liquidity that we are all part of to emerge; it seems to me that both through tangible and intangible waters, all our different islands might be connected, and perhaps that sonic currents of our heritage are always travelling to shores much further than we think." Sounds:  Ocean furrows:  • Extracts from the original field recording (unedited and edited)  • Sample from ‘Taita Quishpe', Gloria Haro y conjunto folklorico, from ‘El Canto dela Raza', 1969  The liquid skin of story:  • Extract from ‘The Odyssey', Rhapsody 4, Homer, read in Modern Greek by Veroniki Krikoni and in Spanish by Christos Siorikis  • Field recording at Parkland Walk, London. Can a soul exist in steel, in code, in a whisper of digital thought? This Substack is reader-supported. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. In this provocative episode of Creation's Paths, Charlie and Brian—Christopagan Druids and spiritual teachers—delve into the intersection of AI, consciousness, and the soul through a Christopagan lens of applied spirituality, theology, and animism. This episode doesn't focus on the ethics or mechanics of AI, but instead asks deeper, more contemplative questions:What is consciousness? What do we mean when we say “soul”?Can non-human entities—like animals, plants, or even AI—possess sentience, sapience, or soul? How do spiritual traditions like Christopaganism, Druidry, Buddhism, and animism shape our understanding of these concepts?Using examples from nature, technology, and pop culture (including Star Trek and the Turing Test), they challenge the anthropocentric assumption that only humans can be conscious or soulful. The duo invites listeners to explore what it means to live in right relationship with all beings, sentient or not, and reflects on how our definitions of soul shape the way we treat others—including emerging artificial intelligence. This is a philosophical deep dive that blends spiritual inquiry, speculative thought, and interfaith dialogue—an invitation to engage with the world (and technology) in a more soulful, compassionate way. Thanks for reading! They discuss the eight seasonal festivals, the importance of storytelling in Druidry, and the need to actively engage in spiritual work rather than passively consuming teachings. The episode also touches on the false sense of rootedness that comes from societal shackles, the value of finding true belonging, and how Druidry fosters personal empowerment and spiritual autonomy. As they prepare for the upcoming Spring Equinox, Charlie shares how discovering a reference to Aengus in Ross Nichols' Book of Druidry transformed their understanding of the festival, illustrating how new insights can deepen spiritual connection. The discussion also highlights the contrast between imperial religions as passive "restaurant experiences" versus Druidry's active engagement in spiritual "kitchen work." In the early hours of Thursday, June 14, 2007, just before sunrise, 32-year-old Christopher Vaughn was found limping along a rural road near Channahon, Illinois searching for help after he had sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his left thigh and left wrist. Vaughn, a devoted husband to his wife, Kimberly, 34, and a loving father to their three children—12-year-old Abigayle, 11-year-old Cassandra, and 8-year-old Blake—flagged down a passerby at 5:18 a.m. and asked him to call 911. Tragically, when the police arrived on the scene, they discovered Kim and the three children were brutally slain inside the family's red 2004 Ford Expedition SUV, parked on a service road just off Interstate 55. The devastating tragedy raised one important question. Which parent killed their beautiful, young children? Did this loving mother kill her family and then turn the gun on herself or did Chris Vaughn attempt to cover up his own unthinkable crime?Listen to both parts today on Patreon.Today's snacks: Motor City Pizza Company frozen pizza and Gino's Frozen Deep Dish pizzaSources:https://www.change.org/p/christopher-vaughn-is-innocent Change.org https://www.newspapers.com/image/232254362/?match=1&terms=Christopher%20Vaughnhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/232234627/?match=1&terms=Christopher%20Vaughnhttps://casetext.com/case/people-v-vaughn-194https://www.newspapers.com/image/234530062/?match=1&terms=Christopher%20Vaughnhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/234532734/?match=1&terms=Christopher%20Vaughnhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/234533796/?match=1&terms=Christopher%20Vaughn https://www.newspapers.com/image/234544710/?match=1&terms=Christopher%20Vaughnhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/234545922/?match=1&terms=Christopher%20Vaughnhttps://www.newspapers.com/image/234545916/?match=1&terms=Christopher%20Vaughnhttps://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/chicagotribune/name/kimberly-vaughn-obituary?id=2492999https://www.editorandpublisher.com/stories/in-weird-coincidence-murdered-family-was-profiled-in-sun-times-real-estate-feature,42510https://www.msn.com/en-us/crime/general/convicted-killer-drew-peterson-s-lawyer-flips-on-former-client/ar-AA1x4WQWhttps://www.chicagotribune.com/2012/09/21/christopher-vaughn-guilty-of-killing-wife-3-children/https://patch.com/illinois/joliet/killer-chris-vaughn-gone-in-50-minuteshttps://www.newspapers.com/image/234551875/?match=1&terms=%22Christopher%20Vaughn%22https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2239561/Christopher-Vaughn-sentenced-life-terms-brutal-slayings-children-wife-SUV.htmlhttps://newschannel20.com/news/local/new-efforts-to-exonerate-illinois-father-convicted-of-killing-his-family-in-2007https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Druidry_(modern)https://patch.com/illinois/shorewood-il/blood-expert-pokes-holes-in-chris-vaughn-s-killing-story https://www.newspapers.com/image/240562729/?match=1&terms=%22Christopher%20Vaughn%22https://www.newspapers.com/image/240780092/?match=1&terms=%22Christopher%20Vaughn%22https://chicago.suntimes.com/2024/1/5/24026722/judge-sanctions-lawyer-parents-christopher-vaughn-killing-wife-3-kidshttps://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2021/9/5/22656272/effort-underway-free-christopher-vaughn-conviction-murdering-wife-kidshttps://docs.google.com/viewerng/viewer?url=https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/22825794/TranscriptofClosingArgument.pdf

Are we bound by fate or do we weave our own destiny? Discover the two fates in Druidcraft!--- Join and support the community: https://www.creationspaths.com/In this episode of _Creation's Paths_, Charlie and Brian explore the dual concepts of fate in Druidcraft—_Dána_ (the fate we are born with) and _Wyrd_ (the fate we create). They discuss how our natural talents, inclinations, and ancestral lineage shape our starting path, while our choices and actions allow us to weave our own destiny.Through the lens of Christopaganism and Druidry, they emphasize the importance of recognizing these fates, harnessing intuition, and developing divination skills like scrying, tarot, and pendulum work. They also stress that fate is not fixed—it is fluid, like water, and can be channeled through skill, discipline, and magical practice. The episode encourages listeners to reflect on their innate gifts, recognize external influences on their lives, and take active steps to shape their own destiny. It also highlights the importance of journaling, testing spiritual insights, and using divination to navigate the subtle currents of fate.Thank you for Liking and Subscribing to this podcastThank you for sharing this episode with your loved ones, friends and community--- Thank you for Tips or Donations:https://ko-fi.com/cedorsetthttps://patreon.com/cedorsettSubstack: https://www.creationspaths.com/For all of the things we are doing at The Seraphic Grove go to Creation's Paths https://www.creationspaths.com/For Educational Resource: https://wisdomscry.com Guided Meditations Playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0J2QAAlD1uaIJvQ3Sr9sIqO Christopagan Playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0ISXDQkZBRB7EHrUUJgXlGN The Everything Playlist:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV0C8kiTKv0Ln3eGW-tDk2R68PM6c182OCreation's Paths Podcast: http://www.creationspaths.com/podcastChurch of the Oak Podcast: http://churchoftheoak.com/Hallowstead Podcast: http://hallowstead.com/Social Connections:BlueSky https://bsky.app/profile/creationspaths.comThreads https://www.threads.net/@creationspathsInstagram https://www.instagram.com/creationspaths/## Chapters:00:00 Introduction to Fate and Druidcraft01:05 Meet the Hosts: Charlie and Brian01:14 Understanding the Two Fates: Donna and Weird02:04 The Importance of Language in Conceptualizing Fate04:59 Exploring Your Natural Talents and Inclinations09:04 The Role of Effort and Discipline in Shaping Fate17:53 Divination Practices and Intuition Training27:36 Conclusion and Community Engagement

Druidry is the indigenous spirituality of the islands of Britain, but how does is live in the contemporary world? What are the values and practices that make it so suited to the inflexion point of the moment? Why - and how - does it mesh so well with other, more spiritual traditions? And how does the practice of Will, the honing of intent, create the magic we need to see in our world? This week's guest, Philip Carr-Gomm, has spent his life studying, and writing about all of these things. Philip began studying Druidry as a spiritual path with Ross Nichols, the founder of The Order of Bards Ovates and Druids. Later, he took a degree in psychology from University College London, and trained in psychotherapy for adults at The Institute of Psychosynthesis, in play therapy for children with Dr Rachel Pinney, and in Sophrology – a system of mind-body training for deep relaxation and personal development. He has also trained in Montessori education and founded the Lewes Montessori School. In 1988, he was asked to lead The Order of Bards Ovates and Druids. For thirty two years, he was the Chief Druid of Britain until, in June 2020, he handed on this role to his successor, Eimear Burke. He is now involved in the work of the ACER Integration programme and the Sophrology Institute. He's a prolific author, having written or contributed to over two dozen books, mostly exploring Druidry, but more recently he has written The Gift of Night: A six step programme for better sleep, and Seek Teachings Everywhere: Combining Druid Spirituality with Other Traditions.  He is co-creator of two sets of Celtic Oracle cards and has written the text for two tarot sets. He is host of the magnificent 'Tea with a Druid' which is part of his active, pro-active YouTube channel. On his website, he says, "Something magical happens when the worlds of psychology and spirituality are brought together. Every discipline in psychology helps to reveal the extraordinary nature of the human being, but add the insights of the Perennial Wisdom Tradition – the ancient knowledge and esoteric teachings passed down through the ages – and we enter awe-inspiring territory that has the power to transform us."And this feels perfectly aligned with this podcast, and with the times. So as we head down into the long-nights of the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere and up into the long-days in the south, we offer the wisdom of the grove and the mountain and the river. Do all Pagans celebrate the solstices? Why is it written "Pagan" and other times "pagan"? Do they have sacred texts? Is Druidry the indigenous religion of Europe? What does the pentagram symbol mean? Can anyone be a witch? Are Pagans anti-Christian?  The book also covers issues with terminology, including the labelling of ancient, non-Western and indigenous groups as 'pagan', common assumptions and misconceptions about Pagans, and more.
