In today's episode we talk with Selema Masekela - perhaps best known as the face of the X Games. But there is more to Selema's story than meets the eye. Son of a world renowned jazz musician ( Hugh Masekela https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugh_Masekela ) Selema grow up on the East Coast going to late night jazz clubs on the weekends, rubbing elbows with the greats. From there, he moved to Carlsbad, where he took naturally to the surf and skate culture. From working odd jobs to answering phones at Transworld, once Selema got his foot in the door, there was no looking back. From Board Aid to Planet. X, X Games to Redbull, Selema has held down hosting responsibilities at arguably the most important events to 18-35 year olds all over the world. THE SNOWBOARD PROJECT Pro Files : Sam Klein Sam Klein is one amazing rider - his approach to street may fall outside today's popular mini shred type features. Instead, Sam draws inspiration from riders like Frank Bourgeois and Jed Anderson and instead of focusing on what is the flavor of the day, goes for big rails with immnediate consequences for coming up short. This story is an interesting one - and traces the career of a snowboarder fueled by determination and the hard fought road to achieving goals in the sport. THE SNOWBOARD PROJECT Pro Files : Jeremy Tofte Jeremy grew up in the shadow of Mt. Baker, in Mt. Vernon Washington, home of Craig Kelly, Dano Donnelly and the MBHC. Growing up in one of snowboardings' favorite spots gave him exposure to then world's best, which quickly quashed his dreams of pro rider super stardom - but Jeremy wanted to see where snowboarding could take him - so he set out in an old VW van for a road trip that would eventually take him to Jackson Hole. It was many years and odd jobs before he started the Thai Me Up restaurant in Jackson - which led to the founding Melvin Brewing. After winning three medals at their first American Beer Festival - Melvin quickly became a household name in craft brewing circles. Staying true to his roots in snowboarding and brewing, Jeremy has kept his brewery independent - in a world where small craft beer labels get regularly snapped up by the larger, international brands. This is a story of a snowboarder turned entrepreneur who never gave up on his first passion - riding. What does Go Snowboarding! mean? In our fourth episode Mark Sullivan talks with Max Holzman, maker of MTN Local snowboards, at his house in Vermont. A lot of people dream of making their own snowboards and Max has taken that idea to fruition, building unique boards one at a time, utilizing a horizontal laminated construction. Each board is a reflection of its intended rider - but the real satisfaction comes from the incremental progression and problem solving challenges that comes with each new build.
