Flanked by jagged mountain spires scratching at the sky and slashed by the crystal waters of the mighty Snake River, the valley of Jackson Hole sets the stage for some wild Wyoming adventures, where the spirit of the West sings out loud. Early fur trappers used the term “hole” to describe a valley entirely encased by mountains, which perfectly sums up Jackson Hole's terrain. Thickly forested mountains are carpeted in fir, spruce and Lodgepole pine trees. Lodgepole trunks served as trusty tipi poles for Native Americans. Then there's the lush alpine meadows and the silvery-gray-green sagebrush flats - all guarded by the Tetons' towering peaks, that are part of the Rockies. Crossing over into Wyoming from Idaho, the vertigo-inducing Teton Pass, at an elevation of 2500 metres, served up my first eagle's perspective of Jackson Hole. It's a mesmerising perspective and searing reminder that this is a land of rugged adventurers and stoic settlers. This sprawling valley not only plays host to hordes of wildlife, but the Grand Teton National Park and the ebullient town of Jackson. As the warm autumn sunshine bathed the bucolic landscape in a soft glow, I was staggered how many road-trippers were out in force, well past the summer peak. But nature's towering glories, whether you're magnetised by the ski slopes, the hiking trails or serendipitous wildlife encounters, underpins Jackson Hole's year-round pulling power. Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen and his wife Lauren Monroe, a musician and holistic wellness expert, founded Raven Drum Foundation to help veterans, first responders and other trauma survivors heal. They recently hosted Mountain Rhythm reset, a weekend retreat in Jackson Hole Wyoming. The weekend included rock star friends (like Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue and Guns and Roses drummer Matt Sorum) but the real stars of the retreat were the veterans, first responders and trauma survivors who engaged with them in a variety of ways. So why did the stock end up closing just flat? Valuations do matter. We talk about it often but excitement over AI or other shiny object parts of the market get priced in with lofty expectations almost always well ahead of any reasonable realities (aka buy the rumor sell the news). Down day in markets overall in a wide trading range on they day. The Dow was up over 220 points and closed down -373 points. The Nasdaq was up over 1% this morning and closed down -1.87%, and yields were higher across the curve. The Fed economic policy forum started today in Jackson Hole WY, with comments out tomorrow. Today we are talking about the real Jackson with Tim Flanagan, longtime Jackson skier, coach and owner of SkiGear TV. Tim has lived in Jackson for over 21 years, teaching, coaching and raining his family. Jackson Hole Wyoming, one of the holy trinity of ski areas in the US. Smack in the middle of the Teton Range in the Rocky Mountains, twelve miles (20 km) northwest of the town of Jackson and due south of Grand Teton National Park. Jackson is arguably the most scenic ski area in North America. Independently owned since 1992 by members of the Kemmerer Family-it is unique by not being owned by one of the big conglomerates and retains its unique character. The main mountain at Teton Village is known for its steep terrain and huge vertical of 4,139 ft.  The official stats are 50% expert, 40% intermediate and 10% beginner with all this terrain serviced by a new and extensive lift system, headlined by the spectacular and legendary Tram. Federal Reserve Jerome Powell spoke at today at Jackson Hole during their annual retreat. By the way, it is so nice for them that they get a nice retreat in Jackson Hole Wyoming every single year despite the economic hardships that other Americans are going through, good for them right!?
