This week on the Microcast, Zoë and TJ run through a stack of running myths and training debates—some serious, some a little silly.First up: Hot or Not. Waist lights? Surprisingly useful. StairMasters? A tool, sure, but not a magic bullet. Then we dive into the trend of weighted vests, sled drags, and other “muscular endurance” hacks. They might look hardcore, but do they really help everyday runners, or just the elites? From there, we answer a listener's Reddit-inspired question: does standing at your desk actually build endurance? (Spoiler: “time on feet” isn't the same thing as running stress.)Finally, we take on the sacred cow of 3:1 deload cycles. Instead of sticking to the calendar, Zoë and TJ explain why recovery is more personal—and how to spot the real-life signs you're ready for a down week.Topics: Hot or Not gear, weighted vests, standing desks, deload weeks, recovery cues.Subscribe so you never miss an episode.Work with us: Microcosm Coaching00:00 – Intro & Welcome02:05 – Hot or Not: Waist Lights06:42 – Hot or Not: StairMaster Training10:15 – Weighted Vests & Muscular Endurance: Do They Help Everyday Runners?18:30 – Elites vs. Real Life: What We Can (and Can't) Borrow22:40 – Reddit Question: Do Standing Desks Build “Time on Feet”?28:12 – Why 3:1 Deload Weeks Are Tradition, Not Science32:55 – Three Signs It's Time to Back Off37:10 – How to Structure a Smarter Deload Week41:25 – Wrap-Up & Takeaways

If you have Parkinson's, should you see a neurologist who is a movement disorders specialist? A general neurologist? An advanced practice provider – nurse practitioner or PA? Or your primary care physician.Although this may seem like an obvious series of questions, in this episode nurse practitioner Sherrie Gould unpacks some of the differences between these medical professionals and some of your options if you are facing a long wait to get an appointment to see a clinician.
When we conceived the topic for this microcast the idea was to talk about the differences for a coach working wth older athletes and younger athletes, or older people with Parkinson's who have to exercise and younger people, with or without Parkinson's, who want to exercise. However, as the conversation developed, the apparent differences became less and less obvious. Join Coach Tracey Jacobs, a cyclist having won world and national championships, and Jeff Seckendorf, age 70, coach and world record holder on the bike and Director of Operations at the Parkinson's Association of San Diego, as they unpack this seemingly simple topic. For more information on Coach Tracey, click here: https://traceyjacobscoaching.com/For Coach Me Strong, click here: https://coachmestrong.com/For exercise opportunities at the Parkinson's Association of San Diego, click here: https://parkinsonsassociation.org/exercise-opportunities/

If people care about you they will want to spend time with you. Learn to be happy and content with yourself first. This starts with knowing what you want out of life. Your happiness will not come from someone else. It has to be internal first. Learn to say NO to people. People who you never hear from seem to appear out of nowhere when they want something from you. Get rid of these people. They are using you. Chasing after people implies that you value their presence more than your own self-worth. Go out and conquer you day and please be safe. A great guest in coming on this week. www.cjevolution.com Patrick

Maybe its for alcohol or drugs, maybe it's for mental health. There is a good chance it's for both. Never give up the fight. There is no end date either. You will always be fighting for your sobriety and healthy mental health. The sooner you accept this the better chance you have of success. I have bad days, but my good days eclipse my bad days because I will never give up. You shouldn't either too. You deserve to be health and happy. Always remember that. www.cjevolution.com Patrick

However, I want you to take a step back for a moment and realize people who are struggling are human too. People who are struggling might be struggling with the same challenges you have been or are. I really believe that people who are struggling share many commonalities. So, before you start judging people I want you to view as people that need your help. And I also want you to remember that you might be, or probably are, dealing with your own challenges. The only difference is you had some opportunities and they probably didn't. Go out and do good in the world, and please be safe. www.cjevolution.com Patrick

Are you constantly thinking about work? You need to step away from the job when you are off. The extra money you make in OT will NEVER take the place of time spent with your family and kids. Trust me. I learned this the hard way. Start prioritizing the PEOPLE in your life, instead of the stuff you want. Balance your life out. You will thank you me later. www.cjevolution.com Patrick

Reach out today at 303.960.9819. https://fherehab.com/ https://www.cjevolution.com/shatterproof/ This week I want you to really reflect and think about the people who you spend the most time with. This could be family or it could be friends. Ask yourself are they helping or hindering. If they do not bring any value to your life and make you strive for greatness then it's time to leave them behind. Now this might sound harsh, but it's necessary for your overall health and wellbeing. Don't be afraid to move on from people who are negative, toxic and complain all the time. They LOVE company. Take charge of your inner circle and watch how your attitude changes for the better. www.cjevolution.com Patrick
