On this week's episode, Cody enthusiastically shares with Joe the latest adaptation of the iconic science fiction film Starship Troopers, which has been reimagined by the talented writer and director Neil Blomkamp. Blomkamp, known for his unique visual storytelling and thought-provoking narratives, brings a fresh perspective to the beloved source material. Cody delves into the specifics of this adaptation, discussing how it aims to capture the essence of the original while introducing new elements that resonate with contemporary audiences. He highlights the innovative special effects and the thought-provoking themes that Blomkamp is renowned for, creating anticipation for fans of the genre.Transitioning to another popular franchise, Joe informs Cody about the remarkable success of the Halo TV series, which has gained a significant following on Netflix, particularly outside the United States. This unexpected popularity sparks a discussion about the global appeal of video game adaptations and how they are finding new audiences in international markets. Joe expresses his surprise at the show's reception, considering the mixed reviews it initially received, and they both ponder what factors contributed to its rise in popularity, such as engaging storytelling and strong character development. As the conversation shifts, Cody provides a detailed breakdown of the rumors circulating after the shocking death of a major character in the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again. The unexpected twist has left fans reeling, and Cody explores the implications it may have on the storyline and character arcs moving forward. Joe listens intently, sharing his own theories and speculating about how this bold creative choice might impact the series' reception and its connection to the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.Joe then expresses his disbelief that The Minecraft Movie hasn't already been released in theaters, given the immense popularity of the game. He reflects on the potential for such a film to either soar to great heights or crash and burn at the box office, considering the challenges of adapting a game with such a loose narrative structure. This leads to a broader discussion about the risks associated with video game adaptations and the expectations that come with them.Continuing along the theme of adaptations, the conversation turns to Disney's apparent lack of confidence in the upcoming live-action remake of Snow White. Cody and Joe analyze the marketing strategies employed by Disney and how they reflect the company's faith in their projects. They discuss the mixed reactions from fans and critics alike, particularly regarding the casting choices and the changes made to the beloved story, which have sparked significant debate within the community. This naturally leads to a conversation about the backlash surrounding other live-action remakes, focusing on the new Lilo & Stitch film. Joe expresses his frustration at the vocal complaints from fans regarding changes made to characters and storylines in these adaptations. The duo examines the balance between honoring the original material and updating it for modern audiences, pondering whether filmmakers should prioritize nostalgia or innovation when reimagining classic tales. As they continue to reminisce about cinematic history, Joe recounts the notorious disaster that was the live-action Super Mario Bros. movie from 1993. With its convoluted plot and stark departure from the source material, the film has become a cautionary tale for future adaptations. Cody and Joe dissect what went wrong with this film, reflecting on how it has impacted the perception of video game movies ever since and what lessons can be learned from its failures. Finally, the discussion takes a fascinating turn as they dive deep into the works of David Cronenberg, exploring his distinctive filmmaking style and the themes that permeate his body of work. They analyze how Cronenberg's films often blur the lines between horror and science fiction, delving into the human psyche and the complexities of identity. This exploration reveals their admiration for Cronenberg's ability to challenge audiences and provoke thought through his provocative storytelling.Official Website: https://www.comesnaturallypodcast.comOfficial Merchandise: https://shop.spreadshirt.com/comes-naturally-podcast/iTunes: http://tinyurl.com/kqkgackFacebook: http://tinyurl.com/myovgm8Tumblr: http://tinyurl.com/m7a6mg9Twitter: @ComesNaturalPodYouTube: http://tiny.cc/5snxpy

They say, "In space, no one can hear you scream." But we've seen through eight Alien films that plenty of people can hear you scream if you're in a spaceship. The Xenomorphs have no problem causing their victims a lot of pain. Even though we've seen them in many films, fans will mostly agree that after Aliens, the franchise was never the same. In 2015, filmmaker Neill Blomkamp announced he had been working on a new Alien project. This was even a surprise to Fox, which owned the series. Fans seemed excited by the prospect of the director taking on the project after the imaginative sci-fi films he had been releasing. Ultimately, Neil Blomkamp's Alien 5 would fall apart after some starts and stops. Let's find out exactly why here on What Happened To This Unmade Movie

After a much-needed reprieve, we return to the world of game-to-film adaptations with Neil Blomkamp's Gran Turismo. Based on the true story of gamer-turned-racer Jann Mardenborough, it's a fine enough retelling of a dream come true, and a decent little racing movie with just enough action and beauty to carry it through the more dull moments and puddle-deep character work. Ben & Rob complete their lap of every Neil Blomkamp movie ever with his 2023 film 'Gran Turismo', starring Archie Madekwe, David Harbour, Orlando Bloom and Djimon Hounsou. When veteran Playstation gamer Jann Mardenborough wins the chance of a lifetime to compete in professional races, will his lack of real-world experience be an obstacle to him winning the race, the girl, and the love of two fathers? Or did Sony hope that by bringing together Legolas and the Hellboy no-one wanted they might shift some Playstations? But most importantly of all, has Neil Blomkamp's got any bankable reputation left after the hellishly awful ordeal of Demonic was unleashed on audiences? Perhaps Gran Turismo is the final nail in the coffin of a once promising director who gave us the sci-fi perfection of District Nine. Or maybe, just maybe, its the roaring comeback we know this director deserves. Starring Carly Pope, Chris William Martin and Michael J Rogers, Blomkamp's fourth film is one of many firsts - his first horror, his first small budget feature, and his first total critical and commercial failure. But can Ben convince Rob that there's a single thing to love about this bold new direction for Neil Blomkamp? As his life falls apart around him, can Rob make it to the end of the episode? Rumor of a rumor  from our community says Marvel was eyeing John Boyega to replace Jonathan Majors, but he said no, and now they are retooling and looking to gender flip the character and give us a female version of Kang. For the first time in 15 years, the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) is on strike. Today, Tuesday May 2nd, members began picketing at 1:00 p.m. at various locations including Amazon/Culver Studios, CBS, Disney's Burbank headquarters, and more. A statement from the WGA last week alleges that the studios would not agree to any guaranteed number of weeks of employment for television writers and instead proposed a “day rate” for comedy/variety writers, which would basically make a new category for writers. The statement also claimed the parties stonewalled on proposals over minimizing work with no pay and regulating artificial intelligence writing.  The ‘Year of the Video Game Adaptation' (as coined here on Multiverse News) continues to shift into high gear as this week saw the release of trailers for 2 high profile motor-themed projects, based on Playstation games. Peacock's Twisted Metal series, starring Anthony Mackie, is set to begin streaming July 27th, while Neil Blomkamp's ‘Gran Turismo, with David Harbour, Orlando Bloom and Djimon Honsou attached, looks to race its way to big screens August 11th. According to an exclusive via The Hollywood Reporter, Nic Pizzolatto, the creative force behind HBO's True Detective, has been tapped by Marvel Studios to pen the script for the upcoming Blade film, reuniting him with Mahershala Ali, who starred in True Detective's third season. Blade is currently slated to start production in late May and eyeing a September 6, 2024 release. The film will be helmed by Lovecraft Country's Yann Demange. and also recently added Delroy Lindo and Mia Goth to its cast. After being seen having lunch with Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman, Mila Kunis officially debunked rumors that she'd be starring as The Thing, by saying, “ I am not in the Fantastic Four film, but I know who is.” Rob Delaney will reprise his role from Deadpool 2 as Peter in Deadpool 3 Pedro Pascal is in talks to join the cast of the Gladiator sequel Noah Hawley's Alien Series for FX Casts Sydney Chandler in Lead Role Taika Waititi is in final talks to direct a film adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro's New York Times bestselling novel 'Klara and the Sun.' Releasing from IFC Midnight this weekend, "Demonic" represents many firsts for "District 9" director Neil Blomkamp. It's the first time he's working within the horror genre. The film also marks the return of the director to low-budget filmmaking after his first three films employed higher budgets and visual effects. This also marks the first time he's working with cinematographer Byron Kopman on one of his feature-length films. Byron was kind enough to take some time to explain his working relationship with Neil, the experience of shooting the film, and more! Take a listen down below and enjoy! Dave, Michael, and Ryan enter the Hive to briefly discuss the recent news of a proposed Alien 5 treatment written by longtime Alien producers and Brandywine founders Walter Hill and David Giler.  We talk about our initial thoughts on the announcement, how we feel about the possibility of bringing Ripley back again and, after the debacle of Neil Blomkamp's Alien 5 being scrapped several years ago, if this is something 20th Century and Disney should even go forward with.  What are your thoughts on Hill and Giler's treatment?  Please let us know!  If you haven't yet, please be sure to join our "A Hive Mind" Xenormorphing Facebook discussion group!  Thanks for listening!
