Felt he "failed" after never making a national team, which later fueled his curiosity about how better runners train. How Sweat Elite started: After a failed Strava-like app, Matt launched a site interviewing pros. He later began filming elite workouts (inspired by old FloTrack videos), but it lost money due to last-minute travel costs and limited YouTube revenue. He recouped losses by documenting his own marathon builds. Content landscape: Athletes now prefer posting their own journeys, making third-party workout videos harder. Influencers-as-coaches is a growing issue; both agree formal qualifications aren't required (many great coaches never had them), but buyers should do due diligence. Bad influencer coaches can still introduce people to the sport who later seek better help. Creators they follow: Truett Haynes (humor + ambitious Olympic Trials goal despite current times being far off; recently hired Rory Linkletter). Also Eric Floberg (cinematography) and Rory Linkletter (authenticity, Canadian marathon record pursuit). Weight/body composition debate: Matt accidentally got very lean (70 kg) for a 2:20 marathon, then gained 3–4 kg and plateaued at 2:23–2:24. After noticing he was much larger than the Japanese runners he raced with, he used carb-cycling (high carbs around key sessions, deficit on easy days) to drop back to ~69 kg and ran 2:18–2:19. He has since lost another ~12 kg. He stresses this is highly individual and risky. Personality matters: people with OCD/obsessive tendencies are more likely to develop RED-S or eating disorders. He now studies nutrition to give safer guidance. Examples cited: Josh Kerr's long-term leaning-out, George Cush dropping weight before winning Comrades, Ryan Hall hitting a point where further loss hurt performance. Both emphasize timing (fuel hard sessions, restrict on recovery days), not living in a perpetual deficit, and resetting after races. Chinese super shoes: Matt recently lab-tested 12 models from Anta, Li-Ning, 361°, Xtep, Dynafish, etc. Many perform comparably to Western shoes at half the price and often last longer. Notable mentions: Li-Ning Dragon Flight (79 g, technically illegal but extremely fast; a legal version is coming), Anta C10 (very similar to Puma Fast-R), Dynafish trainer (versatile, durable, sub-200 g). Barriers in the U.S.: high tariffs, limited specialty-store distribution, and brands currently focused on the Chinese market. Anta and Li-Ning are expanding globally. Alô, alô! Cadê a anta que tava aqui? A anta brasileira  (Tapirus terrestris) é o maior mamífero terrestre que temos na América do Sul. Os indivíduos adultos podem chegar a 300 kg. Conhecida como jardineira da floresta, a anta tem o importante papel ecológico de dispersar sementes por onde anda, ou seja: é uma espécie que planta a floresta e ajuda a manter a diversidade das nossas matas. Apesar do nome, a ‘anta brasileira', não é exclusiva do Brasil. Ela ocorre em 11 países sul americanos, entre eles a Argentina, Bolívia, Equador, Paraguai, Peru, entre outros. Em contexto global, a anta é uma espécie considerada vulnerável à extinção e suas populações estão diminuindo devido principalmente à perda de habitat, à caça ilegal, às colisões com veículos (atropelamentos em rodovias) e à contaminação por agrotóxicos. It's fantastic when a comic gives you a jolt. Beast of Borikén, written by Julio Anta and illustrated by Daniel Irizarri, delivers a great prod, stimulating your brain to run numerous scenarios on and off the page. It's the story of a people who've witnessed so much monstrosity at the hands of invaders. It's a story of people finding strength in their neighbors, ancestors, and legends. The first issue is out now, from Dark Horse Comics and Tiny Onion, and we investigate it meaningfully with both storytellers. Set in Puerto Rico, the main character is Loli, an activist protesting an incoming resort, the face of which is yuppy CEO Simon Hunt, who is using every slippery trick in the book to break ground despite opposition. Loli is incensed and focused on stopping the overdevelopment of her ancestral lands, but is her fixation in part because she is avoiding processing a horrendous grief, since her father died alone in a hospital during Hurricane Maria? This week on the podcast, we speak with Julio Anta and Daniel Irizarri about Beast of Borikén, witnessing endless horror, and hope through collective action. We discuss the influence of The Creature from the Black Lagoon and the appeal of monsters. Also, what does it all have to do with Robocop 2? Anta Guanjun Saker 3RC abrió el año desde Enero, con la Nîmes Urban Trail como cierre a final Febrero. El recorrido atravesaba el casco histórico de la ciudadfrancesa combinando adoquines, escaleras, rampas y cambios continuos desuperficie. Fue una buena oportunidad para evaluar el comportamiento dinámicode una zapatilla desarrollada por una marca que ha incrementado notablemente su presencia internacional durante los últimos años. Merrell Agility Peak 6 cerró una prueba de más de 200kilómetros acumulados en la Subida a las Estrellas de Reventón El Paso. Aquella vertical nocturna de 3k/D+20m supuso además mi primer dorsal específico de carrera vertical. La noche trajo humedad, niebla y barro sobre el recorrido. Sus 280 gramos, perfil 30-38 mm y suela VibramMegagrip respondieron bien en una subida continua hasta meta. La principal conclusión fue comprobar que un modelo concebido para largas distancias podíarendir también en una carrera vertical.Rossignol Vercors pasó por Sierra Bullones 16K, enCeuta, y posteriormente por Costa Blanca Trails 22K antes de cerrar sus 200km de prueba en los senderos del Guadarrama esta primavera. Por el camino afrontó escenarios muy distintos, desde senderos rápidos hasta montaña mediterránea más técnica. La prueba permitió comprobar una zapatilla que apuesta por una conducción más directa y una sensación de contacto con el terreno superior a la que ofrecen muchos modelos maximalistas actuales.Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra 2 tras los rodajes entrenando juntos fue mi apuesta para dos carreras de larga distancia: Trail Menorca Camí de Cavalls 27K y MaratónTransvulcania 48K. Ambas pruebas permitieron evaluar un modelo concebido para correr rápido durante muchas horas. La combinación de espuma Lightstrike Pro yperfil elevado favorece una carrera fluida en terrenos corribles, pero no es la de mayor confianza para encarar terrenos técnicos por el notable balancín de su chasis.  Kailas Fuga Pro fue puesta a prueba en subidas y bajadas técnicas clásicos del GUadarrama que superó con nota. De ahí que fuera la zapatilla elegida para afrontarla Traveserina de Picos de Europa. La prueba incluía senderos técnicos, roca,fuertes desniveles y numerosos cambios de ritmo. Precisamente en ese tipo deterreno se puso a prueba el comportamiento de un modelo concebido para montañatécnica.CONCLUSIÓN. No existe ni la zapatilla perfecta para todos, ni el probador adecuado para todas las zapatillas. La elección final depende del tipo de corredor y del objetivo de temporada.
