Op 18 maart 2026 staan de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen op het programma. Als Neije Krant kijken we de komende periode in onze podcast met fractievoorzitters terug op de start van de gemeente Land van Cuijk, de status van de huidige gemeente, wat er leeft en speelt en hoe men naar de toekomst kijkt. Patrick Martens groeide op in een klein dorp in Brabant. Over homoseksualiteit werd - zeker in die tijd - niet gesproken, of alleen met veel haat en walging. ,,Flikker, vieze homo… Als je dat soort woorden steeds hoort, denk je op een gegeven moment: ik wil dat niet zijn. Ik dook steeds dieper in de schaamte.’’ ,,Ik wist al op jonge leeftijd: ik ben homo. En dat is superkut. Maar als ik een heel lief, aardig mens word, valt het misschien minder op.’’ Pleasen werd zijn overlevingsmechanisme. Patrick probeerde voortdurend te voldoen aan de verwachtingen van anderen. ,,Ik dacht altijd dat een coming-out een enorme bevrijding zou zijn. Toen het eindelijk zover was, kwam ik in een ugly cry terecht. Alle stress en spanning van 23 jaar kwam eruit. Ik kon niks meer, alleen maar keihard huilen, huilen, huilen.’’ Maar nadat het hoge woord eruit was, bleef hij achter met schaamte. De weg naar zelfliefde bleek lang. ,,Ik was wel out, maar totaal niet proud’’, zegt hij. ,,Ik kon mezelf nog steeds niet accepteren en schakelde over in een andere versnelling: veel feesten met heel veel drank en drugs. Ik heb mezelf echt kapot willen maken.’’ Na het overlijden van zijn vader besloot Patrick de tijger in de ogen te kijken. Het schrijven van het boek hielp – net als een ayahuasca-trip, die hem een cruciaal inzicht bracht. ,,Ik gaf mezelf een knuffel en zei: jongen, het komt goed.’’ En ‘goedkomen’ betekent voor Martens niet dat alles perfect is – integendeel. ,,Ik gun iedereen een jaar waarin alles kut gaat. Patrick Martens is acteur en presentator. Hij brak door met zijn rollen in de jeugdserie ‘ZOOP' en ‘Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden'. Ook was hij drie jaar lang een van de vaste presentatoren van ‘Koffietijd'. En hij deed mee aan de populaire spelprogramma's ‘Wie is de Mol?' en ‘Het Perfecte Plaatje'. Het kabinet gaat flink bezuinigen op de publieke omroep. Over een paar weken komt minister Eppo Bruins met zijn plannen. Het bedrag is wel al bekend: 156 miljoen in 2027. As I mentioned on the previous show about the Lynx trailing trip, I was planning on heading up to Algonquin Park to trail Moose, Algonquin Wolves, Martens, Snowshoe Hare, Flying Squirrels, and whomever else's trails we may come across. This is the 24th year of this trip, and I am so grateful to get to not only be there, but to be helping lead the week. Lorsqu'on observe la composition des salles lors des représentations de spectacles de danse en France, il est difficile de ne pas faire le constat – malgré tout ce que nous, les médiatrices et médiateurs culturels, les responsables de programmation, les communiquants… pouvons mettre en place afin de diversifier au maximum les publics – que la danse est une forme artistique qui attire plus facilement des personnes issues de milieux intellectuels et sensibilisés depuis l'enfance. Notre appartenance à une certaine classe sociale et culturelle déterminerait donc notre goût pour telle ou telle forme d'art, c'est précisément la théorie que défend Pierre Bourdieu dans La Distinction, qui fait encore aujourd'hui autorité. Et pourtant, au fur et à mesure des rencontres artistiques que j'ai pu faire au sein du Manège, autant parmi les artistes que parmi les spectateurs et spectatrices, nous rencontrons de nombreux contre-exemples à cette théorie déterministe. Notre invité du jour, Jan Martens, pourrait bien faire partie de ces contre-exemples, et il est devenu en quelques années l'un des chorégraphes incontournables de sa génération. D'ailleurs, dans ses pièces, il se bat lui aussi contre un certain cloisonnement du monde de l'art, il va nous expliquer cela lors de cet entretien réalisé à distance.
