We talk about his transition from music and fashion into weddings, what it looks like to treat each wedding like a creative brief, and why film still plays such an important role in his work. In de speciale ‘2025 Wrapped Up Special’ van de podcast Over de Liefde blikken Debby Gerritsen en collega Silver van Eijck terug op de meest memorabele momenten van het afgelopen jaar. Van diepgaande persoonlijke gesprekken tot een discussie die social media in vuur en vlam zette. Een van de mooiste afleveringen van het jaar was die met acteur en presentator Patrick Martens. Aanleiding voor zijn komst was zijn boek Vandaag voel ik me goed. Zijn jeugd op het platteland, zijn worsteling met zijn seksualiteit, de dood van zijn vader en zijn eeuwige pleasegedrag: Martens schreef het allemaal van zich af. Het boek gaat over zijn coming-out en over zelfliefde — jezelf accepteren en durven omarmen, met alles wat je bent en wat je niet bent. Vooral dat laatste is makkelijker gezegd dan gedaan. Silver: “Ik ben ook homo, dus dit was voor mij heel herkenbaar. Ik ken die struggles, net als heel veel queer mensen.” De meest aangrijpende aflevering was niet per se de best beluisterde. Die eer ging naar het gesprek met cabaretier Youp van ’t Hek. Debby: “You love Youp or hate Youp. Ik hoor duidelijk bij de eerste categorie. We hadden een mooi en ontroerend gesprek over zijn grote liefde Debby, over zijn familie en over de dood van zijn geliefde zwager. Tijdens de opnames, maar ook nadat de microfoons uitgingen, bleef hij nog lang zitten.” De aflevering met Elles Beijers, managing editor van ELLE Nederland, over het fenomeen mankeeping leidde tot de meest verhitte discussies op social media. Debby legde het zo uit: “In heteroseksuele relaties zijn vrouwen het zat om continu de emoties en agenda’s van hun man te managen. Uit onderzoek blijkt dat vrouwen daar simpelweg op leeglopen. En nee, dat geldt niet voor alle mannen — maar het is wel degelijk aan de hand.” De podcast kreeg felle, en soms ronduit onleesbare, reacties van mannen die zich persoonlijk aangevallen voelden. Silver reageerde droog: “Mannen voelen zich allemaal zo aangevallen. Calm your titties, en doe eens rustig.” De discussie raakte overduidelijk een gevoelige snaar en legt iets bloot over hardnekkige, traditionele rolpatronen in moderne relaties. Een ander cruciaal moment was de aflevering met schrijver en universitair Hoofddocent Tila Pronk over gaslighting. Pronk deelde een persoonlijk verhaal over hoe deze vorm van emotioneel misbruik leidt tot diepe, destructieve twijfel: “Je gaat op een gegeven moment echt denken: mijn waarneming klopt niet meer.” De herkenbaarheid van het onderwerp zorgde voor een stroom aan onthutsende reacties van luisteraars. Tot slot was er nog één aflevering die de boeken inging als het ‘dieptepunt’ van het jaar — maar wel eentje met een legendarische afloop. Het gesprek met schrijfster Annemarie Oster over haar boek Mannen werd voortijdig afgekapt door de 81-jarige auteur zelf, die er zichtbaar geen zin in had. In der Adventszeit erinnert uns das Lied daran, unser Herz für Jesus zu öffnen und seine Gnade und Liebe zu akzeptieren. Die Kernaussage ist, dass wir nicht durch unsere eigenen Bemühungen, sondern durch die Gnade Jesu Christi Erlösung finden. Das Lied wurde zur Einweihung einer neuen Kirche in Königsberg geschrieben und ist bis heute ein wichtiger Teil des Adventsliederschatzes. Es schlägt eine Brücke zwischen dem Alten Testament und der Weihnachtsbotschaft und erinnert uns daran, dass Gott zu uns kommt und nicht wir zu ihm.

Lydia Martens has been named a Beck's Player with Heart due to her dedication to her school, community, and the agriculture industry. To Lydia, agriculture means much more than planting crops. It bring her family closer together as they work side by side in the fields or around the farm. She says it teaches her the importance of teamwork and patience, and keeps them grounded in their values. Lydia participates in volleyball as the captain, basketball, and softball. She is also part of the National Honor Society, student council, FFA, peer tutoring, choir, and is a Choose to Be Nice Ambassador. In the UK, over 3 million people are vegetarian. That's 7% of the population.
