Covered In Pet Hair - A Boozy Pet Podcast - Pet Life Radio Original (PetLifeRadio.com)
In this episode, Isabel interviews Julie Posluns, Applied Animal Behaviorist and Founder of Cat School, an online training school where cats can learn fun and practical behaviors. Julie and Isabel play "Cat School" a game in which Julie imagines a typical day in a Pre-K class and swaps the kids out for cats. She tells Isabel what the cats would do if forced to adopt a school day as humans do. Unsurprisingly, the cats probably wouldn't be as cooperative as the kids. Despite cats' likely unwillingness to sit in a morning circle, Julie believes that all cats can benefit from training and enrichment, plus, she knows that training helps to strengthen the cat-human bond and can prepare our cats for real-world experiences. She also believes that online training is an excellent complement to in-person training, especially for cats. Don't miss this episode if you want to teach your cat some tricks, behavior modification, or have ever dreamt of walking your cat on a harness. EPISODE NOTES: Cat School
If you have a cat and a dog, should you try to train the cat? Can you even train cats? You sure can! And training both the cat and the dog can often make a huge difference in the quality of your pets' relationship. In hour 3, Chris talks about some crazy school stories, including a substitute who claims she was fired for not meowing back to a student who identifies as a cat, and a Michigan mother who claims there are Litter boxes in the non-binary bathrooms. In an award-winning career that has encompassed TV, film, stage and concert work around the globe, Betty Buckley is probably best known as the quintessential musical theatre actress. Whether she’s breaking your heart with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Memory” in her Tony-winning turn as Grizabella the Glamour Cat in CATS, bringing down the house with “The Writing on the Wall” in a gender-bending performance in THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, or simultaneously frightening and moving an entire audience as religious fanatic Margaret White in the cult-classic musical CARRIE, a Betty Buckley performance is one that remains indelibly etched into one’s mind and soul. Buckley’s film roles include Ms. Collins, the gym teacher, in Brian dePalma’s 1976 classic CARRIE, country singer Dixie Scott in Bruce Beresford’s TENDER MERCIES (which features her soul-piercing rendition of the Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe winning song “Over You”), and has regularly been featured in the films of M. Night Shyamalan. She has been seen as a guest star on dozens of popular TV series, was a regular for three years on HBO’s OZ, and also played the lead role of Abby Bradford for four seasons on the seminal 1970’s family drama EIGHT IS ENOUGH. Cocktails at Table 7- Inside New York’s Joe Allen is produced and hosted by Jason Woodruff, Dana Mierlak and Sean Kent, with music by James Rubio and logo and artwork design by Christina D’Angelo. The Producers would like to extend a special thank you to the owners of Joe Allen, Orso and Bar Centrale Restaurants.
In this episode, Stacy sits down with Julie Posluns, the founder and owner of Cat School, an online training school for cats that uses clicker training to teach fun and practical behaviors and strengthen the bond between cats and their human in the process. Julie, who is a trained animal behaviorist, worked entirely with dogs until a small black kitten showed up at her back door. The cat, now called Jones, convinced the humans and the dogs in the family that he should stay—and he soon showed an interest in the training Julie was doing with her dogs. Julie began training Jones as well, and the rest is history! Stacy and Julie talk about what clicker training is, what its benefits are, and how this kind of enrichment differs from other types. (Hint: This kind is good for both of you!) Julie explains that clicker training is based on positive reinforcement, and she talks about what her program consists of, how the plan works, and how it can work in different situations (training for fun vs. training for behavior medication, for instance). They also talk about how training can work with multiple cats, how it can work in shelter environments, and about training cats to wash on a leash/harness or ride in a backpack or stroller. To learn more (or to enroll), visit the Cat School website. You can also check out their Instagram page to see lots of fun videos, including a free tutorial on how to teach your cat to fist bump.
