Are you a versatile performer in the bedroom and onstage but tired of bottom barrel pastie tape? Try VERSE STICK, endorsed by P. No Noire and Faggedy Randy (patent pending). I got to chat with the burlesque power couple pre-BHoF about having ten (w)hole minutes onstage, reading the room and fist bumping bros, how to NOT fuck on the first date, the love language of sexy loogie voices, their next “only fans” adventure, and why creating diverse casting is not so much “rising to the challenge” as it is just, you know… EASY. In this conversation Briq House and Moonyeka share their perspective on Seattle Opera's La traviata. Speaking with Gabrielle Nomura Gainor, the two sex-positive artists and community leaders discuss the "fallen woman" archetype in Verdi's opera, the joy and challenges surrounding sex work—and other politics of pleasure for women and femmes–particularly QTBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous People of Color). Briq House has been featured in The Seattle Times, Time Magazine, and on the cover of The Stranger. She was honored in the Top 50 Most Influential Burlesque Performers in the World List (21st Century Burlesque Magazine). Then, Oscar winner Laura Dern joins me to talk about her latest film “The Son,” which is in theatres now. In it, she plays Kate, ex-wife of the Hugh Jackman character and the mother of a young man experiencing extreme depression. We'll also get to know Andrea Constand. Of the more than 60 women who publicly accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault, she is the only one to get a conviction. She joins me to talk about her pursuit for justice and healing and a new docu-series called “The Case Against Cosby.” Finally, we get to meet Lou Lou la Duchesse de Riere, an Indigenous burlesque performer from Quebec who was named No. 2 in the world by 21st Century Burlesque Magazine.

In today's episode I am talking to the international burlesque sensation Perle Noire. Among her many accolades, Perle has been named one of the world's top burlesque performers by 21st Century Burlesque Magazine for ten years in a row. After spending several years as a cast member in Dita Von Teese's stage show ‘Strip, Strip Hooray', Perle went on to complete a stint in Velvet – a musical starring Australian disco diva and superstar Marcia Hines at The Sydney Opera House.Perle continually challenges herself with new ventures, including performances with her award-winning dance company, The House of Noire and her new transformative Healing Through Seduction series. In 2020, she presented the world with The Noire Pageant, the only burlesque pageant dedicated to uplifting the BIPOC community through healing events. It was a true pleasure to talk to Perle as I caught up with her via zoom to hear more about her philosophy around healing through seduction and how she continues to push boundaries in her artform. Perle Noire, the Queen Mother of Burlesque was born to perform. Named one of the top performers in the world, she is truly a goddess. To watch her is an experience! She began singing, dancing and acting as a child when she landed a McDonald’s commercial and a role on the Cosby Show. In 2008, she burst onto the burlesque scene winning the Best Debut category during the annual Burlesque Hall of Fame weekend in Las Vegas. She has been named one of the world’s top five burlesque performers by 21st Century Burlesque Magazine three years in a row. After spending several years as a cast member in Dita Von Teese’s popular “Strip, Strip Hooray,” Perle went on to complete a stint in Velvet – a musical starring Australian disco diva and superstar Marcia Hines.  Perle has performed her signature blend of sultry, athletic and captivating dance in numerous venues throughout the world including the Crowne Casino in Melbourne, The Waltz in Tokyo, Teatro Circo in Madrid and the Koko in London. She has also graced stages in the Bahamas, Milan, Helsinki, Auckland, Sydney, New York, and Los Angeles. Drawing inspiration from the great Josephine Baker, Perle is also a multi-talented businesswoman who constantly challenges herself with new ventures including an upcoming line of cosmetics and a series of performance/dance classes known as Perlesque.  She is also a gifted instructor and her workshops sell out in a matter of hours. She encourages her followers and those attending her classes to lose the weight of self-doubt, distorted views of your power, and memories that no longer serve you. She encourages everyone to believe that glamour, opulence, and opportunities belong to you and to Stop downplaying your light, talent, and desires. She says she is paying respect to all the black women who went through the back door so she may sashay through the front.
