(The Real Life Sleeping Beauty) *** In the wilds of Australia, the persistence of Yowie folklore has endured for centuries, continuing into modern times with dozens of reported sightings and tales coming out of the area every year. (Yikes! A Yowie!) *** Imagine driving through a graffiti-stained, decaying tunnel late at night when your car suddenly breaks down, and you notice a shadowy figure in your back seat. This eerie experience is just one of the chilling legends surrounding the Sensabaugh Tunnel in Kingsport, Tennessee, a place known for its haunted history and ghostly encounters. Welcome to Our True Crime Podcast's original “12 Nightmares Before Christmas,” where we discuss a true crime story daily for the days leading up to December 24. Make sure to like, subscribe, and tune in each day.Day 6! We are halfway there! The revival was just getting started when 56-year-old farmer Rowland Stuart Taylor felt a wave of nausea and abdominal discomfort. Thinking it was just something he ate, Stuart fidgeted but wanted to stay for the revival. As the service went on, he began to feel worse and worse. He also didn't want to disappoint his girlfriend, 45-year-old Velma Barfield, by leaving, so he decided to go out to the truck to lie down for a while. When the revival ended, Velma returned to the truck and drove them home. She had to stop the vehicle at least once for Stuart to throw up on the side of the road. Assuming he had one of the many strains of influenza, Stuart asked a friend to care for his pigs “just until I get over this flu.” Stuart never got over the flu. He died two days later.Stuart had not died of natural causes. He'd been murdered by his sweet, unassuming girlfriend, Velma Barfield.Join Cam and Jen as they discuss "Bye Bye Velma: Death Row Granny".Thank you to our team:Written and researched by Lauretta AllenListener Discretion by Edward October from OctoberpodVHS https://www.youtube.com/c/octoberpodhomevideoExecutive Producer Nico Vitesse of https://theinkypawprint.comSources:https://www.amazon.com/Death-Sentence-Barfields-Crimes-Punishment-ebook/dp/B07W1PVKHXhttps://www.youtube.com/watchv=qDS_Pijlzx0&ab_channel=TheCrimeReelhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXHn2dqhLzM&ab_channel=FilmRiseTrueCrimehttps://www.youtube.com/watchv=ofdGA8yudqU&ab_channel=DeathRowExecutionshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velma_Barfieldhttps://exhibits.lib.unc.edu/exhibits/show/capital-punishment/biographies/barfieldhttps://murderpedia.org/female.B/b/barfield-velma.htm (your one-stop info dump on Velma)https://www.newspapers.com/image/401327868/?terms=Velma%20Barfield&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/494467203/https://www.newspapers.com/image/569891081/?terms=Velma%20Barfield&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/705107544/?terms=Velma%20Barfield&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/624508368/?terms=Velma%20Barfield&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/974782410/?terms=Velma%20Barfield&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/336246618/?terms=Velma%20Barfield&match=1https://www.newspapers.com/image/654819433/?terms=Velma%20Barfield&match=1https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/6786695/velma-barfieldhttps://exhibits.lib.unc.edu/exhibits/show/capital-punishment/biographies/barfield?fbclid=IwAR0YVx6zQ3G2es76SAetRKpOKosoo8AInhv7hKJutaUEGdZ6jHltvJasj0UThis show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3647242/advertisement

Hi Friends! Today on Murder, Mystery & Makeup, I wanted to talk about Margie Velma Bullard Barfield. Whew weee, she sure did do some damage for a long time. I believe all the fires, were her. All the husbands/boyfriends, were her. The people she took “care of”, yeah, I think she was responsible for all the chaos that was happening around her. Sad that it took so long for anyone to catch on. Love you so much and please be safe out there! Born in 1932, Velma Margie Barfield would grow up on a small farm right outside Fayetteville, North Carolina with 8 other siblings. Money was tight and her father was a raging, abusive alcoholic, so her childhood was less than picturesque. Velma would meet her first husband in high school, marry him and start a family and she thought things would improve as they had a great relationship. Soon though, bad things started happening and her husband would lose his life in a house fire. Depressed and on pain medication from some medical complications, she quickly became addicted to pills which made Velma make some questionable decisions. More bad things continued to happen, and it seemed like anyone she came into close contact with, other than her son and daughter, would get violently ill and die. Was it all just coincidence, or did Velma aide in their deaths?Listen to Tiffany tell this twisted tale of addiction, mental health struggles, and frequent death that would eventually land Velma on Death Row.Sourceswww.wikipedia.orgwww.murderpedia.orgwww.ncpedia.orgFacebook: Search Cola City CrimeInstagram: @ColacitycrimeEmail your listener stories and case suggestions: Colacitycrime@gmail.com

Velma Barfield is probably better known for her execution than for her murders. She became the first woman to be executed in North Carolina after the death penalty was reinstated in 1976. She was also the first woman to die by lethal injection in the United States.
Velma Barfield made international headlines when she became the first woman to be executed in America since 1962 and first since the re-introduction of the death penalty in 1976. She confessed to murdering 4 people, all with the motive of fraud, due to her drug addiction. However, it is speculated that she could have murdered over 7 people for the gain of money in order to purchase drugs. Click play to hear more of this chilling story in our second single scoop!
