Joe wasn't your average Joe - he wanted to be someone spectacular. Someone to be feared. He skipped class, stole cars, carried guns, and even managed to get a girlfriend named Esther. So when he saw the “E” ring he knew he had to have it - to give to his girlfriend. He leaned over and pulled it off the girl's lifeless hand. The girl that he and his friends had just murdered. Ghouls discuss the found footage conspiracy film, Devil's Pass which attempts to solve the Dyatlov Pass Incident in a rather creative and annoying way (and gives found footage films a bad name). Ghouls also solve the Dyatlov Pass Incident using weather science! This film is barely about avalanches but this episode is very much about them. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/the-ghouls-next-door/support
We are back! This time with movies that take place in cold AF territory. The SNOW. So we picked two movies this week that shot their movies in it. We kick it off with an underrated movie about the infamous REAL LIFE story of The Dyatlov Incident called DEVIL'S PASS (2013). Which is about about a college documentary team that retraces the steps of the fateful night of 9 Russian hikers in 1959 who went running out into the sub freezing temperatures in their socks after being scared by something and died. Then we take on a new movie that just released called WITCHES IN THE WOODS (2019) where another group of college kids out on a vacation of snowboarding get stranded in the New England woods. The local history of the town and the forest tear them apart.. one by one. ALL THIS WEEK! Check it out! What happened to the Soviet Hikers in the 1959 Dyatlov Pass Incident? In this week's episode, the 13th Floor Gang discusses some surprising theories and observations surrounding this immensely bizarre case.
One of the better horror movie's of the last 10 years; Devil's Pass is a good, nice play on the found-footage horror drama.
On January 23, 1959, nine people, seven men and two women, started on a 16-day trek across Russia's Ural Mountains. Little did they know, they were about to be a part of history for all the wrong reasons, as all nine were found dead under mysterious circumstances. Teodora Hadjiyska is one of the world's leading researchers on this case, as she takes us deep into the Devil's Pass.
Hey Gore-fam! This week we thought we'd take a dive headlong into the dizzying hand-held world of found footage horror to align with Found Footage Horror Week over on Instagram. Given that we're also fanatics of mysteries and unsolved crimes, we took to Amazon Prime and chose Renny Harlin's The Dyatlov Pass Incident (a.k.a Devil's Pass.) Along the way we talk about the untimely passing of effects legend John Carl Buechler, as well as what we've watched recently, including The Umbrella Academy and Await Further Instructions. We also take a heated detour into the Marvel fandom and get hyped for the upcoming Us. -Sarah & Phil.
For our last episode of 2018, we dove into YOU MIGHT BE THE KILLER. Do these Shudder exclusives live up to the hype? Or are they DOA? Our weekly staff picks include Anna and the Apocalypse, Terrified, All the Creatures Were Stirring, Christmas Evil, The Devil's Pass, Welcome Home, Venom, and FantasticLand by Mike Bockoven.

The solution to "Devil's Kidney Stone." In which Dan makes the mistake of thinking that, because Renny Harlin directed Devil's Pass, it would be crazy and weird, rather than draggy and significantly more boring than reading the Wikipedia page about the real Dyatlov Pass incident. Then, we forgo letters and recommendations to offer a condensed version of our usual Awards Floptacular, because no one (including us) really cared much about the Awards Floptacular anyway.
