A man, who was traumatized as a child during Christmas, experiences a mental break after being deceived at his work in a toy factory, goes on a killing spree around Christmas. Christmas Evil is not at all what we were expecting during our first watch. Expecting a horror slasher, this film is a character piece of a man, traumatized by Christmas during his youth, loosing his grip on reality. Brandon Maggart, does a great job portraying a man transforming into his own vision of what Santa should be after discovering Santa isn't real. While the movie has misses in developing the story, it does have some good acting performances as well as a crazy ending. Watch the movie and catch our review. Natalie and Arnold present their annual celebration of all things festive and frightful, with a Very Video Nasty Xmas that covers two of the films from that infamous list, THE DORM THAT DRIPPED BLOOD (1982), and CHRISTMAS EVIL (1980)! So bring a flashlight (it is DARK!), glue on your best Santa beard, and get ready to deck the halls while fleeing from a torch-bearing mob in this very merry episode of GHOULS IN THE HOUSE! And remember, when you're listening to this podcast, the only ghoul in the house...is YOU! NOTE: Arnold wanted to add that he thought the chimney sequence in CHRISTMAS EVIL was easily the most uncomfortable and suspenseful scene in the film. He forgot to say it while recording, and he just can't let things go, so there you have it. Show Music: "Cemetery Dance" by The Vivisectors. Send us a textHey Fearless Fans!! We've pulled another present from our goodie bag, because its the happiest time of the year! Merry Christmas!!!This week, Pete walks us through the 1980 film, Christmas Evil! The movie follows a deranged man named Harry Stadling, who takes it upon himself to act as his town's personal Santa Claus. This includes keeping a list of which kids are naughty or nice, and who deserves presents this holiday season, and who deserves to decapitations! Basically, its like a bloody Christmas version of Adam Sandler's Hubie Halloween.Join us as we discuss why you shouldn't spy on neighborhood children, the importance of therapy after a childhood trauma, and why Dale from The Walking Dead just can't catch a break. So string up the lights, gather round the fire, and remember: don't get too scared!
This week Bryan and Dave wind down the year and celebrate the holiday season with a look at a movie that can only be called horror in the most charitable of terms. Christmas Evil is the tale of two parties: Lewis Jackson, a director whose ideas were too weird for commercial Hollywood and a wall of exploitation producers who saw potential in his weird little character movie to be exploited in the wake of Halloween. The result is a movie that's more like Taxi Driver than Friday the 13th, a comedy so black that most people miss the goofs. But it's a wonderful piece of Holiday weirdness carried almost entirely on the shoulders of its star, Brandon Maggart. It is a movie so well-made and off-beat that it's a real shame that its director became so disenfranchised from the film making experience entirely that he never returned. What's up, dudes? Remember the cult classic “Christmas Evil?” Matt McGrath from Nostaljunk joins me to dissect it. It's a character study of one man's descent into madness. Harry is a scarred man. After witnessing Santa caress his mom in an inappropriate manner—not realizing it was his dad in costume—he has a mental break. Years later, the now adult Harry is obsessed with Santa, emotionally detached from his family, and promoted to toy factory manager. He spies on the neighborhood children to see who's naughty or nice. While at an office Christmas party, a company donation scam finally cracks him, and he dresses up like and mentally becomes Santa. He steals company toys and donates them to a home for handicapped children. Then he murders his greedy colleagues. Consequently he's chased by an angry mob, confronts his brother over his childhood trauma, and flees. His van falls off a bridge and…Toy soldier with actual bayonet? Check. Realistic Santa attire? Yep. Toy bag for suffocating wicked coworkers? Definitely! So paint a sleigh on your van and drive into this episode on “Christmas Evil!”Nostaljunk PodcastTwitter: @NostaljunkPodIG: @nostaljunkpodCheck us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Totally Rad Christmas Mall & Arcade, Teepublic.com, or TotallyRadChristmas.com! Happy Holidays from Bloodhaus! Today Josh and Drusilla are joined by Freaky and It's a Wonderful Knife writer Michael Kennedy to discuss the fever dream French Christmas film Deadly Games aka a lot of things. It's Popzara's Movie Time! Podcast, where our in-house movie nerds Ethan Brehm and Nate Evans take you on an unscripted journey yakking and chatting about some of their favorite movie moments and cinematic scenes, from past and present, presented without snark and snobbery for your listening pleasure. Wrapped under this year's podcast tree is our second Santa-themed holiday episode featuring two very different, yet oddly similar movies about men becoming Santa Clause. Parents should exercise caution before gathering the family around the television, however. First up is 1994's The Santa Clause, the John Pasquin-directed, Tim Allen-starring family film about a man tricked into becoming the literal Father Christmas. The guys dissect why this holiday favorite, which spawned a massively successful franchise that continues to this day, is darker and more satisfying than you remember. It's the rare Christmas entertainment where body horror and child custody take center stage, where farting reindeer and legalese reveal the true meaning of Christmas is about loving not who you are, but who you could be. Next is 1980's Christmas Evil (aka “You Better Watch Out”), Lewis Jackson's infamously miscategorized psychological examination of a man descending into madness that's more Taxi Driver than a typical Halloween-style slasher. Lighter on blood than the marketing suggested, Brandon Maggart wows in a stunning performance predated Joaquin Phoenix Oscar-winning turn in Joker, with beautifully shot locations that look better than most modern films. How many Christmas films can boast having a Frankenstein-like mob wielding actual torches?

The MRT crew reviews this quirky holiday horror flick about a Santa obsessed man (played by Fiona Apple's dad Brandon Maggart) who witnessed his mom and “Santa” getting frisky when he was a child, and now as an adult decides to become Santa to enact revenge to those on his naughty list. We also discuss our own memories of Santa, whether we ever tried to sneak a peek at our Christmas gifts, and the pros and cons of shopping online vs. in person.
You better watch out...he's made his list and he knows who is naughty and who is nice. This week we wrap up our holiday horror series with a classic killer Santa movie: CHRISTMAS EVIL. No less a luminary than John Waters calls this his favorite Christmas movie and its easy to understand why. With a gritty, 70s feel that recalls Taxi Driver, black humor, and truly remarkable performance that alternates between humanistic and unhinged rom Brandon Maggert as a man who only wants to be Santa. This one hits at the loneliness of the holiday, how the magic of Xmas can get snatched away, and why Santa can be a terrifying figure. Mike, Nichole and Brian had a blast talking about this one.
