It is worth seeing if you're into similar stuff like Lost Boys, What We Do in the Shadows and Bloodsucking Bastards? Is it too goofy and going to vary by crowd? Sometimes a classic just gets overlooked and buried in history. This is such a case. a comedy horror that is just well written in terms of banter, well shot in terms of kills, and just well cast. A vampire tears through an office leaving the office suckup and a few others to find a way to survive the ultimate downsizing. Also it stars Pedro Pascal without that terrible mando stach. We kick off with BURIAL, a film which really surprised me, although its premier at Frightfest may need to be taken with a grain of salt... HELLBENDER is the latest film from Shudder to be given a DVD release, and is about a teenage girl whose mother is a witch... ROOT LETTER is an independent mystery movie in which a young man tries to find out what happened to a pen-friend after she sends him a disturbing letter... Chris, Kelsey, and special guest Bob fill some squirt guns with holy water and take in a Tim Cappello concert on the beach. The Classic Film: The Lost Boys (1987) "After moving to a new town, two brothers discover that the area is a haven for vampires” (IMDb.com). We absolutely adore this movie and for good reason. It just so perfectly exemplifies a specific style from a specific time that makes Kelsey say, "They were right in the 80s." The Modern Film: Bloodsucking Bastards (2015) "A down-on-his-luck cubicle worker and his slacker best friend discover their new boss is a vampire who is turning their coworkers into the undead.” (IMDb.com). Bloodsucking Bastards is a terrific comedy trapped in the shell of a fairly okay movie. It's certainly not what you might call a great movie, but the moments where it approaches perfection make it worth your time. Brian joins Jennifer and David on a bridge to discuss the art of improv, Pack Theater in L.A., and what BOC has been up to during the pandemic. Brian James O'Connell is a working actor, writer, director, filmmaker and teacher in Los Angeles. After selling his feature film debut as a writer/director, KILLER VIEW (the only film shot on disposable video), he followed it up by directing the 35mm Southern indie comedy ANGRY WHITE MAN starring Matt Berry, Scoot McNairy, Steve Agee and Mary Birdsong. BOC (as his friends call him) is part of the improv powerhouse & comedy collective Dr. God, who delivered their first feature film project BLOODSUCKING BASTARDS in 2015, starring Fran Kranz, Pedro Pascal, Joey Kern, Joel Murray, and Emma Fitzpatrick, which O'Connell directed as well as co-writing the script with Dr. God. The film was the Opening Night Premiere at Slamdance in 2015 and is available now on Amazon Prime after it's 15 city theatrical run along with a two year run on Showtime. Dr. God's new animated series HELL DEN is currently available on SYFY Channel where they serve as the Creator, Executive Producers, Producers, Directors and Writers. Season 2 premiered in Fall of 2020 as part of TZGZ. With multiple projects in development, BOC is currently pitching his pilot THE ANARCHIST COOKBOOK (based on the IP of the same name) under Executive Producer Emmet McDermott (60 Second Docs). Please give him more stuff to do. If This Is True would like to introduce you to Brian James O'Connell. You might know him from his directorial success with the movie Bloodsucking Bastards, or his TV success with Hell Den on SYFY, or his improv success with Dr. God, iO West and the Pack Theater. I'll bet you didn't know that BOC is a fan of modern Roman history, went to college with Captain America, and thinks about improv ALL THE TIME (It's true, he does). We recorded this on Say Day and touched on the importance of appreciating one another. BOC apologizes for the quality of his voice. I apologize for my editing skills. Otherwise, it's a damn good episode! If This Is True appreciates YOU! It's the very 57th episode of Forsaken Cinema Podcast!!! This week, we sit our fine asses down to discuss the new John Krasinski joint “A Quiet Place 2”. And while neither of us thought it was really any better or worse than the first one, it does manage a “recommend” from both of your hosts for being a mostly entertaining PG13 monster flick, with only a couple of glaring plot holes, and maybe 1 or 2 head scratching character decisions. We also take a stroll down memory lane into the classic Dark Castle Entertainment film from 2001, “Thir13een Ghosts”!! And while we both are immensely entertained by this over the top, displaced-spiritual-energy-flick, we are NOT apologists. This movie is big, loud, flashy, pushy, and DUMB. But GODDAMMIT it's a good time! Anyways, this is kind of a weird episode with some excessive side-tractions (remember when Melissa said that?), lots of off topic discussion, and an intro about lawn mowing that goes on way too long… But we had tons of fun and we hope you freaks do too!!! ——— Also discussed: “Bloodsucking Bastards” 2015 “Jennifer's Body” 2009 “The Hills Run Red” 2009 “Skull: The Mask” 2021 (Shudder) ——— If you dig the show, PLEASE! Our Artist’s Brain interview series continues with the man, the myth, the legend - BOC. Brian James O’Connell is more than a staple in the world-wide improv community, he’s the ultimate ambassador for this art form we call home. BOC has directed several feature films, including Bloodsucking Bastards and Angry White Man, and he is one of the creators and stars of the animated series Hell Den on the Syfy channel. He’s an actor, writer, director, filmmaker, teacher, mentor, friend, and hella good improviser. In this episode, we talk about how BOC would start an improv theatre, how improv saved his life, what he learned from directing three feature films, and his "Hot Takes" about what is missing in the improv community. (He doesn’t let us off easy.) Follow Brian on instagram @B3oc and be sure to watch Hell Den on the SyFy Channel. If you enjoyed the podcast, would you please consider leaving us a review on Apple Podcasts/Spotify? It takes less than 60 seconds, and the reviews really help us move up the charts to expand this community even more. But please. No matter what. Do NOT post any bits in the review section. Seriously. And eventually we round things out by discussing this week's Sofa Theater feature: Hush. The 2016 movie about a deaf author alone in the woods being hunted by a deranged masked killer. And as we think of six new domains to claim just during this episode, we also mention... a study on working out, Oculus, living on a shoestring budget, horror Kick-Ass, The Innkeepers, a dyslexic moment, John Carpenter's The Thing, being predatory, Brainscan, Gerald's Game, Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor movies, Carrie, The Last House on the Left, sucks to be you Room 128, Milla Jovovich, cinematic compositions, nerd gym shoes, did you get frustrated, Marlee Matlin, a jacked-up methhead pony tail with half my face looking like I just got punched, genius dogs, A Clockwork Orange, I do do, Syracuse, #Methamphetamines, the damsels in distress, The Host, Bloodsucking Bastards, bullshit gore, you think about your muscles working out, you gotta diversify, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, zinc in your vag, Danse Macabre, enjoying the challenge of comedy, great trailer... movie sucks, you never know when you're going to need to load a crossbow, Trollhunter, horror/comedy is such a fine line to get right, Gisele Bündchen was sitting on it for 10 years, Jones the cat and we've been riddled with the Maggard/Cain. Strap in and get ready for another long one (that's what he said?). Taylor was absent for this episode. So in his stead, Tony's dad, John, returns to the show for the first time since Episode 16! As you might remember from that one, John has a lot to say, so we have a lengthy episode for you again. They stayed... mostly on topic. We start off with a fresh batch of Horror Business. In Real World Horror, tragedy strikes the horror world with the death of a legend, and a nutcase forces children to watch a movie about a nutcase. A surprising (see: disappointing) bit of casting news from the Ghostbusters set is explained. We cover sequel and remake news with updates on Trick 'r Treat 2, Jeepers Creepers 3, the Waxwork remake, and the former director of the IT adaptation speaks out. In typical Grave Plot fashion, we review two movies. First up is the sequel to the hugely popular film, Sinister. Aptly named... wait for it... Sinister 2. Does it live up to its predecessor? Next, we talk about the horror-comedy vamp flick, Bloodsucking Bastards. Did we laugh, or did we think it just sucked? (See what I did there?) Gather 'round, criss-cross applesauce, and hear all this and more on this exciting episode of The Grave Plot Podcast! P.S. Lately, it seems, it wouldn't be a GPP episode if there weren't some technical issues, so we apologize for the intermittent static. It cuts out about an hour or so in.

Pat has been building an amazing career over the years, appearing in Magnolia, Ghost World, Rescue Dawn as well as an impressive amount of television appearances. But in the last decade, he's moved into the leading man role in a terrific string of smaller films like The Great World Of Sound, Compliance, The Innkeepers and Cheap Thrills. We examine what's it's like to be a working actor in Hollywood as well as how to delve into some of the super dark subject matter he has in recent films.  Then, Pat joins us for this week's Sofa Theater feature: John Frankenheimer's film Seconds. A nightmarish science fiction story about changing your identity and starting your life over... if you can?  And as some of us barely survive the dreaded Pelvis Attack, we also discuss... Bloodsucking Bastards, A Clockwork Orange, getting cadavered, getting pelvised, a movie freak with my three brothers, a Faustian bargain, in the middle of the corn fields, dancing around to records, the hallway of doom, chopping Chris Evan's head off, stomping, wine, building a career, spilling coffee on yourself, making lateral moves, Rock Hudson, leading roles in smaller films,  a flaming ashtray, Sum 41, Captain America, Steppenwolf Theatre, playing the wolfman, I Walk the Line, Julianne Moore, reborns, melted through the toilet, that's the tragedy I think of most people... is they never really get to know each other... and as a result, they are never really in great contact or relationships with other people, being able to sit down and have a conversation with Jason Robards for just a few minutes, Tom Green waving at you, Marian Seldes, Twilight Zone, the John Hughes machine, Shaun of the Dead, winning two Academy Awards, being kept in a glass case, walking around with an oxygen tank, a weird dude snapping in my bathroom, Paul Thomas Anderson, real freedom, Craig Zobel, getting a call from a dead friend, not eating gluten, feels like a nightmare, being special, It feels that it's worked out the way it's supposed to, Simon Pegg, a throbbing hip, just pulling faces, saying words wrong, run through the gamut of what my life experience has been, John Randolph, The Gypsy Moths, there's only so much time... and you could really waste it, the truth about who you are, Mark Duplass, eating applesauce, Paul Newman, learning how to reel yourself back in, my cat kept getting in the way and making dinosaur noises.  Spoiler Alert: We go in detail on John Frankenheimer's "Seconds". So go watch it beforehand. "It's one of the great gifts, that I get to do as an actor, is I get to go and peer into the abyss."
