Join the Bad Girl, The One and Only Playa, and The Stars, as they take a look at the obscure but highly controversial case of Diane Schuler. On July 26, 2009, Schuler, a 36-year-old doting mother of two young children, took a wrong turn on the Taconic State Parkway in Westchester County, N.Y., and killed eight people, including herself, her daughter and three nieces. Toxicology tests conducted by the medical examiner revealed that Schuler was heavily intoxicated with both alcohol and marijuana at the time of the crash. Her husband, Daniel Schuler, consistently denied that she used drugs or alcohol "excessively" and made multiple national media appearances to defend his late wife and call for further investigation into other possible medical causes for her erratic driving. An independent investigator hired by the Schuler family obtained DNA testing and toxicology re-testing of Schuler's samples, and confirmed the results of the original testing. But what's the REAL story? Tune in on Monday, April 14th at 7 EST for this very tragic and dubious case!
Jump ahead using timestamps (12:24) - Madeline Kingsbury Update (13:43) - Diane Schuler In 2009, Diane Schuler was returning to her New York home after a camping trip with five young children in the minivan she was driving - her two children and three nieces. She took the kids to McDonalds for breakfast and witnesses said the family seemed fine and nothing was amiss. Diane made another stop at a gas station looking for a specific over-the-counter pain medication, but the store didn't carry it. After this, Diane pulled over multiple times and was seen hunched over appearing sick outside of the vehicle. One of her nieces called their father and said, ‘There's something wrong with Aunt Diane.' Family members told Diane to stay where she was, but Diane continued the drive regardless. She drove the wrong way onto the busy Taconic State Parkway and struck another vehicle head-on at a high rate of speed. The crash became known as the worst fatal motor vehicle accident in Westchester County. 8 people were killed, including Diane, her daughter and all of her nieces. An empty bottle of vodka was found in the wreckage of the vehicle and Diane's BAC was reported to be 0.19%. She also had high levels of THC in her system and was suspected to have smoked marijuana as recently as 15 minutes prior to the collision. Diane's husband remains adamant that driving under the influence is not what caused the accident and believes Diane suffered a medical emergency. Join us on Patreon for exclusive, ad-free content. The toxicology report showed she consumed a large amount of alcohol prior to the accident, but her family insists something else was the cause. By all accounts Diane Schuler was the perfect PTA type mom. Anyone who knew Diane always wondered how she found the time to do everything she did. Diane was the main source of income in her family, but she still found the time to be super mom, outdoing herself for all of the holidays, and her children; Bryan (5) and Erin (2) never had so much as a hair out of place. So, what happened on July 26th of 2009, when Diane drove directly into oncoming traffic for 1.7 miles with her 2 children in the car, as well as her brothers 3 small children? What would the toxicology show? It would go against everything, that those close to her thought that they knew. It's the very movie that inspired this great (ahem) podcast, a movie that has been discussed at excruciating length throughout the bulk of our 15-year friendship, but ultimately a movie that we said we would never cover...until now. After almost two years of weighing in on topics we had no business commenting on and publicly humiliating ourselves in the process, we finally feel like we are ready to address one of the heaviest-hitting documentaries known to HBO: There's Something Wrong With Aunt Diane. In 2009, supermom Diane Schuler packed up her two children along with her three nieces into her minivan after a weekend camping trip and drove 80mph into oncoming traffic until she would make a violently fatal oncoming collision that would kill her, her daughter, her three nieces, and three other men. After her death, a toxicology report would reveal that she was--for lack of better term--cross-faded to the highest degree. While this may seem like a tragic case of reckless drunk driving, her remaining family refuses to believe it could be as simple as that, going on the media warpath to clear Diane's name in the eyes of their community. Join us as we dissect everything we know about this case, drawing our own conclusions, and even managing to have some LoLs where there none to be had. Also, drink every time Jen accidentally refers to Diane as "Danielle." Tune in!
On July 26, 2009, an SUV driving the wrong way on a busy New York highway collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle, resulting in a devastating crash that took the lives of eight people- including four children. The circumstances leading up to the crash and the autopsy results that were released shortly after revealed a devastating truth about the SUV's driver, Diane Schuler. Twelve years after the crash, many questions still remain: was it a horrible accident, a planned murder-suicide or something else entirely? If you or someone you know is struggling with a mental health or substance use issue, it's never too early or too late to seek help. In this week’s episode, we discuss Diane Schuler, whose car crash killed her and her family. But how did it happen and was she at fault? We also discuss Vincent Van Gogh’s suicide, and how recent development may show that it was a murder. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/dose-of-deception/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dose-of-deception/support

On July 26, 2009, Diane Schuler was seen driving southbound on the northbound lane of the Taconic Parkways. This would last for nearly 2 miles before she ultimately got into a car crash killing herself, her daughter, her three nieces, and three other men in the oncoming vehicle. What caused Diane to do this? Was she in the right state of mind? This took place over a decade ago and while it is considered a solved case, it is still highly controversial and debated today. So let's talk about it. Be sure to subscribe and follow me on social media @somuchcrimepod IG: http://instagram.com/somuchcrimepod Email me at: somuchcrimepod@gmail.com
On July 26, 2009, a mother and her 2 children and 3 young nieces were driving home from a weekend of fun and frolics at a campground in Parksville NY. Coming home was to be nothing more than a routine drive back to her home in Long Island, but then the unthinkable happened. For reasons that might never truly be known Diane got onto the Northbound entrance of the Parkway going in the opposite direction and proceeded to drive for 1.7 miles at a high rate of speed, ultimately crashing into another vehicle, killing all of the occupants in that car as well as everyone in her car, except her son Bryan, who was to be the only survivor. It is a heavily covered tragedy that has been famously documented in a number of media outlets, most famously in the documentary "There's something wrong with Aunt Diane."What could have happened to cause such a level headed, smart, caring mother, wife and friend to veer so out of control? The Right Shoe takes you there and examines that horrific day...bringing forth a number of possibilities to try and untangle the unimaginable, making sense of something that never will...Also stated in this podcast Dianes BAC was “ 0.19 NOT 1.09” I regret the error.
This weeks episodes explores the Diane Schuler and the tragic 2009 Taconic State Parkway Crash leading people to ask "What happened to Aunt Diane?"?

Oxygen starts 2018 with Final Appeal, which is basically MTV's Unlocking The Truth with different personnel and slower pacing. Did Patty Prewitt kill her husband? What's going on with the threatening phone calls? And was key evidence seriously just sitting in a sheriff's office storage locker for nearly 35 years? We had a lot of questions about the Prewitt case, but not nearly as many as we still have after we've each watched legendarily unsettling HBO doc There's Something Wrong With Aunt Diane several times. What exactly prompted supermom and cable exec Diane Schuler to down 10 shots and drive the wrong way on a highway? How does her avenging sister-in-law get her hair to do that thing it does? And is the fact that we'll never know for sure what makes this case so compelling? Like Loni Coombs says up top, sometimes you don't get answers, but we're asking anyway in the latest The Blotter Presents.
