Do you know the difference between your guts and balloon animals? Organs are ever-so slightly more flame resistant! On today's episode:  you'll learn how to squeeze every penny out of a beloved animal corpse; I'll accidentally teach you why fire is the best way to get rid of leaves, or a body; and you'll learn the surprisingly simple thing you should do if you found yourself full-bodied origamied into debris. And if you were listening to this as a Patreon supporter, you get to enjoy an additional 8 minutes where we discuss: two warm up disasters that lead to this one; how close medicine cabinets used to be narcotic liquor cabinets; the incredible fallout of trying to kill people on Twinkies; and the story of high fallutin' wild west rodeo “war hero” Buffalo Bill Cody I'm quick to point out to listeners that I don't like doing episodes where children or animals are hurt, and I'm happy to report the only things dying in this episode are 86 fully grown adults! (And a few animals, I'm sorry, it happens). However, at the very end of this episode, I really let it go to hell. First I tell you about an elephant that unplugged itself and created a minor panic that my parents may or may not have named my sister after – immediately followed by a barrage dog, bird, car and plane noises all competing to make it unlistenable, but I did it for a very good reason as you will see. Without getting too deeply into it, I have said pretty much since the beginning of this show that we need to keep as many listeners alive and safe as we can. A lot of times, that just means talking. If you or someone you know is in a bad place and struggling, please don't hesitate to reach out. We do our damndest to put a smile on some pretty awful stuff, but a face can only stretch so much. Please take care of yourself. In March, Canada will expand medically assisted dying to people with mental illness as a sole condition. This will make the country's euthanasia law one of the most liberal in the world – just seven years after assisted dying first became legal.A parliamentary committee has been hearing from experts since April about what needs to happen to make the right to die safe for all Canadians, and The Globe's Erin Anderssen has been following the emotionally charged testimony. If you are having thoughts of suicide, call Kids Help Phone at 1-800-668-6868 or Crisis Service Canada at 1-833-456-4566, or visit crisisservicescanada.ca.Questions? Patricia or Patty as we know her is the President and CEO of Sproule Consulting, Executive Director with Synergy, an amazing advocate for youth in Chestermere. Hanna Mughal, University Student Research and Synergy employee and long time advocate for youth in Chestermere. We chat with Patty and Hanna about the need to listen and ask questions on youth safety and how to best serve the physical, emotional, social and mental health well being of the young people in our city. The need comes out of a response to a tragic suicide of a local youth and this group of community leaders were desperate to prevent this from happening again. Patty and Hanna share with us the process and their heart break and walk us through the survey results.  The data may be specific to Chestermere, the common thread of challenges for our teenagers affects all of our neighbourhoods. Unpacked is a podcast exploring life as messy people. When you have experienced sexual abuse in childhood, it has impregnated all aspects of the mind. That is my experience. And, it comes back anytime you choose to get out of your comfort zone and expand your wings in life; the paradigm of fear will show up. And this is when it is important to dare to communicate my needs. So, after years of celibacy, I decided to get out of my comfort zone and be on a dating app…. This week we're talking about self-care and burnout, and that means difficult conversations regarding mental health, self-harm, suicide, and what it looks like to ask for help.
