I metalåret 1987 stod den på både heavy-hits og benhård metal: på den ene side poppet metalrock som Def Leppard og megasællerten “Hysteria”, og det nye Whitesnakes “1987” album. På den anden side hårdføre bands som de danske thrash-konger Artillery og dødsmetal-pionererne Death. Sat lidt på spidsen, selvfølgelig, for der var også de bands, som hverken var det ene eller det andet; eksempelvis Guns n' Roses og deres gedigne gennembruds-debutalbum “Appetite For Destruction” og King Diamonds fuldendte metalværk “Abigail”. Og så bød 1987 også på stor international opmærksomhed på andre danske og delvist danske bandprojekter som Pretty Maids, White Lion og Metallica. Metalåret 1987 gennemgås af Jens "Jam" Rasmussen, studievært, og det faste og fornemme triumvirat af studiegæsterne Steffen Jungersen, Michael Stützer Hansen og Michael Denner. Nedslagspunkter: - Det hårdt rockende metalår 1987 må nødvendigvis bydes velkommen af Guns N' Roses og “Welcome To the Jungle”. Samme Motörhead, som sprængte samtlige volumeskalaer ved deres koncertbesøg. - Jungersen, Stützer og Rasmussen tager den decibel-blæsende tur tilbage til legendariske Saga i 1987. København, hvor også Manowar skruede op. - Vi fortsætter til Sagas genbo og “lillebror” Carlton, hvor studieværten headbanger ind i sin makkers hoved til showet med Helloween, Running Wild og Overkill, og rammes af en stagedivers militærstøvler til showet med Artillery og Destruction samme sted. YEAH! - Michael Stützer fokuserer mest på sit guitarspil og sit band, hvilket resulterer i det andet Artillery album, “Terror Squad”, som fører an i den europæiske thrash metal-liga sammen med Kreator og førnævnte Destruction. - I januar ‘87 genoptager Metallica deres Europa-turné. Først i Falkoner Teatret, København, og dagen efter i Holstebro Hallen. Senere på året udkommer bandets første indspilning med bassisten Jason Newsted, cover-EP'en "Garage Days The 5,98 Dollar EP". - Fuld smæk på Bay Area-scenen, hvor Exodus udsender album nr. 2 “Pleasures of the Flesh”, Testament deres debutalbum "The Legacy" og Death Angel deres debut “The Ultra-Violence”. Sidstnævnte med en chokerende optræden på hovedscenen på årets Roskilde Festival. - På østkysten rykker Anthrax med “Among The Living”, og der tærskes løs fra Brasilien til Birmingham. Fra Sepultura til Napalm Death. Og i Tampa Bay, Florida udsender Death deres genredefinerende debut “Scream Bloody Gore”. - Michael Denner dukker op i studiet, hvor han og Jungersen tager pulsen på årets danske/dansk-relaterede udspil fra White Lion, Pretty Maids og Denners eget King Diamond, der udsender deres episke hovedværk “Abigail”. Chris and Simon hit the road with tales of spectral travelers: headless motorcyclists, driverless hearses, ghostly coaches, and hitchhikers who vanish mid-ride. Highway hobgoblins leap into passing carriages and crossroads—where suicides were buried—are haunted by the devil. Chris steers the conversation to carriages as omens of death, while Simon says it's his way or the highway, as the duo bicker over paths. Chris reveals how she almost became a Canadian road ghost on her vintage BMW R60/2. Simon maps out ghost coach routes, Chris tells of some terrifying first-hand experiences of phantom hitchhikers and the two finally agree on the uncanny habit of road ghosts in always keeping one step ahead. Nur ein Jahr später kam dann "Oops!... I Did It Again" raus. Der Plan für das Album – der Titel der Platte verrät es – war wieder der gleiche wie beim Debüt: Die Spitze der Charts erobern! Ganz bis nach oben hat sie es bei uns nicht geschafft, es wurde "nur" Platz zwei der Albumcharts, aber trotzdem, für "Oops!... I Did It Again" hagelt es Platin- und sogar Diamantauszeichnungen. 18 Wochen lang hält sich das Album (Quelle: Media Control) bei uns in den Charts. Das zweite Album ist für junge Künstler und Künstlerinnen oft das schwierigste, denn damit entscheidet sich oft, ob das Popsternchen am Himmel verglüht ist oder ob man sich im Popbusiness etablieren kann. Britney Spears hat sich mit "Oops!... I Did It Again" für viele Jahre ein Fundament im Musikgeschäft gegossen. Und mit diesem Album passiert noch mehr bei Britney Spears: Sie vollzieht einen Imagewandel – vom braven Schulmädchen und ehemaligen Mitglied des Micky-Maus-Klub hin zum sexy Popstar. Der Erfolg von "Oops!... I Did It Again" ist aber natürlich nicht alleine der Verdienst von Britney Spears selbst. An dem Album haben fast 100 Menschen aus der Musikwelt mitgearbeitet. Die haben seit Ende der 1990er unglaublich viele Songs für große Popkünstler geschrieben und auch produziert. Neben Britney Spears zum Beispiel auch für die Backstreet Boys, Pink, Katy Perry, Céline Dion, Justin Timberlake, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande und noch viele mehr. Insgesamt 27 Nummer-1-Hits gehen auf die Kappe von Songwriting- und Produktionstalent Max Martin. Dabei sind die Popsongs die er schreibt von der Harmonie meistens sehr einfach gehalten. Zu dem Phänomen Britney Spears gehört aber viel mehr als nur die produzierte Hochglanz-Popmusik, bei der Britney selber lediglich die Interpretin und Figur des Ganzen ist. Neben der Musik, es geht zum Beispiel auch ums Tanzen und die speziellen Moves, die die Teenies aus den Musikvideos nachahmen konnten. Mit ihrer Musik hat Britney Spears viele von den jungen Popkünstlerinnen beeinflusst, die heute in den Charts sind. As well as the indigenous communities that live within the forest regions and it also threatens all of us around the world. A common phrase we hear these days is: what goes on in the Arctic doesn't stay in the Arctic. We also know that what goes on in Antarctica does not stay in Antarctica. It is the same for the Amazon. If it is allowed to collapse – and this is the policy trajectory Brazil is on – then the outcome will be catastrophic for the global climate system. Two years ago I interviewed a Chinese climate scientist, professor Jingfang Fan, working with the Potsdam Institute, who identified a teleconnection between heat from the burning Amazon and the Tibetan Plateau. The transported heat to the Tibetan Plateau, via stratospheric jets, is accelerating the melt of the ice in a region often referred to as the third pole. The heating of the Amazon directly threatens the water security of 1.5 billion people on the other side of the world.To bring us up to speed on the conflicts of interest between what the Brazilian President, Lula da Silva, says is policy and the projects he is green lighting, is journalist Monica Piccinini. Monica and her colleagues are covering these issues in depth and as the spotlight is shot on Brazil for COP30 in Belem, a city within the Amazon region, we get a glimpse of what is really going on. Fifty years ago, in the fall of 1974, Bon Scott and AC/DC joined forces. They began building the foundation for what would go on to become one of the world's biggest rock and roll bands. Though AC/DC are one of the most revered and successful bands in the history of rock n roll, in 1979 they hadn't cracked the Top 100 in the US. The killer riffs laid down by Malcolm Young had gained them a strong following in Europe and their native Australia but they had yet to breach the great big U-S-of-A. So in 1979 they brought in a new producer, Robert John "Mutt" Lange to give them an edge. And though they were all skeptical after giving Eddie Kramer a shot, once Mutt showed them he knew how to sing, how to get the most out of Angus's guitar and how to put together songs, they were all on board.
