Croissants as a starter? No issue whatsoever. Jordan Stephens is a musician, actor, presenter, podcaster and writer, who arrives at Dish off the back of an incredible year, full of achievements and firsts. He chats to Angela and Nick about the paperback release of his thought-provoking memoir, Avoidance, Drugs, Heartbreak and Dogs, a personal story of self-acceptance. Alongside events and talks to promote the book, Jordan has had a busy 12 months, making his theatre debut in Entertaining Mr Sloane, joining the hit podcast Miss Me? as its new host and presenting his first documentary for Channel 4. He also returned to where it all started with Rizzle Kicks, who released their first album in 12 years alongside a UK tour and a performance at Glastonbury. Angela serves up a warming dish of saffron & cardamom chicken with cranberry salsa, paired with a glass of Domaine Du Vieux Vauvert Vouvray. That's preceded by a cup of Earl Grey tea and a croissant, which immediately showcases Jordan's passion for food and ranking systems. Jordan's girlfriend is friend-of-the-show Jade Thirlwall, so we get an even deeper understanding of her love of roasts and their plans for Christmas. We also hear how food brought Jordan one-step closer to his dream of making music, and there's a return to our discussion on pet names. Please let us know if your dog is called Susan. Ado (33) and Gabby (32) are exhausted by a cycle they can't seem to escape: getting into credit card debt, paying it off, and then ending up right back where they started. Now, with $44,000 in credit card balances, student loans on both sides, and an $1,800 monthly daycare bill, they feel one setback away from losing everything. Ado's avoidant, live-in-the-moment approach clashes with Gabby's desire for structure and long-term security. Both come from financially chaotic childhoods, and those old patterns are replaying in their marriage. They dream of moving to Europe and building stability for their young daughter—but can they break the cycle that's defined their entire relationship? This episode asks: What will it take for them to finally stop the spiral and create a plan that lasts? In this episode we uncover: • Why Ado and Gabby keep finding themselves back in credit card debt • How their “dance” of overspending, working extra, and then trying to catch up has cost them thousands • The emotional toll on Gabby as she tries to break a cycle that feels unsustainable • Why Ramit pushes them to examine their spending through the lens of their daughter watching and learning their habits • Taking apart their monthly budget line by line • The $170 date nights, lattes, Costco trips, and Target runs that add up • Gabby's realization that overspending isn't just about Ado • Ado's upbringing as a Bosnian refugee, and how frugality, scarcity, and parental sacrifice shaped his desire to enjoy life • How childhood experiences continue to shape Gabby's budgeting, anxiety, and need for security today • How both partners absorb social norms around spending and treat exhaustion as a justification for impulse purchases • The truth about using their savings account as a checking account • The staggering $3,075/month they spend on debt payments • Their dream of moving to Europe being pushed back year after year • The emotional rupture of realizing one missed paycheck could destabilize everything they've built Chapters: (00:00:00) “We never tell ourselves no” (00:17:24) “It's not just about paying off debt” (00:33:21) Ramit breaks down their numbers (00:48:21) “I feel like it gives me comfort” (01:02:26) “Money was a weapon” (01:12:53) “Denial lasts a week, vision lasts a lifetime” (01:32:00) “Nobody making this much should have credit card debt” (01:36:45) Where are they now? At 13, Kate Reid already knew exactly where she was headed: a career in Formula 1 and a life lived at full throttle. But after earning a degree in aerospace engineering and taking up a coveted position at one of the top F1 teams in the UK, she discovered that the reality didn’t match what she’d dreamed. So, she made a swerve no one expected: to forge a career in pastry. With her Melbourne-born bakery Lune Croissanterie now famous worldwide, Reid sits down to reflect on her unique path, from initially pursuing aerospace engineering at RMIT University, to following her lifelong passion for F1 racing, to finding fame as the mastermind behind ‘the best croissant in the world’ (The New York Times). Join Reid as she discusses perfection, obsession and making her own kind of success story, with host Alice Zaslavsky. After a run in theaters, the plan is to release it on both traditional streaming services and gaming platforms like PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. Former U.S. Senator Jack Danforth joins the Chuck ToddCast for a candid and sweeping conversation about the crisis inside the Republican Party and the decay of American politics. Danforth explains why he’s devoted his later years to trying to rehabilitate the GOP—even as he admits the effort may be futile—and argues that Congress has devolved into a stage for self-promotion rather than a forum for legislating. He and Chuck explore how weak parties coexist with fierce partisan loyalty, how smartphones and grievance politics have poisoned public discourse, and why the joy has drained from public service. Danforth reflects on the GOP’s transformation from the “family party” into one defined by division, how Christians have been pushed into a persecution mindset, and why Trump has inflicted deeper damage on the country than any single figure in U.S. history. The conversation turns to the future: whether leaders like James Lankford can spark a moral revival within the GOP, what true conservatism should stand for after being hollowed out by MAGA, and why Republican voters deserve a candidate who actually reflects traditional conservative principles. Danforth and Chuck also dig into constitutional reform, the filibuster, the politicization of the judiciary, and Congress’s abdication on major issues like Social Security and Medicare. Ultimately, Danforth makes the case that America must rediscover kindness, character, and a sense of shared identity if it hopes to govern itself the way the founders intended. On this episode of the Chuck ToddCast, Chuck breaks down Donald Trump’s increasingly brazen behavior — from his overtly racist comments about Somalis to his dehumanizing rhetoric that can incite real-world violence — and examines why so many Americans have become numb to it. He explores how the erosion of shame has stripped the public of a key accountability tool, how Trump has mainstreamed kleptocracy and mob-style politics, and why even many Republicans are uneasy with his drug trafficker pardon and his abuse of the presidential pardon power more broadly. Chuck also details the administration’s reported strong arming of corporate mergers, the normalization of corruption, and the role of media fragmentation — amplified by Trump and Fox News — in enabling behavior that would spark impeachment calls if committed by any Democrat. From national security risks to America’s deteriorating reputation as a rule-of-law nation, Chuck traces how Trump’s conduct has reached unprecedented levels while the country struggles with “Trump fatigue” heading into the next election. Then, former U.S. Finally, he answers listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment and gives his college football preview/rant. Go to https://getsoul.com & enter code TODDCAST for 30% off your first order. Entrepreneur, investor, and former “Shark Tank” star Matt Higgins joins the Chuck ToddCast for a wide-ranging conversation on ambition, politics, media, and the rapidly accelerating drone arms race. Higgins reflects on his rise from humble beginnings to serial entrepreneurship, why highlighting adversity can sometimes unintentionally promote victimhood, and how government should focus on leveling the playing field with empathy—not bureaucracy. He also explains why America is undergoing a political realignment and how leaving politics reshaped his view of its inherent narcissism. From the personalization of media to the implicit bias baked into journalism, Higgins warns about how online life can warp our sense of reality and why LinkedIn has succeeded by avoiding the toxicity of other platforms. The discussion then turns to the future of warfare, where drones have transformed the battlefield and triggered the most significant arms race since the nuclear age. Higgins breaks down how the Ukraine war changed everything, why the U.S. is dangerously dependent on Chinese drone technology, and how difficult it will be to build a domestic drone industry without key components like magnets. He also outlines what a modern 9/11-style attack might look like, why America still isn’t prepared to defend public spaces from drone terrorism, and the urgent lessons policymakers should take from past failures. The episode wraps with a detour into the NFL: what makes a great owner, why inherited wealth doesn’t equal success, and why both New York football teams continue to puzzle fans and analysts alike. In this episode, Chuck Todd breaks down the surprising Democratic overperformance in Tennessee’s TN-07 special election and what it signals about a rapidly shifting political landscape. From early cracks in Trump’s coalition to the GOP narrowly avoiding a full-scale collapse in a district they should have won easily, Chuck explains why this political environment is inching toward a Democratic “wave.” He digs into why Aftyn Behn’s imperfections didn’t stop her from overperforming, why Republicans can’t replicate this win in dozens of upcoming races, and how establishment ties have become toxic for candidates in Trump’s GOP. With ACA subsidies, tariffs, and Venezuela emerging as major vulnerabilities—and Trump issuing weekly, indefensible pardons—Chuck argues we may be witnessing the end stages of the Trump era. Plus, he makes the case that Democrats’ Senate prospects are stronger than people realize, especially in an environment defined by high Democratic enthusiasm and a struggling economy. Finally, Chuck gives his ToddCast Top 5 at-risk Senate seats in a “blue wave” election and answers listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment. Then, entrepreneur, investor, and former “Shark Tank” star Matt Higgins joins the Chuck ToddCast for a wide-ranging conversation on ambition, politics, media, and the rapidly accelerating drone arms race. Finally, Chuck gives his ToddCast Top 5 at-risk Senate seats in a “blue wave” election and answers listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment. On today’s Chuck ToddCast, editor of The Dispatch Sarah Isgur joins Chuck for a sweeping conversation about the Supreme Court, constitutional design, and the modern dysfunction of Congress. Sarah argues that SCOTUS is the only institution still operating as the founders intended—and with two major cases on the docket, the Court could soon reshape the balance of power between the executive and legislative branches. She and Chuck examine how the activist class has abandoned Congress, why long-term challenges like climate change require legislation rather than court battles, and how a dramatically expanded House—potentially 1,200 members or more—could restore true representation. They dig into how the collapse of traditional parties, the rise of communications-focused lawmakers, and the outsize influence of small states have all warped American governance. The conversation then widens into history, culture, and political “what-ifs”—from Ken Burns’ Revolutionary War documentary to the chaotic post-Lincoln era, to the tantalizing possibility that a surviving President Garfield might have accelerated civil rights by a century. Chuck and Sarah compare Obama to Chester Arthur, debate whether Democrats learned the wrong lessons from Trump, and revisit the alternate timelines of Chris Christie, Carly Fiorina, and the Tea Party. They close with a provocative question: Should the DOJ be structurally separated from the executive branch? And, more fundamentally, should it be far easier to amend the Constitution for a modern nation of 300 million people? Go to https://getsoul.com & enter code TODDCAST for 30% off your first order. This week’s episode of The Chuck ToddCast dives into the full spectrum of Donald Trump’s political chaos — from a deadly Venezuela boat strike that jolted Congress awake to an explosive shooting in Washington, D.C., where Trump delivered the most divisive response imaginable. Chuck breaks down how the shooter’s surprising CIA ties, Trump’s immediate “blame game,” and his increasingly politicized rhetoric toward the military risk putting service members in harm’s way. He examines Trump’s contradictory foreign policy moves, including pardoning a cocaine-trafficking former Honduran president and a billionaire fraudster, all while saber-rattling toward Venezuela and relying on Roger Stone as his unofficial “pardon broker.” With Republicans bracing for a wave of resignations and watchdog committees gearing up for investigations, Chuck argues that the founders never intended the pardon power to be used this way — and that a constitutional fix may now be essential. Then, editor of The Dispatch, Sarah Isgur joins Chuck for a sweeping conversation about the Supreme Court, constitutional design, and the modern dysfunction of Congress. On today’s Chuck ToddCast, Chuck breaks down why Marjorie Taylor Greene’s resignation is less an isolated drama and more a warning sign that Trump’s once-tight MAGA coalition is splintering. From Speaker Mike Johnson taking cues directly from Trump to a wave of looming GOP retirements, Chuck explains why Republicans may face a bleak 2026. He also digs into Trump’s mixed economic record, his unexpected openness to extending ACA subsidies, and the widening rift between Republicans over Ukraine, where a new peace proposal appears to reflect more of Kyiv’s asks than Moscow’s. With Europe carrying most of the burden and Trump seen abroad as a lame duck, Chuck argues that MAGA may be reaching the end of its political shelf life as fractures emerge across every major wing of the coalition. Finally, Chuck gives his ToddCast Top 5 Thanksgiving Dishes, previews a pivotal weekend in college football and answers listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment. Sports & political commentator Clay Travis joins Chuck Todd for a candid conversation that spans the worlds of politics, sports, and media. They explore the shifting boundaries between culture and athletics, the pressure of serving a politically-charged audience, and what Clay learned from stepping into Rush Limbaugh’s former timeslot. Clay discusses the importance of distinguishing fact from opinion, the challenges of modern political incentives, and how law school shaped his worldview. The two also talk about the realities of online hostility, audience expectations, and Clay’s belief that influence in media can outweigh influence in elected office. The episode also digs deep into college football: conference realignment, the CFP committee’s biases, southern schools’ growing appeal, and how cultural and political trends—from Gaza protests to regional identity—shape the sport’s landscape. Clay and Chuck debate how to fix the playoff system, what makes college football uniquely personal for fans, and which major sports league Nashville could attract next. Clay closes by sharing the presidential contenders he wishes would run in 2028 and why treating political opponents like rival sports fans could be a healthier way forward. Chuck Todd unpacks a seismic moment in Republican politics: Marjorie Taylor-Greene’s break from Donald Trump and her abrupt resignation from Congress. He traces how the split—months in the making—reveals deep fractures inside the “America First” movement, with MTG positioning herself as the true-believer successor to the Bannon wing while accusing both parties of fueling a self-serving “political industrial complex.” Chuck explains why her departure signals growing disillusionment among Trump’s base, how job displacement and economic anxiety are reshaping the electorate, and why MTG’s political instincts make her far more formidable than her critics admit. Then he turns to new confusion surrounding the administration’s Ukraine peace proposal—where even Republicans like Marco Rubio appear uneasy—and how Trump’s handling of Venezuela risks alienating Latin American partners and setting U.S. diplomacy back decades. Finally, Chuck hops into the ToddCast Time Machine to revisit the year America had TWO Thanksgivings, answers listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment and recaps the weekend in college football. Then, author Wright Thompson joins Chuck Todd to discuss his new book The Barn and the enduring struggle to tell the stories of civil rights in America. Wright delves into the history of Emmett Till, the ongoing battle over how Black history is taught in the South, and the limitations of projects like 1619 in capturing the full scope of systemic racism. He reflects on how the South’s “lost cause” imagery and historical amnesia continue to shape politics, culture, and education, and why remembering Till’s story is essential for understanding the roots of American dysfunction. Along the way, Wright also explores how sports have historically led society in moral leadership, from civil rights breakthroughs to the integrity of figures like LeBron James. Thompson also tackles broader questions about American governance and society, from the failures of individual politicians to the structural incentives that keep the country in political spirals, the challenges of the modern presidency, and the looming threats of drone warfare and algorithm-driven polarization. He offers insights from his journey as a sportswriter, illustrating how cultural narratives—from the 1940s to today—shape our national conversation. This episode is a deep dive into history, morality, and the complexities of chronicling America’s past while grappling with its present and future. In this episode of the Chuck ToddCast, author Wright Thompson joins Chuck Todd to discuss his new book The Barn and the enduring struggle to tell the stories of civil rights in America. Chuck Todd breaks down why Donald Trump’s sudden push for a Ukraine “peace deal” may be more about political retreat than diplomacy, especially as Europe now shoulders most of the war’s cost—leaving Trump with diminished leverage abroad and a base deeply skeptical of foreign interventions. Chuck digs into new polling that shows a steady and significant shift toward Democrats, with a widening generic ballot advantage and Trump’s approval continuing to fall, suggesting the midterms—and even the Senate—are unexpectedly in play. He explores how Trump’s attempts to manipulate the economy could backfire, how a potential “AI bubble” could further weaken him, and why GOP divisions are poised to intensify. Plus, an update on the California governor’s race, where a field of lackluster Democratic contenders has allowed Republicans to overperform, raising questions about whether bigger names—or Rick Caruso—will jump into a race long dominated by the shadows of Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom. Then, Chuck is joined by Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Anne Applebaum for a sweeping, unsparing look at the state of the Russia–Ukraine war and the global democratic landscape it threatens. Applebaum breaks down whether a ceasefire is even plausible this year, given Vladimir Putin’s unwavering war aims, the murky negotiators involved in back-channel talks, and Trump’s unusually warm posture toward the Kremlin. She details why Ukrainians refuse to accept a “kick the can” peace deal, how corruption scandals are playing out domestically, and the way drones, energy strikes, and a collapsing Russian economy are reshaping the battlefield. From mysterious elite deaths to China’s strategic support, Applebaum outlines the brittle yet dangerous architecture sustaining Putin’s regime. The conversation widens into a broader examination of the worldwide struggle between democracy and autocracy—from Trump’s Venezuela maneuverings to Saudi Arabia’s complicated role, from Silicon Valley’s unchecked power to Europe’s scramble to recalibrate its alliances. Applebaum warns that the U.S. walking away from Ukraine would reverberate far beyond Eastern Europe, and she explains why the speed and scale of Trump’s attacks on democratic norms have raised historic alarm. It’s a candid, far-reaching assessment of the forces shaping global stability—and the stakes ahead. Finally, Chuck answers listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment and previews the upcoming weekend in college football. Interview Only w/ Josh Turek - Why Democrats Struggle…And Can Still Win In Iowa In this episode of the Chuck ToddCast, Chuck sits down with Iowa Democratic senate candidate and four-time Paralympian and gold medalist Josh Turek for a deeply personal and politically sharp conversation. Josh shares his remarkable journey—from being born with spina bifida caused by his father’s exposure to Agent Orange, to discovering wheelchair basketball as a pathway to college, to becoming one of the winningest athletes in Paralympic history. He opens up about the emotional challenge of leaving the sport he loved and what ultimately pushed him toward public service. Together, Chuck and Josh explore how the ADA reshaped life for disabled Americans, why adaptive and women’s sports remain undervalued, and how equal access—not guaranteed equal outcomes—remains the core civil rights debate for the disability community. The conversation widens into an unvarnished look at rural politics, Iowa’s sharp rightward turn, and the policies reshaping life in small towns. Josh breaks down why Medicaid denials have exploded, how school choice is quietly devastating rural school districts, and why tariffs—when used chaotically—are crushing family farms. He tackles complex cultural issues such as religion’s decline, the trans sports debate, and why Democrats shouldn’t cede Christianity or populism to the right. They also cover climate messaging, the stakes for U.S. policy in Israel and Ukraine, and whether Congress should step in to regulate collegiate athletics. With insights on Iowa’s political future, the 2026 Democratic opportunity, and even some NBA talk (yes—Jokić and Jordan both make an appearance), Josh Turek offers one of the most candid, wide-ranging conversations you’ll hear about the Midwest, disability rights, and the future of American politics. In this episode, Chuck Todd breaks down an extraordinary week in politics marked by a near-unanimous House vote to release the Epstein files and growing signs that Donald Trump’s decade-long grip on American politics may finally be loosening. He examines the cracks emerging in Trump’s coalition, the administration’s tariff pullbacks amid rising food costs, and the mounting Trump fatigue driving Republicans to quietly distance themselves. Chuck also tackles Trump’s escalating attacks on female reporters, his contradictory dealings with Gulf states, and the likelihood that the DOJ may cite an “open investigation” to keep the Epstein files sealed. Beyond the Trump saga, Chuck dissects the troubling implications of the Olivia Nuzzi scandal, the shameful rhetoric surrounding Epstein’s victims, and the broader damage to journalism. He wraps with a preview of the TN-07 special election, the legal upheaval over Texas’s redistricting maps, and why today’s partisan map fights echo battles not seen since the 1840s. Finally, Chuck gives his updated ToddCast Top 5 governor’s seats most likely to flip in 2026 and answers listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment. Then, Chuck sits down with Iowa Democratic senate candidate and four-time Paralympian and gold medalist Josh Turek for a deeply personal and politically sharp conversation. A few months ago, we covered the disturbing case involving rising R&B artist David Anthony Burke, better known as D4vd, and the disappearance of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez from Riverside County, California. Celeste vanished in April of 2024, when she was just thirteen, and over time, online chatter began linking her to Burke, a singer whose breakout hits like Romantic Homicide and Here With Me had made him one of the biggest viral artists of the last few years. Those rumors took a horrifying turn in September of 2025, when Celeste's remains were discovered inside an abandoned Tesla registered to Burke. Speculation was that the body had been in the vehicle for an extended period of time, and although the cause of death hasn't been officially released, authorities were treating it as a homicide. Since then, Burke has cancelled his world tour, suspended upcoming releases, and become the focus of an active death investigation. As we learned in our first video, there were already unsettling connections between the two; from matching tattoos and online interactions to song lyrics and videos that many fans now view in a far darker light. Today, we have some updates in this case. Imani (52) and Michael (65) have been married for 24 years—and they're drowning in nearly $126,000 of consumer debt despite earning over $250,000 a year. Imani, a disciplined attorney who tracks every dollar, feels trapped by Michael's unchecked spending on electronics and his laid-back approach to money. She dreams of travel, freedom, and a life that finally feels generous, while he insists everything's fine as long as the bills get paid. With resentment growing and Imani nearing her breaking point, Ramit challenges them to face the truth: Can they pay off their debt, rebuild trust, and start enjoying life again—or are they too stuck in old patterns to change? A special thanks to Facet for sponsoring this episode. Right now, Facet is waiving their $250 enrollment fee for new annual members. And if you invest and maintain $5,000 within your first 90 days, they'll add $300 to your brokerage account. Head to facet.com/ramit to see which membership—Core, Plus, or Complete—is right for you. (Ramit is not a member of Facet, and he has an incentive to endorse Facet as he has an ongoing fee based contract for cash compensation based on this endorsement. All opinions are his own and not a guarantee of a similar outcome.) In this episode we uncover: • Why Imani regrets combining finances after 20 years of marriage • How Michael's promise to “put the money back” reveals a lifetime of avoidance • The stark contrast between Michael's military discipline and total lack of structure at home • What happens when one partner outgrows the other in ambition, discipline, and self-development • Why Imani admits she's embarrassed to be in massive debt at her age • Michael's habit of buying cars and electronics to celebrate milestones • How their $268,000 income still leaves them feeling broke, anxious, and behind • Why Imani clings to control and spreadsheets while Michael tunes out completely • How both partners confront the question: Can they rebuild trust and create structure before it's too late? Adam Green, Co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee joins the program to further the conversation on the importance of seizing the momentum from last night's elections into material benefits for voters. In the Fun Half: We watch a few more moments from Zohran Mamdani's victory speech where he highlights the importance of immigrants to NYC and even deploys a Mario Cuomo quote in a final dagger to Andrew. AOC takes aim at the democrats who refused to get behind Mamdani and still refuse to plan for the future. Seems like she may be considering primarying Chuck Schumer. Curtis Sliwa calls out the billionaires and insiders who tried to deny his right as the real GOP nominee to run for mayor. Stavros Halkias collabs with AOC to discuss why the Mamdani's policies are so attractive to people. Donald Trump reacts to last night's blue wave by calling for Thune to terminate the filibuster. Hasan Piker confronts Olivia Reingold at the Zohran victory party about her smear campaign on him and her horrible work denying the famine in Gaza for the Free Press. All that and a whole lot more. It's Fun Day Monday on the Majority Report On today's program: Trump's polling shows him underwater on almost every single issue. His disapproval rating is the highest it's been in either term and his approval rating hits the lowest it's been so far in his second term. Somehow the Democrats are squandering this incredible opportunity to reach the folks who are jumping ship from the GOP. Founder and editor-in0chief of Bolts Magazine, Daniel Nichanian joins the show to break down the significant elections taking pace tomorrow across the country. In the Fun Half: Rep. Joe Neguse (D-CO) pushes back against a reporter's framing of the shutdown as the Democrats' fault, using the moment to highlight the GOP's responsibility in the crisis. A refreshing moment of effective communication from a Democrat. In an example of ineffective communication, Hakeem Jeffries is thrown a soft ball from Jake Tapper when asked if Zohran Mamdani is the future of the Democratic party and he swings and misses spectacularly. Michigan Representative Haley Stevens does her best Hakeem Jeffries impression in fumbling on an easy question with an incoherent word salad. Majority Report's own Emma Vigeland went on MSNBC this weekend to discuss the failures of the democratic party. Elon Musk butchers a joke that he doesn't understand as Joe Rogan laughs like a sycophant. All that and more The Congress switchboard number is (202) 224-3121.
