Here's a preview of a new audiobook, Douglas Adams: The Ends of the Earth, which celebrates the wit and wisdom of the legendary science fiction author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. Twenty-five years after his death, Adams’ books continue to be read by new generations and his creations along with his ultimate answer to life, the universe, and everything being “42”, have seeped deep into public consciousness. Written and narrated by Arvind Ethan David, Adams’ former protégé, this one-of-a-kind audiobook includes rare archival material from the Adams Estate, interviews with Adams’ personal friends like Stephen Fry and David Baddiel, and reenactments of his work to form an immersive journey through the mind of one of the most beloved and visionary writers of our time. The penultimate episode! So much happening, so many feelings, so much blood and most importantly: So many prediction still waiting to be proven wrong or right. Vero's opinions have solidified and nothing Lina says can change her mind on certain things. But also sometimes Lina manages to put some made-up-on-the-spot explanations towards Vero and turn a meh reactions to a happy one. Join us for a wild ride this time! Also! Not only is our Summoning episode coming up SOON (after the regular release day of this, you will have FOUR DAYS until we record if you wanna send us feedback), but we also mention in this episode that Vero got to be a guest on another podcast! Finally we get some resolution for our case! Most of the team assembles in Wendimore and Dirk lays down the case, which obviously means a time of vindication for Lina, because she gets to do a lot of YOU SHOULD'VE SEEN THIS, VERO!! But before we get to that point, we discuss every possible detail, and of course, Vero makes a bunch more predictions for what's next! This will never get shorter, we're afraid. Strap in, because we discuss every single detail of this episode and Lina is hell bent on trying to push Vero into more and more predictions. And if you feel like we don't seem to remember what we discussed at the start of the episode that well, it's because we had to break this recording in two, due to....wait for it... technical difficulties. Hopefully the transition feels seemless, but who's to say? Just squeezing today's episode under 90 minutes, but it is BURSTING with information and entertainment! Vero is probably still running victory laps around her house, because a complete random and a very specific prediction came true, and Lina is never going to stop chuckling about some other wild guesses, that came out of this recording. Mostly you'll learn what is the difference between a whoosh-whoosh and pew-pew gun, and how we feel about Ken's current relationship with Friedkin. So enjoy, we certainly did. There seem to be no short recordings this season, because why would there? Vero continues making predictions left and right, some come true, all are entertaining (if you know you know) and Lina tries her best to not spoiler anything (which is getting harder by the episode because ISN'T IT OBVIOUS BY NOW?) In this chunk of an episode, Vero's predictions keep coming, and you better believe, that Lina made sure to extract as many as humanly possible. We debate Alan Tudyk being a part of this tv show, Lina melts over Amanda's haircut and Vero falls into conspiracy spirals, while Lina hides behind her microphone. AKA all the good stuff! WE ARE BACK! The absolute wreck of life has crashed into us in full force, but we have finally sat down to talk about season 1 of Dirk Gently. As per usual, this is a chunky episode, with all our classics (favourite/least favourite character), and new things (predictions, predictions), and at one point we watch some bonus materials, discovered on YouTube, so there are some silences there, if you want to watch along, links to those are below. Overall, this was a very fun episode to record, tho it lacked the usual descend into alcohol haze, as Vero was on medication and wasn't allowed to drink. Action-packed episode brings disagreements apparently! Though we both had a great time watching the episode itself, it turned out, we have watched a sligtly different thing. Lina focused on new information, while Vero reveled in trying to read old scenes through new eyes. But it wouldn't be us, if we didn't make the best of it, and Lina didn't grill Vero on some fun predictions, so have fun, and don't forget, if you ever have anything to add, please reach out to us at dirkgently@taot-podcast.com. This is a junky one because for the first time this season, we are actually disagreeing on things! And if you listened to our older stuff, you know what that means - lengthy debates... But also there is a lot happening in this episode, many questions are raised, Vero draws some curious conclusions that Lina tries very hard to not comment too obviously on, and a lot of direct lines are quoted because awesomeness. The end of the season (and the year) is approaching, so if you want to give us some commentary, feedback, thoughts, anything, send your emails to dirkgently@taot-podcast.com . In episode 5, we get to at least briefly hang out with all of our characters, and especially Amanda with the Rowdy 3 are making Lina very happy. There is some general disagreement about Friedkin, but mostly this was a very chill and fun episode. Disclaimer, we are convinced, that this tv show is happening in California, so please don't yell at us for being so shocked, that Bart is in Seattle. Richard Macduff is not himself Everything is connected! Before Netflix adapted Douglas Adams' beloved Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency, there were two BBC Radio series featuring Harry Enfield as the oddball detective. Dirk Gently is a detective with a difference. Based on his belief in the fundamental interconnectedness of all things, he investigates mysterious circumstances through a holistic approach – if everything is connected then he might just ask you to buy him pizza so he can glean clues from that pizza through holistic techniques. Or maybe this just started as a scam to get free pizza – but his encounters with the bizarre and occult, and his outcomes speak for themselves

This week, a bone Vervoid joins in the fun as we travel back in time to Wales in 2015 pretending to be Scotland in 1980 pretending to be somewhere in the Soviet Union. And it's hard to say which time paradox is the most annoying, the bootstrap one or the predestination one. Thank goodness Frazer Gregory is here to help us sort it all out — it's Before the Flood. Notes and links Like Steven B in our episode on Flatline, Frazer uses the Christopher Nolan film The Prestige (2006) as a way of understanding what Toby Whithouse is doing by setting up the bootstrap paradox at the start of this episode — it's a magic trick. Likewise, Frazer compares this story's unresolved conclusion with the way that the Season 9 episode of The Simpsons Das Bus throws its ending away with a hilarious voiceover from James Earl Jones. El Sandifer refers to the Fisher King as a Bone Vervoid in her TARDIS Eruditorum essay on this story. Bone Vervoid. Warning: she is considerably less kind to these two episodes than we have been. Of course, A Long Tradition of Doctor Who Monsters That in Some Way Resemble Human Genitalia is the title of Flight Through Entirety Episode 168, and it refers to Human Dalek Sec in Evolution of the Daleks. It is currently the record-holder as the longest title of any episode of Flight Through Entirety. We refer to some of Peter Serafinowicz's earlier work, including his role as the voice of Darth Maul in The Phantom Menace (1999), In 2002, he appeared in Look Around You, a spoof of educational science programmes for schoolchildren. And in 2007, he appeared in his own sketch comedy show on BBC Two, The Peter Serafinowicz Show, which introduced his character Brian Butterfield, who he continues to play on tour this year. The Butterfield Diet Plan is a must see. Picks of the week James Fans of weird time paradoxes will also enjoy Douglas Adams's Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (1987), which, through a time paradox of its own, was the inspiration for Adams's own Doctor Who stories, City of Death (1979) and Shada (1979, but in a nearby parallel universe). Peter Fans of weird time paradoxes will also enjoy the Sex in the City sequel TV series And Just Like That. Nathan Nathan picks the podcast Strong Songs, where enthusiastic and talented musician Kirk Hamilton analyses the music that he loves, in order to discover what it is that makes it great. Over the course of his 20+ years as an actor, today's guest has reinvented himself, pushing beyond Hollywood typecasting into roles that have allowed him to reach new heights as both an artist, and as a person. Tyler Labine's long list of credits include Hulu's, “Deadbeat”, The WB's “Dead Last”, NBC's “Animal Practice”, CBS's “Mad Love”, FX's “Sons of Tucson” and he can currently be seen on the new season of BBC's “Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency” and the NBC hit series, “New Amsterdam” as Dr. Iggy Frome. Born in Canada, Tyler discusses what it was like growing up as one of three artistically inclined siblings. He shares his experience of getting started in the film and television industry, and how his desire for more opportunities ultimately landed him in Los Angeles with roommate Ryan Gosling. Early on in his career, Tyler experienced being typecast in predominantly comedic roles. Often playing the goofy character type for a number of years, Tyler shares how he was able to shift casting's view of him and the kinds of projects he began to take on in order to do so. Now playing a wide range of roles across the comedy to drama spectrum, today's episode is full of insight and tips for actors at all levels. From discussing the ins-and-outs of actor finances, to character building technique, to his audition story opposite Aaron Sorkin that you'll have to hear to believe, Tyler is an example of what it means to grow as a person, and as a result, grow as an artist.
