Dr. Kathy considers a recent article that linked depression to the decrease in outside play and forming identity. She has some important insights for parents to inspire being creative, guiding outside play, and forming identity for their kids. According to some, the mix of those three in repeated succession drives kids to strong mental health.
Today, Dr. Kathy continues our series on the five core needs. She outlines how they're all linked and traced, starting from security, who can I trust. She continues building a reality that these needs are first met in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and that as we grow these core needs flourish in the care of relationships that understand, foster, and celebrate the needs. Today she specifically highlights our core need to understand our purpose, essentially answering the question, 'why am i alive?'

I'm Still Here: Lessons from Life with Metastatic Breast Cancer with Heather Jose
This week, Heather reveals the mental shift she experienced during her treatment and subsequent maintenance. Instead of dwelling on statistics, Heather didn't just seek more time. Heather consistently embraced the possibilities and maintained a belief in "what ifs" and "I have a chance." While fear often lurked, she chose to stay proactive, reshaping her perspective positively. She led with her mind, and her body followed suit. We come to terms with the things beyond our control and persevere. Heather regularly expressed gratitude for her body's capabilities. Rather than harboring anger and self-criticism, she chose to reframe her perspective, recognizing her body as the reason for her continued existence. Heather shares her experience of setting her initial goal: to live long enough to witness Sydney's first day of kindergarten, and the profound emotions she felt upon achieving that goal.

As you navigate the different phases of your treatment, your nutritional needs will shift accordingly. To kickstart this journey, it's a great idea to set some clear goals. Get specific about the foods you'd like to include, and think about which fruits and veggies you'd like to incorporate. Don't shy away from trying new things, especially when it comes to fruits and veggies. Have you ever thought about switching from regular smoothies to delicious smoothie bowls? Or maybe giving meal prepping a shot? Aim for adding at least 10 different types of foods daily – it's not as challenging as it might seem. We all have those moments when we'd rather indulge in less healthy options, but during treatment, it's crucial to prioritize your nutrition. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the variety of fruits and veggies you can easily fit into your meals. Keeping your immune system strong to support your body through treatment is essential, so focus on eating well. Consider using a food tracking app to help you stay on course. And here's a friendly tip: when those sweet cravings hit, don't be too hard on yourself. Instead, explore healthier substitutes that still satisfy your sweet tooth.
I'm Still Here: Lessons from Life with Metastatic Breast Cancer with Heather Jose
The first step is to make a plan. Your physical health during treatment is so valuable because it directly affects your immune system. Take it slow, this is a process. Don't over do it. Make use of the equipment you already have at home. Push through your mental resistance. Get yourself started every day no matter how much you have to fight your mental. Your body doesn't want a pass. It wants to be strong, it wants to fight this. Allow it to. The time in this phase is different for everyone. It's a big change that can have scary moments. But your thoughts can really change how you feel. Heather used visualization a lot during her treatment. When you start treatment, you might feel a bit better mentally. You make a plan and act on it. Believing in the plan and changing how you think about treatment is key. Instead of worrying about side effects, think that they're helping fight the cancer. These effects help you stay alive. You know, it's January 2021 and I like this time frame because we're talking about how tothrive in 2021 and it's nice to not be saddled with New Year's resolutions, something a lot ofpeople think about in late December or early January. They say that most people have givenup on their resolutions by about this time, about three weeks into the year. So I'm glad we'repast that and we won't be calling this resolutions or goals for 2021.Contact:https://www.keystonefinancial.com/
