Millard Urquhart. a native of Jonesport, Maine, was born in 1899. After a couple of years working as a Coast Guard surfman at a local lifeboat station, Urquhart became the second assistant keeper at Ram Island Ledge Light in Cape Elizabeth in 1926. In the following year he moved to Seguin Island as a second assistant. He moved quickly up the ranks, becoming a first assistant in 1930 and then principal keeper in 1931. In 1939 he became the principal keeper at Libby Island Light Station, where he finished his career as a keeper in 1943. Urquhart’s granddaughter Bertha Caler has taken an interest in preserving the story of his career as a lighthouse keeper. Her mother and one of her uncles were born on Seguin Island. Bertha is an aficionado of lighthouses in general, especially in Maine.

Not only did they survive, but God crossed their paths with Christians who helped them.These believers—normal people of no renown—played huge roles in the lives of these women by small acts of kindness and grace. These blessings not only helped these women fleeing North Korea, but also the next generation. Faith herself was richly blessed by kind Christians who loved and encouraged her as a refugee kid, confused in a strange, new country.Through this journey and divine interactions, a spiritual legacy was born. It's almost 8 a.m. when Gloria Moncrief arrives at her oil firm's hangar at Meacham Airport in Fort Worth, Texas. She climbs into an eight-seater Cessna Citation, explaining that her Boeing 737, Lucky Liz, is in the shop. The flight to a small airfield in southern Louisiana takes about an hour. Then it's a 45-minute drive along the levee into the Atchafalaya river basin, the largest swamp in North America, followed by 15 minutes on a flat-bottomed boat past alligators, nesting bald eagles and fishermen muscling their bass boats into the bayou. Rounding a bend in the waterway, the boat arrives at a giant drilling rig with a 150-foot-tall derrick and roaring engines. Tall and thin, decked out in jeans and knee-high ostrich-skin boots, the 44-year-old Moncrief steps onto the rig, where a handful of mud-covered roughnecks maneuver 40-foot lengths of steel pipe with massive hydraulic tongs.  Moncrief is the head of Montex Drilling Company, the family business that owns Moncrief Oil and has been spending $300,000 a day to rent the rig and staff it around the clock with 60 folks working 12-hour shifts, 14 days on, 14 days off, all to drill the second-deepest natural gas well ever in the U.S. The Highlander 2 goes down 30,862 feet (almost six miles), where it intersects an 800-foot-thick (gross) zone of sand saturated with trillions of cubic feet of natural gas. At around 1:00 am on December 25, 1945, Jennie Sodder woke up to smoke pouring into her bedroom. She woke up her husband, George, and they started evacuating the house of their nine children. By the time the fire took over the Sodder residence, only Jennie, George, and four of their children made it outside safely. George and two of his sons frantically tried to get into the house to save the remaining children, but they couldn't. When George went to fill up a bucket with water to start extinguishing the flames, the water was frozen, when he went to grab their ladder to get his children from the top story, the ladder was missing; when he went to drive his trucks to the second story window, neither would start despite having worked just the day before. And when they tried to call the fire department for help, no one responded for hours. The only thing the family could do was watch as their home burned to the ground. Hours later, after the smoldering ashes were put out, a group of people began searching for the children's remains, but nothing was found. Not a single bone was found in the ashes. The fire was quickly ruled an accident, and investigators told the family the children's bodies had burned up completely in the fire, leaving nothing of them behind, not even their bones. But between the mishaps, while trying to put out the fire, threats made against the family before the fire, and the strange behavior of authorities throughout the investigation, Jennie and George Sodder refused to believe five of their children were killed in the home. They were convinced their children didn't die in the fire, and they spent the rest of their lives trying to prove it.
