It takes 0.01 seconds to say “thank you”. But the hardest part is remembering to do it because new habits are hard. The Secrets To Scaling Your Business

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 21, 2021 3:15

When we get new interns or employees, I make sure to set the tone by telling them that we do not teach about working in the industry. Instead, we teach four things that are applicable to all aspects of life: gratitude, empathy, accountability, and effective communication. To get everyone aligned, reinforce your company values in all three stages of scaling your business, and use different strategies to instill them. Phase 1: Learning Stage During the learning stage, introduce your values to new members of the team. It is vital that all employees are aligned with the values of your business. Help your team connect to what inspires them, and they are more likely to live by your business's values. Phase 2: Execution In the execution stage, employees learn to maintain proper balance in achieving the company's mission. Having a motto or mission to guide employees during this stage is important for success in a values-based business. Think about your overarching goals and what you want to accomplish. How can you make your mission into your story? Phase 3: Partnership (Equity) Once an employee shows commitment to these values, that opens up the door for the partnership/equity phase, where employees are rewarded for their dedication, success, and the revenues they have brought into your business. The partnership stage allows you to reinvest in your most successful (and aligned) employees and also helps to retain these individuals. Learn more about your ad choices. Patience & Persistence | Road to Revenue #86

What is the difference between patience and persistence? By itself, patience is just the ability to tolerate the passing of time. Don't sit at home dreaming about what you want high on your mom's couch, broke, sick and alone. What you really want is to blend patience with persistence. Persistence is the ability to push and push and push and push. It's the ability to be stubborn in the best possible sense of the word. These people are consistent and persistent in the pursuit of their potential, even if they aren't always enjoying it. Defining Patience, Persistence, and Perseverance Patience is the ability to accept or tolerate delay, difficult situations, or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious. Basically, the ability to find the light, the love, and lessons within those challenges. Persistence is a fairly simple concept revolving around the ability to continue on. Meanwhile, perseverance refers to one's determination. Those who are determined can maintain steady belief or efforts in spite of discouragement or difficulty. Those individuals pursue learning those lessons rather than quitting, finding the light and love in what others might deem “failure”. While these terms are linked, there are subtle differences. Some will say that the words persistence and perseverance seem to indicate action, while patience is inaction. I am here to tell you this is absolutely not true! There is one aspect where the best coaches are united, and that is through consistency. A good coach is consistent in the time and interest they devote to their “team”, as well as their behavior, feedback, and the suggestions they give. These coaches don't let their own issues impact their ability to lead, they can keep these issues separate from their role as a coach. No matter what area of life you are working on improving, a coach is able to help you bring your best on a day-to-day basis. They can inspire you and motivate you as they help you progress towards your goals. What Skills Make a Good Coach? Just like there are myriad types of coaches, there are also a variety of skills that make them great. Some common skills of effective coaches include: Taking their “leader as coach” role seriously - You can't be a good coach if you're don't care enough to be a leader. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) and self-awareness - Not only do great coaches understand what drives their team and are able to manage egos and emotions effectively, but they are also self-aware enough to admit mistakes and make adjustments to their plan. Preparation - A good coach prepares for each coaching opportunity with specific examples or ideas to share and discuss. Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of their employees or team - Thebest leaders maximize the strengths and can turn weaknesses into strengths by putting their team in the right positions. Two-way communication - Not only are good coaches able to make expectations clear to those they work with, but they also listen to others and try to understand their points of view. Optimistic and motivational perspective - A good coach can find the right amounts of encouragement and optimism to connect with their team when things are easy, and well as when they are hard. I hate failure because it can cause momentary frustration, but I also love it because building something using blocks of failure helps you step up to success. Without failure, you can't learn and move forward as a decision-maker. Don't fear it. Welcome it. Failure is as certain as taxes. And it definitely is as certain as death. So, why fear it? You're wasting energy being afraid of failing or you're attracting what you don't want: failure. Know that as you're failing, you're learning. Learn more about your ad choices. The Cobbler's Kids Have No Shoes | Road to Revenue #83

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 25, 2021 58:32

What does “the cobbler's kids have no shoes” actually mean? The idea behind this phrase is that someone with a specific skill, knowledge, or desire is often so busy assisting others that their own affairs go unattended. They fail to apply their expertise to the situations that they face and experience some consequences as a result How do we reconcile this concept with the saying “the more we give the more we receive”? To start, you can't give to others what you don't have for yourself. Forgiveness is a great example of something that you need to have for yourself first, in order to be forgiving of others. When it comes to receiving, our focus should be on appreciation and acknowledgment. When I say appreciation, I mean that you should try to add value to everything that you receive. You should also acknowledge what you've received and share your gratitude freely, especially for the things that others do not have. Be a courageous leader who illuminated flaws instead of hiding them. The ability to be vulnerable is such an important aspect of life that I switched the two words sitting on my nightstand from "Thank You" to "Radical Humility," as a reminder to be humble and allow myself to be vulnerable. And it's not simply being vulnerable as a person at home with your family; it is essential to also be vulnerable as a leader in business. Vulnerability is simply the courage to be yourself, "warts and all," a core component of effective leadership. Leaders who try to portray themselves as invulnerable or perfect will soon find that their message does not resonate with their team. Not only that, but a façade of invulnerability is a defense which attracts attacks from others. Vulnerability means living in authenticity. Learn more about your ad choices. Be considerate about what you are asking for in business or your personal life. Take the perspective that one person's crumbs are another person's cake. When I was five years old, I told my mom that I wanted to make a million dollars. I just wanted to buy her a house and a car, thinking that I would never work again. Looking back at that now, it's obvious that I was only asking for crumbs at the time. I (unknowingly) held beliefs that were holding me back from achieving more. Limiting beliefs are simply assumptions about your reality that come from your perceptions, life experiences, or your energetic or genetic inheritance. If you look closely at your most common negative behaviors, you might discover that the underlying cause is limiting beliefs. A scarce approach instead of an abundant one is what interferes with you and your infinity. We each have our own infinity, infinite possibilities for our future. Rather than simply setting goals to reach (and stop), let's continually look to expand our perspective and set milestones to go past. Learn more about your ad choices.
