As you may have noticed I rewrote and recorded this episode about my mum, but now its twice as long as it was before. I've divided it into two episodes, 10.1 and 10.2. I put a great deal of love into rewriting these two episodes about my mum and intentionally recorded them on my birthday. When the Mormons in Utah saw the way my Russian Mother was raising me they rolled their eyes and called her "That Crazy Foreign Woman." Born Veronika Aleksandrovna Shchipnova to Russian parents in British Columbia. Mum met my father, converted to Mormonism and moved to Utah to marry the golden boy of one of Utah's most prominent families.Mum was always the smartest, best educated, best looking and by far the best dressed person in every room. She looked like Ava Gardener with curly black hair and stunning blue eyes. Women hated her and men were terrified of her. Everyone from our cousin the governor on down knew her well enough to admire and fear her.For a woman in misogynistic Mormondom, in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, my mum accomplished some truly amazing things, not the least of which was to raise me to thrive in the normal, non-Mormon world. She taught me life wasn't about conformity, especially in Utah. It was about discovering who you are and learning to love the person you are meant to be, no matter how eccentric, different or even gay.As an adult, armed with the lessons my mum taught me, I found that quirky, somewhat eccentric individual I am and a world where people appreciated me for who I am.Though to be perfectly honest, during my childhood I often wondered if this mythical world really existed.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/i-woke-up-this-gay/donations
Nicki is a single mother and entrepreneur with one leg firmly planted in Amsterdam and one in Tokyo. Back in 2011 she moved with her then husband to Tokyo as a trailing wife. Unable to find a job and reach her objective to be at a native level in her Japanese ability two years in, she decided to start her own company called “Tokiotours”. 10 years later she's had a child, is divorced and has her “home base” back in Amsterdam from where she runs her tour guide business together with a business partner located in Tokyo. What started out as a simple side business has grown into a flourishing business with 50 local guides working for her from various destinations. Not only does she offer private guided tours to tourists, but she also focuses on market explorations for the B2B market where she helps companies take their first steps on the Japanese market. Topics covered in today's conversation include: -how and why pregnant foreigners in Japan struggle to get their needs met -how and why the famously high-quality customer service in Japan can be so inflexible -differences in relationship-building and privacy in Japan -how expatriation can impact a couple's relationship -how family and the “domestic sphere” is viewed differently in Japan Nicki's Links: -www.tokiotours.nl -www.tokiotours.com -www.facebook.com/tokiotourswww.facebook.com/verkenjapanhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/tokiotours/https://www.linkedin.com/company/verkenjapanhttps://Instagram.com/tokiotourshttps://Instagram.com/verkenjapanhttps://instagram.com/Nicki_Amsterdam =https://twitter.com/tokiotours -Nicki@tokiotours.com Want to support the podcast? This week we look at the biblical book of Ruth, a wonderful story of sacrificial love and redemption. Boaz's love for Ruth is a mirror image of the heart of God. Boaz steps in as a willing kinsmen redeemer and foreshadows Jesus who will step in as the Redeemer for all people.
As Plutarch was writing about the Athenian statesman Pericles, he was amazed by "the great art or power this woman had, which she used to please the leading men of the state." This unusual woman is Aspasia. You can also read about Aspasia in History made Beautiful blog.
It was love at first sight! Boaz and Ruth were married and had a son. The women of the city celebrated Naomi's joy, for Naomi had found a redeemer for her family name. The child was named Obed, whom the reader discovers is the grandfather of King David (Ruth 4:13–17). Jesus is your kinsman-redeemer! Christ came to us while we were still sinners. Here at AZchurch.com, we're all about people because GOD is all about people. One of the ways we express our love for God is through our love for each other, and we do that by helping each person grow in their relationship with the Word. Our vision is to see God transform our neighbors, community, and the world as we connect people to Jesus.

Nov 7, 2021 The Faith of a Foreign Woman
Why is it that when a “white family” prohibits their own child from getting married to a person from a different ethnic background, it is blown out of proportion, and racism is invoked? Are the concerns of the African parent in any way different? Do some people think what is good for us is not good for others? Do you see how discrimination is a heart issue and found anywhere you have people? If these attitudes are not checked, they will continue to divide the human race. Some are going to argue that because discrimination is coming from a Caucasian, it is more egregious. I will say whoever thinks like this is refusing to remove the log of wood in their own eye and focusing on the tiny piece of wood in the other person's eye. If you think that disowning and shunning a child because he or she got married to somebody from a different ethnic group is justifiable, you need to wake up.
