About Farzeen and Goddard School: As an early childhood educator and mother of four, I have always been aware of the importance of Safe, Nurturing, Quality Education environments. It has long been my dream to open a daycare center that provides the best in early childhood education for families in the town of Sudbury and surrounding communities. In 2008 I shared this vision with my husband and was thrilled that he was completely on board with the idea. Sadly, shortly thereafter, he suffered a stroke and naturally my attention turned to his care, in addition to my home-based child care business. Although his daily challenges were at times insurmountable, my husband's belief in and encouragement of my dream of opening a daycare school never once wavered. His passing in 2013 left a large hole in my life and the lives of our children. During this time I was not only grieving his loss, but also lamenting the probability that my dream of opening a childcare school was just that – a dream. Let me say right now that my four children are amazing human beings! They are my backbone, my support, my champions. My pride for them is unmeasurable. They completed their education at prestigious universities during the time period when their father was paralyzed and his eventual demise. Their heartache was palpable and yet they had the strength and determination to focus on their studies and encourage me to follow my dream. Over time, my children and I decided to take the first steps toward realizing my vision. My daughter, who I consider my best friend, accompanied me to various daycare franchises as this journey began to unfold. After visits to many franchises we decided on The Goddard® School, based on their outstanding programs and offerings. Today, I am proud to be the on-site owner of The Goddard School of Sudbury at 437 Boston Post Road. It is a journey I could not have taken without the constant support and encouragement of my children, who have become my partners. I am also grateful to O'Sullivan Architects. Inc. of Peabody, Massachusetts and Wozny/Barbar & Associates, Inc. (WB&A) of Hanover, Massachusetts who served as project architect and MEP engineer, respectively in addition to the civil engineering firm of Williams & Sparages of Middleton, MA. Appreciative doesn't come close to describing my sentiments for my general contractor, Acella Construction. The Acella team went above and beyond in turning a former Rite Aid® and Subway® shop into the beautiful Goddard School of Sudbury, my 15,000 square foot franchised private preschool and educational daycare facility. Without their assistance, respect, and dedication this project would not have been completed on time – but I am happy to say that any and all construction challenges were handled by Acella allowing me to finally say that my dream of owning a daycare center that provides the best in early childhood education is now a reality. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Who is the founder & Owner of LightupwithShua Podcast and LUWS ACADEMY LLC ? visit: lightupwithshua.com I am a student of knowledge of multiple disciplines, a mentor, and an intercultural & Interfaith practitioner, who wants to help heal and solve problems by bringing awareness for conscious living and conscious parenting to people with flexible mindset. In this episode, the recording of which began while Lucy was at the Base Camp of Mount Everest following her historic summit, Alicia and Lucy discuss goal setting and staying committed to one's goals in the face of giant obstacles--like summiting Mount Denali. Lucy provides strategies to remain resilient, even when it feels like what you're working for is far away. She highlights the need to trust one's self and how positive self-talk is critical to attaining what may seem unreachable. Alicia and Lucy also talk about controlling what you can control, and keeping your eyes on the summit. In 2022, Lucy was honored with a Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award at the ESPY's. What is it like to be a young, Black, American woman traveling in Southern and Eastern Africa? In her new novel, No Blame, No Shame, No Guilt, Leoma James explores the profound experience of being surrounded by Africa's natural beauty and vibrant culture while also realizing the harsh realities of racism and the long-term implications of colonization in Africa. Through short stories and poetry, James exposes readers to the different racial relations present within each story, allowing them to draw their own conclusions about racism and white supremacy. James only has one request: that readers consider what they know about history and current events and reflect on how they have contributed to the racial relations that exist within society today. Who is to be blamed for the gross discrepancies we see and experience? Who should feel shame for the perpetuation of colonial ideals? Who is guilty for the dramatic and disproportionate physical and mental brutality invoked against Black bodies? In the 139th episode of Town Hall's In the Moment podcast, Charlie James interviews Leoma James about No Blame, No Shame, No Guilt.  Leoma James is a young Black poet, storyteller, activist, and educator from Seattle, Washington. She primarily writes poetry and short stories that focus on the Black experience, from a global standpoint. Leoma is a world traveler who extended her studies at Washington State University through the Knowledge Exchange Institute in Nairobi, Kenya. Leoma also served in Namibia with the U.S Peace Corps from 2017-2019 as a Secondary English teacher and has traveled extensively through Southern and Eastern Africa. Leoma is currently pursuing her master's degree in Education at the University of Washington and has the desire to support students who are disadvantaged academically and socially due to race, income, immigration status, and language barriers, as well as people with disabilities. Charlie James has been an organizer in the Black American community for most of his life, beginning at age five after he led black kindergartners into the Michigan school system in 1956. A leader for Black students throughout his schooling, Charlie became the founder and First President of the Black Student Federation at Lake Michigan Junior College and was named a Ford Foundation Scholar. After receiving death threats due to his community activism, Charlie left Michigan and came to the University of Washington in Seattle, where he became the President of the Black Student Union and an editor for the UW Daily. Today, Charlie is a well-known editorial writer for every major newspaper in the Pacific Northwest, including his own platform, the African American Business and Employment Journal. He is also the founder of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park in Seattle and one of the founders of Northwest African American Museum. Inspiration can come from many different genre's and sources and you can use that as a reference point in your own form of art Bio: Lola Kirke stands out like a flash of neon magenta in this nostalgic landscape of Americana tin-types. While many of her singing, and songwriting peers look further back for inspiration, Kirke's sweet spot is decidedly in the excess of the 80's. Anyone only familiar with Kirke through her on-screen performances (Mistress America, Gone Girl, or Mozart in the Jungle) may be surprised by just how dazzling Lola-playing-Lola can be. Just a few lines into “Better than Any Drug,“ it's clear no written role could reveal more of Kirke's wit, lust for life, and sense of humor than this record captures with the help of producer Austin Jenkins (White Denim, Leon Bridges). Scheduled for release in April 2022, the 10-song sophomore full-length album showcases Kirke's unselfconscious, country-twinged vocals alongside a brightly colored candy shop of glam-twang guitar riffs, department store tv commercial synth stylings, and swooping, lilting, unabashedly feminine background vocals. Lady For Sale channels a high-spirited insouciance that feels invigorating and familiar, decidedly more easy-going and fun-loving than what we've come to expect from its genre (and the world in general) in recent years. This is a party you'll want to attend.  RESOURCE LINKS Lola Kirke Music Lola Kirke on Instagram Lola Kirke on Twitter Lola Kirke on Facebook Lola Kirke on YouTube See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
