Dear Friends,To all those who are poor, have nowhere to go, cannot see their way, feel oppressed, burdened, and have lost hope, Jesus is the good news of God's love, source of joy. This is the feeling that pervades all today's readings. In the first reading we hear Isaiah reminding us that God is the source of our joy:‘I exult for joy in the Lord, my soul rejoices in my God,In the Second Reading Paul, too, calls on the Christian community in Thessalonika to ‘be happy at all times', living constantly in the presence of God and thanking God for the many blessings they have received through God's love. Today's Gospel tells us that John the Baptizer came as a witness to testify to the Light, i.e., Jesus. The coming of Jesus, the Light, into the world is cause for rejoicing as Light removes darkness from the world. We should be glad and rejoice also because, like John the Baptizer, we, too, are chosen to bear witness to Christ Jesus, the Light of the world. We are to reflect Jesus' Light in our lives so that we may radiate it and illuminate the dark lives of others around us. Friends, this Sunday we are invited to intensify the interior pace of our pilgrimage to the Lord who comes to save us. Jesus, source of our peace, is coming. For this reason, despite difficulties and problems we face, we are invited to be full of holy optimism and joy.
Date: November 26, 2023 Title: Give Thanks to God Text: Isaiah 57:14-15 Series: Guest Preachers Preacher: Jamison Parker
The Pilgrims fled persecution and arrived in America in 1620 to Worship God according to their convictions. Because of their sacrifice we can worship God freely, let's do it. Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we can have eternal life
On Thanksgiving Day people love to talk about being thankful for the wealth and possessions they have. Yet people are often thankful with the mindset, “I'm thankful for everything that I have done and for all of the things I have earned through the work of my hands.” Our readings this morning remind us that every good and perfect gift has been given to us by our heavenly Father. Since God is the one who blesses us with everything we need for body and soul, let's give thanks to the God who has blessed us so richly.
This message emphasizes the end-result of faith in the gospel of Christ is thanksgiving to God. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/churches-of-christ/support

Are you happy? Join us as we kick off "Summer in the Psalms." For the rest of the summer, we will reflect on and apply a Psalm each Sunday. The Psalms are beautiful for endless reasons. For one, they are the God-given prayers for God's people, including Jesus. Imagine the fact that Jesus grew up, lived and breathed the Psalms. Another reason is that the Psalms flesh out in stark honesty what happiness through all the highs and lows of life looks like for the Christ-follower. Are you happy? Let's look to the Psalms together to learn God's definition of happiness. Speaker: Russell Sutherland
Today's Promise: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 God calls you to a life of thankfulness. Just a few minutes of giving thanks for the blessings God has given you can completely transform your attitude and outlook. God calls you to give thanks in everything. Giving thanks in everything is not giving thanks for everything. It's hard to be thankful for a flat tire, a negative doctor's report, or a difficult marriage. However, you can give thanks in those situations because you know God is still in control. Giving thanks is a confession that God is good, and He takes care of His children.
Pastoral Intern Michael Briggs preaches on Psalm 136.
Join Adam & Ryan on this biblical topic as we discuss what it means to live in thanksgiving. In the midst of storms & valleys, how and why do we give thanks to God? Thanksgiving is tomorrow, and I certainly know that I have so much to be grateful for. It's our first Thanksgiving as a family of 5, and that is just the tip of the iceburg. We are blessed with our church family, our friends, our home, and so many other things. God has been good to us far beyond measure. It's easy to be thankful when things are good, but what about when they're not? Well...we need to learn that gratitude is not tied to God's blessings, but much rather to his unchanging nature. Regardless of our circumstances, God is still God, and he is worthy of our thanks and praise. Even if things are hard this year, not just tomorrow, but every day be sure that you show God your heartfelt thanks in both word and deed.
