Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”A feast day, a friend, and a fight worth entering. We set the stage with Saint John Paul II, the Eucharist, and Our Lady of Fatima, then welcome John Preiss, a Catholic convert and director of the Fatima Family Apostolate, to share how a quiet hour before the Blessed Sacrament can upend a life, launch a mission, and heal a home. John's story moves from Lutheran roots and cassette-tape apologetics to a providential friendship with Fr. Robert J. Fox, the beloved author and youth leader who formed generations through Fatima. A double “bell” moment in adoration confirmed John's call to serve and eventually steward Fr. Fox's legacy through a museum, a family-focused apostolate, and a renewed edition of a rich book on the Eucharist.Together we trace the thread: why Jesus' words “This is my body” demand a response; how adoration calms anxiety and clarifies decisions; and why the final battle over marriage and the family calls for fathers present at home, mothers rooted in hope, and children formed by truth. If your heart feels restless, if your home feels thin, or if you're searching for clarity in a loud world, this conversation offers a simple path: sit before Jesus, ask boldly, listen deeply, and act faithfully. Find the Fatima Family Apostolate at fatimafamily.org, and get Fr. Fox's book, Eucharist, Heaven and Earth Meet via Sophia Institute Press If this moved you, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave a review to help others find their way back to the Eucharistic heart of the Church. Here are the links to Jack's latest Substack : The Plan of Life and the Christian Vocation: To Love as God Loves and Sergeant Columban Meets Padre Pioat X https://x.com/JP2RenewalSupport the show

Today's Topics: 1, 2, 3, 4) Father Charles Murr joins Terry Gospel - Luke 12:39-48 - Jesus said to his disciples: "Be sure of this: if the master of the house had known the hour when the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come." Then Peter said, "Lord, is this parable meant for us or for everyone?" And the Lord replied, "Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward whom the master will put in charge of his servants to distribute the food allowance at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master on arrival finds doing so. Truly, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property. But if that servant says to himself, 'My master is delayed in coming,' and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants, to eat and drink and get drunk, then that servant's master will come on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour and will punish the servant severely and assign him a place with the unfaithful. That servant who knew his master's will but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will shall be beaten severely; and the servant who was ignorant of his master's will but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating shall be beaten only lightly. Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more." Memorial of Saint John Paul II, Pope Saint John Paul, pray for us! Fr. John Eckert joins Patrick to discuss St. John Paul II Who was John Paul II (17:13) Megan - I was fortunate to go to Rome shortly after 9/11. There was a special Mass at the Vatican with JPII. The Mass had widows and widowers from 9/11. Europe was reaching out and consoling America. I was dealing with infertility, got back from the trip and shortly after, conceived our first child. (20:24) Break 1 How did John Pul II help with fear (26:02) Len - I met him 2 times during World Youth Day. Just had a lot of love from him. I call him St. John Paul the Great. He's someone who was part of my life (I'm 73). Beautiful duirng the Terri Schiavo experience. Randy - I was at the Mass in Chicago in '79. I was young and it was very moving. I've never had a more uplifting experience. (33:47) Chuck - I met him and kissed his ring at World Youth Day in 1993. I was blessed to be a sacristan for the Mass. He wanted to meet everyone who was part of the Mass. Looked in his eyes and never felt more love. (38:49) Break 2 (40:56) Peter - The night before he was attacked, I had a dream that the Pope was attacked. I woke up and was horrified. Early on in the morning, they broke the news that he had been attacked. Since then, I've had close ties with him and have experienced several miracles. Barbara - In 1981, we were at his Mass and where he was shot. Got within inches of touching him. (48:48) Sederica - Grew up with him. Remember when he was elected. Were shocked that he wasn't Italian (I'm Italian). When he died, I got married and 6 months later, my husband got cancer. I remember praying to him. Hadn't been beatified yet. Woke up and asked him to save my husband. Offered a job at JPII Shrine in DC and talked about his life to visitors.

Send us a textA scarred face, a steadfast gaze, and a nation that refused to bow—this is the living story of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa. We travel from the mist of legend to the grit of history, tracing how a single icon at Jasna Gora became a fortress of faith and a compass for Poland's identity. You'll hear how the 1655 siege transformed a monastery into a rallying cry, why a king vowed Mary as Queen of Poland, and how coronations, crowns, and countless pilgrim offerings turned devotion into a public vow that survived partitions, world wars, and communist pressure.Along the way, we unpack the icon's arresting symbolism: Mary's hand pointing to Christ, the Hodegetria pose that centers the way forward; the two slashes on her cheek that restorers could not erase; and the darkened hue that countless candles and centuries deepened into a sign of universal motherhood. We then step into the twentieth century, where clandestine prayers bloomed into the Solidarity movement, workers wore the Black Madonna close to their hearts, and a young Karol Wojtyla—later Saint John Paul II—returned again and again to entrust his homeland and papacy to her care. This is a pilgrimage of memory and meaning: footsteps on hot roads, whispered rosaries under watchful eyes, tears of gratitude before a mother who stands with her children. If stories of faith, courage, and national renewal speak to you, press play and walk with us to Bright Mountain. Friends of the Rosary,Today, October 7, is the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary. The feast was instituted to honor the Virgin Mary in thanksgiving for the Christian victory over the Turks and Ottoman Empire at Lepanto on October 7, 1571.The naval victory, which saved Europe from being overrun by Islamic forces, was a divine favor granted through the recitation of the Rosary of Mary. Pope St. Pius V and all Christians had prayed the Rosary for victory. The Feast is a great festival of thanksgiving for the signal and countless benefits bestowed on Christendom through the Rosary of our Blessed Queen, Mary Help of Christians.Across history, successive popes have urged the faithful to pray the Rosary.Pope Benedict XVI invited all families to pray the Rosary, “It is a contemplative and Christocentric prayer, inseparable from the meditation of Sacred Scripture. It is the prayer of the Christian who advances in the pilgrimage of faith, in the following of Jesus, preceded by Mary.”Saint John Paul II said, “The rosary does indeed ‘mark the rhythm of human life,' bringing it into harmony with the ‘rhythm' of God's own life, in the joyful communion of the Holy Trinity, our life's destiny and deepest longing. Through the rosary, the faithful receive abundant grace, as though from the very hands of the Mother of the Redeemer.”The Rosary is a contemplative, mental, and vocal prayer, biblically inspired, that centers on meditation on the salvific mysteries of Christ in union with Mary, and brings down God's blessing on the faithful.Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”Reverence feels like a relic from another time, yet its absence leaves us spiritually and relationally impoverished. Greg Schlueter, author and family movement leader, joins Jack to explore why reverence matters in an age that devalues in human life itself. The conversation takes us deep into the transformative power of reverence – not as empty ritual, but as the gateway to authentic relationship. "Our bodies, in fact our bodies alone, make visible the invisible, the spiritual and the divine," drawing from Saint John Paul II's profound theology of the body. When we genuflect, bow our heads, or dress respectfully for sacred spaces, we're not merely performing – we're allowing our physical selves to express spiritual realities. This crisis of reverence extends far beyond church walls. Our casual approach to commitments – showing up late, dismissing obligations, treating our word as provisional – reflects a deeper spiritual problem. "The enemy strikes at the heart of this by saying commitment is not sacred, it's dismissible," Greg explains. When everyday promises become optional, authentic community crumbles. Here's Gregs article: The Case for Reverence in an Age of Casualness"I Love my Family" Live it todayJack's Latest Blog: Stepping Up to True Love: The Fall and the Call to Be a Man of GodSupport the show
May is the month of Mary. In this week's episode we visit the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception to learn about the history of the month of Mary and popular Marian devotions, such as praying the rosary. The Rosary is a Scripture-based prayer. It begins with the Apostles' Creed, which summarizes the great mysteries of the Catholic faith. The Our Father, which introduces each mystery, is from the Gospels. The first part of the Hail Mary is the angel's words announcing Christ's birth and Elizabeth's greeting to Mary. St. Pius V officially added the second part of the Hail Mary. The Mysteries of the Rosary center on the events of Christ's life. There are four sets of Mysteries: Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious and––added by Saint John Paul II in 2002––the Luminous. Learn more about how to pray rosary. https://www.usccb.org/how-to-pray-the-rosary May is also Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. In this week's episode we highlight a story out of the Diocese of Tulsa which reflects the diversity and richness of our faith! Fr. Samuel Perez, Pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Miami, Oklahoma celebrates mass every weekend in Chuukese for local Micronesian Catholics in addition to five other masses in English and Spanish. People in the pews wear brightly colored traditional clothing and hairstyles. One Micronesian family from southwest Missouri makes the almost two-hour drive to hear Scriptures, prayers and songs in Chuukese. Adding a weekly Mass in Chuukese has improved not just Mass attendance but religious education enrollment at Sacred Heart, from 30 students to 120. Baptisms are up too: Father Perez's calendar in May had 11 baptisms for members of the Micronesian community. Farming jobs attracted many of Oklahoma's Micronesian natives from the island of Chuuk in the South Pacific. For their part, the community members are grateful that Father Perez has worked to learn their language and integrate their culture into the worship experience. “It shows that he really cares,” one altar server said. Father Perez points out that he made a lot of pronunciation mistakes early on, and he's still learning. There was no textbook; he caught on by repeating words his parishioners taught him. “They were very patient with me,” he said. “My accent is thick. I don't know how much they understand me, but it looks like they're OK with it.” Father Perez wants every Catholic to feel welcome and included in their Church home. “When God calls you to be a priest, you are called to serve all people.” The Diocese of Tulsa is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary jubilee year. Click here learn more about the Diocese and the Chuukese Catholic Community at Sacred Heart Church: https://dioceseoftulsa.org/ Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II, patriarch of Alexandria, Egypt, was at the Vatican to mark the 50th anniversary of a joint declaration signed by St. Paul VI and Pope Shenouda III in 1973 outlining the beliefs shared by their churches. Pope Tawadros II called for unity between Catholics and Copts during Pope Francis' general audience. Friends of the Rosary,Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi, when we commemorate the institution of the Eucharistic sacrament and celebrate our faith in the Eucharist.Saint John Paul II reminded us, “the Church solemnly bears in procession the Eucharist, publicly proclaiming that the sacrifice of Christ is for the salvation of the whole world.”The Eucharist gives us confidence that Christ abides with us through all the sorrows of our life, sanctifying us and leading us to his presence in heaven.J.R.R. Tolkien wrote, “Out of the darkness of my life, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament. There you will find romance, glory, honor, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves on earth.”Today's Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ reflects the devotional movement on the Sacrament of the Altar. It's also a doctrinal response to heretical teaching on the mystery of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. It was extended to the entire Latin Church by Urban IV in 1264.In the main reading of the Gospel (Luke 9:11b–17), Christ Jesus miraculously feeds a crowd of five thousand with loaves and dried fish. He makes a meal that satisfies and gives sustenance for the day to this enormous group of tired and hungry people.Thomas Aquinas explained that the great metaphor for the Eucharist is sustenance, daily food for the journey. As the body needs physical nourishment to get us through the day-to-day, the spirit needs spiritual nourishment. In our spiritual life, we must eat and drink, or we will not have strength.Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Daniel Potvin is a former lumberjack turned Catholic warrior, whose conversion through suffering, Medjugorje, and the sacraments led him to found the Knights of Saint John Paul II: a bold, grassroots movement of lay Catholic men now active in 15 countries. Potvin shares his raw, inspiring story of healing, spiritual warfare, and masculine devotion rooted in the rosary, confession, Scripture, and Eucharistic adoration. From confronting demonic activity to defending families at school board meetings, the Knights are reclaiming ground for Christ, one Saturday at a time. Potvin's message is clear: Catholic men are called to fight, not with fists, but with faith.Men can also learn more about the Knights here: https://knightsofsaintjohnpaulii.org/U.S. residents!
