OP.™ – short for Office of Possibilities – is a multi-disciplinary design studio that creates objects and spaces based on well-informed strategic ideas. Their competences span architecture, art direction, exhibition design, industrial design, brand strategy, graphic design and innovation strategy.I've been following them since they moved into their Gothenburg studio, in the same building where I was living at the time. Since then, they have built a formidable portfolio of projects involving brand identity, product design, architecture, exhibition design, and more; with clients such as Volvo, Ikea, H&M, Voi Scooters, and Elektron Music Machines.For this conversation, I went back to my old neighborhood and sat down with co-founders Petter Hillinge and Caspar Andrén. När ingenjören Gunnar Asplund började utveckla elvägar fick han höra att det var vansinnigt. Men nu vill regeringen ha 300 mil elvägar till år 2035. Och snart ska det byggas en längre testväg i Sverige världens första. Det var det dummaste vi hört, sa de på Trafikverket när Gunnar Asplund kontaktade dem första gången, med sina tankar om att bygga elvägar i Sverige. Det var för mer än tio år sedan och Gunnar Asplund hade hoppat av en framgångsrik karriär på ABB och startat sitt eget företag inom elvägsutveckling, alltså vägar som laddar el till eldrivna bilar. Han testade sin teknik i en verkstad i Huvudsta, Solna. Men sedan dess har tongångarna ändrats, det har byggts flera teststräckor för riktiga bilar och Trafikverket har nu fått ett regeringsuppdrag att ta fram en plan för elvägar, en plan på att Sverige ska ha 300 mil elvägar år 2035. Somliga ser det som en teknik enbart för tung trafik eftersom det är där det är svårast att få eldrift enbart med laddningsbara batterier att fungera - batterierna blir alldeles för stora, tunga och dyra, och räcker inte för långkörningar, som det verkar idag. Men Gunnar Asplund och flera andra som arbetar med elvägar tror på de tekniker som också  kan fungera för personbilar då skulle det inte behövas lika mycket laddningsinfrastruktur, med snabbladdare, och batterierna skulle inte behöva vara så stora. Billigare och miljövänligare i långa loppet, säger förespråkarna. Kritikerna säger att andra tekniker, både med bättre batterier och vätgasteknik, gör det dumt att låsa fast sig vid en elvägssatsning. I Vetenskapspodden förklarar vi hur det är tänkt och diskuterar vi för och nackdelar med tekniken. Och får höra om utvecklingen från Gunnar Asplunds snurrande elbana  i en källarlokal i Huvudsta, till den längre teststräcka på en vanlig trafikerad väg som nu ska byggas, antingen på väg 73 från Nynäshamn eller sträckan Örebro - Hallsberg. Den 1 februari ska Trafikverket komma med sin rapport till regeringen där vi får veta mer om hur det blir med elvägsplanerna. Scarpa, Aldo Rossi ou Paola Chiarante répondent par la métaphysique, en affirmant une architecture éternelle et indépendante de toute existence humaine, à l'instar de la géométrie de Platon. Han har den hemliga och utmanande uppgiften att skapa formen för presentationen för den svenska Bocuse-kandidaten Alexander Sjögrens tävlingsrätter. Kockar idag är som trollkarlar, utbrytarkungar de skapar en föreställning, ett spektakel av naturliga ting. Klenell är inspirerad av Houdini, art nouveau och för kommunicera den svenska särart som tävlingsreglerna efterlyser, har han tittat på svensk modernister som Gunnar Asplund och Sigurd Lewerentz och bland annat skapat formelement med svepande kurvor i materialen glas och mässing.

Abstract: The Woodland Cemetery was designed and constructed over a period of 25 years, by Sigurd Lewerentz and Gunnar Asplund and in its completed form bears very little resemblance to the competition winning scheme. Recognised as one of the great “Modernist” landscapes, the history of its design shows that rather than the transcription of an idea, its form is the result of the repeated reconsideration and erasure of its earlier incarnations. By assembling the available fragments drawings, and placing them in the context of the architectural projects carried out by the authors over the same period, the struggle to overcome the memory of past architectures in order to produce a new synthesis is seen as analogous to the “Trauerarbeit” of mourning. Biography: Kevin Fellingham is principal of Kevin Fellingham Architecture + Urbanism. He worked at Rick Mather Architects and Arup Associates, and was a Design Fellow at Cambridge University. He is a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and of MIT, where he won the Ralph Adams Cram Award for outstanding interdisciplinary research. His House J in South Africa won the World Architecture News House of the Year Award in 2007.

Någonstans mellan konst, vetenskap och arkitektur. Där rör sig Tomás Saraceno som just nu är aktuell med en utställning på Bonniers Konsthall i Stockholm. Tomás Saraceno, född 1973, har sina rötter i Argentina, men har bott i både Sydamerika och Europa. Han är utbildad arkitekt och konstnär och extremt intresserad av spindelnätets speciella egenskaper som ett av de starkaste material som finns. I nära samarbete med vetenskapsmän har han återskapat ett tredimensionellt spindelnät. Det är han först med. Och på Bonniers Konsthall har han fyllt ett helt rum med en uppförstorad modell av ett nät vävt av en ”svart änka”. Tomás Saraceno skapar också alternativa städer och drömmer om att kolonisera rymden med samhällen efter samma principer som internet. Berlinarkitekten Heike Hanada vann tävlingen om en utbyggnad av Stockholms berömda Stadsbibliotek, signerat Gunnar Asplund.  Efter en sex år lång process för att få fram en lämplig utbyggnad lade stadens politiker i höstas förslaget på is, ett beslut som fortfarande inte fått någon vettig förklaring. I måndags kväll berättade Heike Hanada om sin upplevelse av tävlingen på en debatt i Stockholm. Ruben Östlund belönades nyligen med en Guldbjörn på filmfestivalen i Berlin för sin kortfilm om ett misslyckat rån. I Snittet hör ni honom berätta hela filmen i radio, och hur han själv funderat kring vår bild av brott och brottslighet.  Brottsligheten befinner sig för det mesta långt ifrån filmernas dramatiska skeenden, menar han - den är betydligt vardagligare än vi tror. Snittet: Elitens skola. 2005 blev hamnade Dramatiska Institutet i blåsväder sedan en elev läst upp en text som uppfattades pornografisk, för en grupp sexåringar - samtidigt som de filmades. Händelsen resulterade i en mediestorm där DI blev stämplat som pedofilhögskolan i allmänhetens ögon. I januari fick Konstfack hård kritik sedan en elev spelat självmordsbenägen som en del av ett konstprojekt. Får man överträda vilka gränser som helst som elev på elitskolor som Dramatiska Institutet och Konstfack? Finns det rentav förväntningar på att man ska gå för långt?
