Argentinian artist Tomás Saraceno's studio is two big and old industrial units covered in graffiti, in what was East Berlin. This was where the company AGFA developed and made the chemicals that made colour photography possible. The ground is so polluted Saraceno's lease forbids him from growing any vegetables, and this matters to this environmentally concerned artist. But the industrial past of Studio Saracen is fitting as Tomás' work is highly technical. Here he has an architecture department, an arachnid research laboratory and an engineering works. He has about 40 people working on different projects. Tomás talks to Julian May about some of his projects, including Aerocene - sculptural hot air balloons that ascend and fly without the use of any fossil fuels, by capturing the reflected heat of the sun. His ambition is to create a kind of slow aviation, in which his balloons circumnavigate the globe on air currents.

Sometimes the things we fear live as intimately within us as the things we love. These fears are rarely distant from us: we are sometimes closely implicated in them, and fear is a visceral, personal experience. Fear and anxiety can be irrational, or rooted in realities that threaten us unevenly. When can we transform our phobia into an embrace? How do we find ways to live alongside the threats of the world? And how are artists working closely – and in nuanced ways – with the instinctive feeling of fear? Featuring an interview with Webs of Life artist Tomás Saraceno, an original sound work by Lamin Fofana, a reading by P. To witness a Tomás Saraceno exhibition is to truly understand the value that art can have in awakening your senses. Words used to describe his work include ethereal, profound, and brave. One well-known gallery owner even went as far as saying he was "the artist most likely to change the world." But setting hyperboles aside, Tomás is simply someone who wants to relay a very important message to us. Employing techniques such as installation, sculpture, and photography, he carries an urgent message from the world of the arachnids – which is if we don't learn about our humble place in the universe, we face a highly untenable situation as a species. Saraceno transcends mere spectacle, using his work as a powerful instrument to inspire, educate, and influence. His relentless pursuit has led him into a partnership with the mysterious, at times otherworldly, and ancient species—the spider—revealing profound insights about our delicate place within the cosmos. It would be an understatement to emphasise just how much he shares a love for these odd, otherworldly creatures. If you haven't yet experienced one of Saraceno's expansive exhibitions, you are truly missing out. During our chat, Tomás delves into his new science developed around spiders, his experiences with Ayahuasca, his childhood reflections, and thoughts on ChatGPT and technology, and passionately discusses why our perception of the green economy is fundamentally flawed.

In the studio of Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno, there's an expected sound—vibrations of a spider working on its web—a sound normally imperceptible to the human ear, but that doesn't make it any less real. The recent technological feat of capturing and recording the sound of a spider is just one of the many pursuits undertaken by the Berlin-based artist. Saraceno is known for working with experts from the field of science, engineering, and architecture among others, to create works that exist beyond the traditional bounds of the art world. These research intensive, often groundbreaking installations and projects render visible our interconnectedness with one another and the ecosystems in which we exist. They've even earned him some world records. It's an ambitious undertaking and it has solidified him as one of the most impactful artists of our generation. For Saraceno's first major U.K. solo exhibition, which opens on June 1 at Serpentine in London, Saraceno and his collaborators are moving beyond the walls of the museum of Serpentine South, from the Royal Parks in London all the way to the rural communities of Argentina where people are fighting to stop lithium extraction in their lands, to Cameroon where Spider Diviners challenging our notions about knowledge. At the Serpentine, “Web(s) of Life” delves into critical and urgent questions about how we as people coexist with other life forms and how technology intersects with the climate emergency itself.

Well... it seems we have been sucked into an alternate reality between this weeks episode and last week, as in the Giants see to be finally taking their shape after Week 4 and the Yankees season comes to an unfortunate end. In episode four of New York Sport of Mind, the Giants FINALLY enter the win column with a huge 27-21 win on the road in New Orleans. Danny Dimes lives up to his name, Saquon Barkley is gaining more yards and TDs as the season goes on, and the Giants have a lot of momentum going into their Week 5 matchup with divisional opponent Dallas. Funny we mention the Cowboys (Boooo), as you can see in the title, the boys have their FIRST GUEST of the series! Die-hard Cowgirls fan, and brother to co-host Bruno, is friend to the show Vince Saraceno! Vince gives his is thoughts on their season so far as well as the highly anticipated matchup on Sunday. I'll keep the Yankees section short and sweet, after winning 9 out of their last 12 games and securing a spot in the AL Wild Card game, the Yankees lost against the Red Sox... that's all we really need to say. Cole had a disappointing start... the bats weren't as active as they needed to be... Phil Nevin low-key screwed up. The dream is dead for the 2021 season, and all eyes are on what the boys upstairs do in this coming off-season.  We are also introducing a new segment on the show, the "New York Minute", while we do pride ourselves on being a Yankees, GIants, Knicks podcast, we do know that there more sports in the Empire State then just these three's. Every week, Austin will give a short recap of the rest of the professional sports around the state. Also a friendly reminder for those who may not know, we have SOCIAL MEDIA accounts! If you have any questions that you want answered on the show, or just want to give us a follow and support the crew, you can follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram by simply searching, "New York Sport of Mind Podcast"! A new type of fashionista is taking the design world by storm but the supermodels have four legs instead of two. Reporter JP Devlin takes us inside the world of canine couture or fashion for dogs. Which country loves to share bears and where do goats get laughs? Internet expert and writer An Xiao Mina reveals how our favourite animal memes reveal a lot about the culture of our countries. This spring, as lockdowns were enforced across the globe, The Cultural Frontline started a project in collaboration with the British artist and producer Nick Ryan. Our aim was simple: to collect the sounds that you, our listeners, had heard wherever you were during lockdown. Now Nick Ryan returns to share some of those sounds and to also debut an extract from a new work he has created from those sonic submissions. Have you ever wondered what a spider sounds like? Argentine artist Tomás Saraceno is fascinated by spiders. It has led him to study them, to incorporate them into his visual art and to create music with them in what he calls ‘Spider Jam Sessions.' Tomás spoke to Chi Chi about making music from the vibrations of spider webs for his latest concert. Presented by Chi Chi Izundu Image: Bodhi. Credit: @mensweardog

Meet JenThe Air Force somehow managed to recruit Jen from Capitol Hill, where she served as a House of Representatives congressional legislative staff member for two Members of Congress during a 7-year career. In 2000, she joined the Air Force for the opportunity to serve and lead. In the past 20 years, Jen has held positions at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels and served as the Commander of the Air Force's largest airborne ISR squadron. She is currently assigned to the Joint Staff where she serves as a Special Projects Officer.Jen is a graduate of the Air Force School of Advanced Air and Space Studies and working on her PhD through Air University. She is also a graduate of the United States Air Force Weapons School's Intelligence Weapons Instructor Course—where the service builds its tactical experts and instructors. Jen's tactical and operational level experience includes two volunteer assignments to Korea and 3 deployments to the USCENTCOM AOR. Her strategic-level experience goes beyond her time on the Joint Staff. She served two CSAF's in a close advisory capacity through the CSAF's Strategic Studies Group and contributed substantially to benchmark international programs, airpower development, and capstone strategy development.Jen is currently writing a book on leadership and wellness. She also volunteers her time as a member of the Air Force Barrier Analysis Working Group Women's Initiative Team where she advocates for removing barriers that impede the retention and advancement of women in the military.Jen's Parting Thoughts1. Decide to put your oxygen mask on first! It may be a bit cliché these days to say this, but it's a must do. I learned this the hard way. Find the time to take care of you…and you'll have greater ability to take care of others!2. Create a wellness plan. Maybe it's 10 mins a day hiding in your closet to meditate while the kids play, maybe it's finding a professional to talk to, maybe you develop a fitness routine…whatever it is, just do something for you.3. As you do #1 and #2…Spend time getting to know yourself…who you really are, what makes you tick…personally and professionally. Rumble with your own vulnerability. And if you are truly doing the work, you will uncover things that suck…and that's the messy part. But that's okay. It's not easy work, but focusing on yourself and adhering to your wellness plan can help you work through it.4. Be yourself and don't try to be anyone else. Be okay--more than okay--with who you are. The world needs you.Recommended ReadingsBooks that inspired Jen as a as she worked through burn-out (more books and podcast links on her blog site)**Dare to Lead, by Dr. Brene Brown**Well-Being Ultimatum, by Dr. Suzie Carmack https://www.drsuziecarmack.comContact JenJen's Blog: www.jensaraceno.com· Email: info@jensaraceno.com· LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/jensaraceno1Twitter: @jensaraceno
