"It's most costly in the wasted human energy and time that goes into things that people in the end don't care about. That is what's the most frustrating to me, seeing people pour their energy with the hope that it's going to pay off, and then in the end, when people shrug, it's just so demoralizing."- Jake Knapp In this episode of the Facilitation Lab podcast, host Douglas Ferguson converses with Jake Knapp, co-founder and general partner at Character Capital, and a former Google employee instrumental in developing Gmail and Google Meet. Another fun pod today. We start with the huge win of Ryan Peake in the New Zealand Open, without being dismissive of the past, it is a wonderful redemption story and Mark says a great example of what second chances can do. Mark and Nick both want to get Ryan on the pod when he is back in Australia. However, Mark is not a fan of the NZ Open being a Pro-Am calling it 'garbage'. Nick understands why it is and proposes a compromise approach, Mark then offers an alternate compromise.Jake Knapp's 59 at PGA National needs to be analysed by Mark Allen's patented 'Talk Birdie To Me 59 Analyser'. Which he does. Nick discusses Jakes plug shot out of the water.Joe Highsmith. What is with that hat, and what about that putting? Discussions are had, and laughs are had. Both are ridiculous. And why does Mark Allen call Ricky Pointing a 'disgrace' ? Trouble in paradise. We discuss Luke Clanton getting his card and his Dad's beautiful reaction, which gives Nick an idea about Q-School mini's...he reckons riveting viewing. Speaking of riveting viewing, for the wrong reasons. Mark plays the famous video of Joe Daly at Q-School in 2000. Brutal. We play a video of Jeff Guan's driving, looking pretty sharp. A tough road for him, but we wish him all the best.Marks Top 5 today is a cracker. The Top 5 ridiculous putting actions on tour that he has seen. It is very funny. Has he missed any? Let us know.Couple of stunning reno's in Sydney: Royal Sydney, and NSW Golf Club, we look at some pics of both and discuss.Lots of results to run through in the PING Global results, in what has been a big week for lefties. Unsurprisingly, Nick is pleased with that. And we run through some feedback, Mark gets a whack from Wolfpack member Don, and Mark gives tour pro David Micheluzzi a whack (again!). This could end in court. Lucky we've got our lawyer Dennis Denuto on retainer. And a great masterclass from Nick, inspired by Jake Knapp, on how to play plugged lies.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf; The watchMynumbers app, play smarter and use your data.
A Frankie & Trent show. The boys recap their weekend at Pebble; including terrific golf from Riggs. Jake Knapp's disappointing finish & Joe Highsmith's victory at the Cognizant. Rickie Fowler's clap back at a fan. The loaded Seminole Pro-Member. And… will Tiger will play at the Players Championship? We also take a few voicemails for a new edition of From The Gallery. You can find every episode of this show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or YouTube. Prime Members can listen ad-free on Amazon Music. Joe Highsmith went from barely making the cut to his first PGA Tour win with an exemplary weekend at the Cognizant Classic to kick of the the "Florida Swing" at PGA National. Jake Knapp fired a sizzling 59 on Thursday to jump out to a lead but was not able to keep the good playing going through 72 holes as he and the rest of the field were passed by Highsmith on the weekend to grab the title. Luke Clanton made another PGA Tour cut and got his tour card through the PGA Tour University accelerated program. It has been a spectacular and unique rise for Clanton who has done it mostly by great play in PGA Tour tournaments. We even dare to raise the question about the number one amatuer in the world... Would Keegan Bradley think about making him a captains pick for the Ryder Cup this fall? With Angel Cabrera coming back to the Masters and a former Australian biker gang member qualifying for the Open Championship at Royal Portrush, we dig into some of the felonies committed during PGA Tour events. Jeff will also discuss a current legal situation between Tony Finau and some agents he had early in his career. Tim dives into this week in YouTube golf which saw John Daly and his son take on Grant Horvat and Phil Mickelson as the big YouTube golf of the week. This week, Joe Highsmith wins the Cognizant Classic much to the chagrin of Mr. 59 Jake Knapp. Plus, the TGL is heading to playoffs, Knoop says dumb things and Making The Cut: Positions. The post Episode 359 – One Bad Hole appeared first on Drive The Green Golf.
This Monday episode quickly gets into the Sunday finish at the Cognizant Classic, where Jake Knapp melted on the back nine and Joe Highsmith shot a 64 to secure his first PGA Tour win. Andy takes no pride in a successful double-down on Knapp not winning after Thursday's 59 and wonders how he keeps getting himself in these situations with his takes. Highsmith and his caddie, Joe LaCava Jr., get props from Brendan and Andy for back-to-back 64s on the weekend, earning the win after making the cut on the number. Brendan shares some on-the-ground reports from a listener about the "worst edition" of the PGA National event yet. The two also touch on performances from Russell Henley, Doug Ghim, and Michael Kim, among others. Most importantly, Andy is thrilled that world No. 92, Luke Clanton, finally secured his PGA Tour card! From there, the two discuss a rain-shortened South African Open, where a runner-up finish secured Laurie Canter's place in the top 50 of the OWGR. Brendan openly wonders if the PGA Tour will let the former Cleek take his rightful place in the field at The Players. Lydia Ko won the HSBC Championship in dominant fashion for her 23rd career win. Andy's interest in biker gangs was rewarded at the New Zealand Open, where former biker gang member Ryan Peake won the event and a spot in The Open Championship this summer. Some news from the weekend is discussed, including the all-important TGL playoff push happening Monday and Tuesday. Nick Dunlap has signed a one-day deal with the Atlanta Drive, but Andy is wondering if their organization is laying down to keep the Ballfrogs out of the playoffs. The two discuss the Seminole Pro-Member field and a possible Tiger Woods appearance at TPC Sawgrass next week. To end the episode, Andy, Brendan, and PJ come up with some ideas for a PGA Tour Scouting Combine to celebrate the NFL Combine in Indianapolis coming to a close. Who's your pick to beat Sepp Straka in an Oklahoma drill?

Andy and Brendan have a lot to talk about for this Friday episode with the first round of the Cognizant proving to be a content bonanza. Billy Horschel was chasing alligators and criticizing the setup, PGA Tour Championship Management destroyed a once-proud event, and golf superstar Jake Knapp opened his week with a 59! The two discuss all of these topics and the storied history of The Honda Classic and remember how tough PGA National used to play. Andy shares the list of previous winners at the course and notes how many of them are top-tier legends of the game. Brendan rants about PGA Tour Championship Management overseeding the course and allowing the course record to be shattered on Thursday of the tournament. They briefly discuss the South African Open and HSBC Women's World Championship before diving into some golf news ahead of the weekend. Annika Sorenstam has thrown her support behind former Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott to take over as the LPGA commish, leading to all of the sports world mocking this idea. There's some debate about whether any worse choices are out there, and if there are, it's decided that there are very few. Andy announces that he's been invited to a watch party for the big LAGC vs. The Bay match on Monday morning Pacific Time and wonders if he should make an appearance. In Golf Advice, a late submission commiserates with Andy about Jake Knapp's 59 and an emailer asks for advice on an upcoming golf trip. To end this episode, PJ has a short Flashback Friday about the 1971 PGA Championship at the original PGA National, the first time the event was held in February.

Design sprints have become a staple of the creative process at companies around the world and an indispensable tool in the pursuit of innovation. We owe a debt of thanks to Jake Knapp and his former colleagues at Google Ventures (now known as GV) who pioneered the design sprint. Visit our Substack for bonus content and more: https://designbetterpodcast.com/p/jake-knapp-click There is one gap that design sprints have not entirely addressed, though. What do you do if you're starting a new product or company from scratch? That is the subject of Jake Knapp and co-author John Zeratsky's newest book, Click: How to make what people want. Jake lays out the elements of what he calls a “foundation sprint” in this book. We chat with Jake about what makes a foundation sprint different than a design sprint, and some examples from the book of companies that have used foundation sprints effectively. We also talk to Jake about his decision to start Character, a VC fund aimed at helping startups at seed stage with capital and sprints, and the qualities that they look for in their founders when deciding to invest. Pre-order "Click" Bio Jake Knapp is a New York Times bestselling author and co-founder of Character. Previously, Jake built products like Microsoft Encarta and Gmail, co-founded Google Meet, and invented the Design Sprint. He has coached hundreds of teams at places like Miro, Slack, LEGO, IDEO, and NASA on product strategy and time management, and is a guest instructor at Harvard Business School. This is Jake's third appearance on Design Better. In his first interview with us, he discusses Sprint, and in his second interview he talks about his (and John Zeratsky's) book Make Time.
