"Run hard, risk heartbreak." Today's podcast is the story of Heartbreak Hill Running Company. Heartbreak Hill Running Company was established in 2009 by Dan Fitzgerald and Justin Burdon. Today on the podcast I have the privilege of diving deep into this story with Co-Founder and Chief Heartbreaker Dan Fitzgerald. Dan is an incredible man who brings out the best in others. Throughout all of his work, he has inspired countless lives. Dan and I dive deep into his own personal story, the story of Heartbreak, the sacrifice it has taken to get this far, and so much more. This conversation will go down as one of my favorites. It was a very light-hearted conversation surrounding many interesting topics. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we did! Chicago! We headed to Heartbreak Hill Running Co. for a special live recording featuring Bowerman Track Club athletes Moh Ahmed, Ryan Hill and Evan Jager alongside Dan Fitzgerald, Chief Heartbreaker and Co-Founder of Heartbreak Hill Running Company. We spend the first couple minutes of the show marveling at Eliud Kipchoge's 1:59:40 marathon in Vienna. The guys share how long they think they would be able to hang with the GOAT and what impresses them the most about them. The guys share the stories about each of their respective starts in the sport, what got them hooked and then how they are using their own experiences to influence the next generation of runners through the Bowerman Track Club's programs with youth runners. Plus, they shed some insight into bridging the gap between the running community's general population and those who are knowledgable about the sport after a few days with Heartbreak Hill Running Co. Individually, Moh puts listeners in his shoes for his bronze medal run from the recent IAAF World Championships in Doha. Ryan Hill shares where he's been in 2019 and how overcoming an Achilles injury was able to set him up for 2020. Evan Jager details his injury-plagued year and what it was like to miss out on the world championships. All of that and more including the final four questions that we ask every guest, which yielded some incredibly funny anti-doping stories from the guys. ❤️ Support for this episode of the CITIUS MAG Podcast comes from THE FEED. Love is in the air for HWYRT! This week, Bryan and Peter join Coach Dan, Justin, and Gorilla Bill for the annual LoveFest at the Heartbreak Hill Running Company. While runners mingle, shop, and try the treadmills, Peter and Bryan chat with the enthusiastic crowd. They connect with runners of all kinds - experienced marathoners, first-time marathoners, and first-time runners period! - who are raising funds or supporting other charity runners for the Boston Marathon. Of course Peter and Bryan get to chat with the lucky raffle winners (listen in to see who gets the big prize and Gorilla Bill’s banana tips!), and then they are joined by Adrianne Haslet to talk about the strides she's making in her recovery from a terrible accident. This episode of HWYRT is brought to you by Little Hear Show, a new Podcast coming to you this summer. Please visit www.HWYRT.com
Bryan and Peter are back in their podcasting second home at the Boston Public Library! First, Bryan gives an update on his training for the Boston Marathon, where he will be guiding friend-of-the-show Tim Sullivan to support Team With A Vision. He also shares some workout advice he got from Coach Paul Davies, and talks about how he's facing the immense changes in weather. Plus, Peter shares how he's training his diet (also a marathon, not a sprint!) while continuing PT for his foot injury. Then, they are joined by special guests Kiah Quarles and Imani Graham, both first-time marathoners who are running for the brand new Boston Public Library charity team. Kiah and Imani describe the excitement of hitting big mile markers as they build up their distance, how they've been managing their training and fundraising, and, of course, how they strap on the feedbag. They also talk about their athletic pasts and Imani shares the story of how a traumatic injury changed her life and eventually brought her to distance running. Don't forget to sign up for the LOVE FEST happening next Thursday, February 14th, at the Heartbreak Hill Running Company! Come hang out with fellow runners, shop, or take a class. There will be LIVE PODCASTING and a raffle. At least one lucky Boston Marathon charity runner will walk away with a prize to support their fundraising goal. On February 25th, Tracksmith Hare AC runner and Boston College grad Louis Serafini became the 514th American to break 4 minutes in the mile, running 3:59.33 at Boston University's Last Chance Meet. Louis joined David and co-host Conor Cashin, manager at Heartbreak Hill Running Company and captain of the Heartbreakers club team, to talk about how he did it. We also got very silly and spent much of the episode gently teasing him. Enjoy!
