OTC Tag Changes in Colorado with Henry Ferguson   Show Notes:   Henry Ferguson is a longtime friend of mine and the President of the Colorado Bowhunters Association (CBA). Colorado Parks and Wildlife recently pushed for changes to the OTC tag system, and Henry and I break things down. Archery and bowhunting have become super popular, and there's a lot of folks out in the woods right now. In a way, we're victims of our own success.   Along with the CBA, Henry was pretty involved in the recent OTC rule changes. Here, we take a look at some of the pros and cons of the program changes and what it all means for the hunting community. Henry outlines the three options that were laid out on the table, and staying status quo wasn't going to fly. According to him, they went with the lesser of two evils.   Henry shares what he believes are the benefits of the changes, many of which he says are yet to be seen. I play a bit of a devil's advocate in our conversation and point out some of the potential pitfalls. Deer Hunting Today with Henry Ferguson   Show Notes: For a lot of people, deer hunting is just getting tougher, not easier. In this episode, I talk with big buck hunter Henry Ferguson about the challenges of deer hunting today. Henry's got a great perspective on deer hunting, and we covered the whole gambit.   There are a whole lot of things affecting deer herds. Human population, weather, and loss of habitat are changing how we hunt. Even social media is putting its mark on today's hunters. A lot of these things seem like they're getting worse, not better. So what do we do?   Wildlife management is a good start. Everywhere's different, but here in Arizona, we deal with a trickle rut, which is influenced by buck to doe ratio. I talk a bit about how that affects our herd numbers. Henry's in Colorado, and he questions some of the wildlife management practices they've got going. The truth is, a lot of deer herds are declining and hunting is the only tool we've got to handle that.   “Everybody is hunting for different reasons,” says Henry. Every hunter has their own goals. That's a good thing. It's important to keep that in mind during the hunt. Henry shared some stories about how keeping that in mind helps us enjoy hunting more. People hunting differently means there's less competition, and more success for everyone.   Henry's a great hunter, and he knows his stuff. Title: Bow Hunting & Mule Deer with Henry Ferguson   Show Notes: As I’ve been working through my broadhead testing to find the absolute best bow on the market, I’ve found that I can’t have it all. If I want good penetration, good flight big wound channels, you always have to give up something to gain something.  Henry Ferguson, an avid bow hunting sportsman, and I talk about what we look for in bows and some drawbacks to different designs.   There are so many variables in every hunting situation. You can go with your gut, or you can make the mistake of listening to some friends. Nathan talks about a hunt that ended disastrously because he ignored his own experience and listened to some fellow hunters. And instead of nailing his buck, he totally scared it off. Then he tried a different tactic, and he talks about the two important lessons he learned from this experience.   The energy of your body tunes the animals into what you intend to do. If you want to tip them off every time, do this one move that switches you from innocent bystander to deadly hunter. It’s so amazing how close you can get to an animal they don’t see you as a threat to them. Bringing hope to the lost and disenfranchised hunters who might be 100 sit-ups away from perfection, will be our goal.
