Beginner Fly Fishing Tips How to go about trying fly fishing? Fly fishing is often the last angler learned skill, here is the best way to get a basic start. Find a fly fishing guide or fisherman with experience. They will typically have the gear for you to have your first lessons. Save the money from buying blindly by instead investing in learning seasoned angler. Instead of learning from a spouse or partner; take a class or lesson from an angler that can walk you through the beginning learning. This will save me from having frustration as it can be tricky to learn the rhythm. Practice in cleared areas with your fly rod and line without any hooks. Use an open shortcut grassed yard that allows for free movement of the line without any obstructions to catch. Easy S'more Recipe Yummy Family Favorite Dessert This recipe is from Heather Krohe, Little Rack Taxidermy, that involves everything we love about campfires without having to start a fire.   Ingredients: Marshmallows, chocolate chips, graham crackers. Extra Add-ins: Chopped candy bars such as Reese's Peanut Butter Cups or 3 Musketeers bars. Using a pie tin - spray first lightly with cooking spray, then layer the bottom with marshmallows, sprinkling on top chocolate chips and line graham crackers around the inside of the tin keeping ends sticking up for easy grabbing. Heat the tin using a grill, griddle, oven or stove top until the marshmallows and chocolate are melted. Scoop up the gooey marshmallow mixture with the graham crackers and enjoy!   REFERENCES https://www.healthline.com/health/rattlesnake-bite?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR09llOb4EamegZOp7Gw3iTKyBY7pzphUiJSr0RoBPY4wMd95aodKpFR5lk_aem_oWOG9eiThr1OZcC6o8JTZQ#treatment   FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS Call or Text your questions, or comments to 305-900-BEND or 305-900-2363 Or email BendRadioShow@gmail.com FOLLOW Facebook/Instagram: @thebendshow https://www.facebook.com/thebendshow SUBSCRIBE to The Bend YouTube Channel. This week, we discussed some potential conflicts of interest within Fish and Wildlife commissions and how certain individuals could directly benefit from their votes as commissioners. In Montana, the statewide mule deer permit was recently raffled off by Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, raising a record amount of money for mule deer conservation. Last December, the Duck Stamp Modernization Act was signed into law. This act will allow federal duck stamps to be purchased online, and an E-Stamp will be valid throughout the season. In Tennessee, the Wildlife Resources Agency recently lost its appeal over a previous decision that had ended the use of the open field doctrine within the state. A New study published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that Chronic Wasting Disease is unlikely to transfer from other species to humans. In Washington, the Fish and Wildlife Commission voted to change mountain lion hunting regulations and seasons, reducing hunting opportunities. North Carolina is implementing mandatory fish harvest reporting for certain fish species including Striped Bass and Weakfish, with recommendations for a simple smartphone app to ensure accurate and convenient reporting. When the big game season ends in November, there is a guaranteed influx of goose hunters along the Yellowstone River east of Billings. Since 1958, a portion of the river has been closed to waterfowl hunting. From the junction of the Yellowstone and Bighorn rivers, downstream to the Rosebud-Custer county line, the river has been off-limits to waterfowl hunting. The closure was initiated when goose and duck numbers were low in the region. A survey in 1961 found only 500-some geese. By 2013 the same section held almost 40,000 geese. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks has proposed reopening the river section to hunting. The Fish and Wildlife Commission will consider the idea at its April 17 meeting. Brett French, Billings Gazette outdoor editor, recently wrote about the issue and is here to discuss what he found out.

An Illinois mom is killed and two children seriously injured while parasailing. A storm blew in, affecting the stability of the boat towing the family. Now, the husband of a 33-year-old woman has filed lawsuits naming multiple parties.  A preliminary incident report from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission says boat captain Daniel Couch,49, cut the towing cable when the parasail “pegged” in a high gust of wind, threatening to drag his boat. This resulted in the parasail and the individuals being drug “through and across the surface of the water” and slammed into an abandoned Florida Keys bridge. Supraja Alaparthi, 33, was dead before another boat captain untangled her and the children from the parasail cables and rushed them to a Marathon restaurant where crews had set up a staging area.   Joining Nancy Grace Today: Mark McCulloh - Parasailing Safety Expert, Chairman, Parasail Safety Council   Michael A. This is the first of two live episodes that were recorded at the Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society's 2023 annual meeting in Houston, Texas. The topic of this panel discussion was Equitable Access to the Outdoors, a subject that is timely and important in all areas of the West, but especially important in Texas, where 93% of the state's land is privately owned. Whether your interest is outdoor recreation, public health, climate change, or public-private conservation partnerships, the ability for people to have access to parks, trails, open spaces, and wild places is becoming more and more important with each passing year. - For this conversation, I was joined on stage by five Texas conservation innovators– folks who are working hard to ensure that Texans of all stripes have ample opportunities to spend time outside– whether in the cities or in the state's more rural areas. In order of their appearance in this conversation, we had Jaime González, Healthy Communities Director for the Nature Conservancy; Sarah Coles, Executive Director of the Texas Children in Nature Network; Immanuel Salas, Texas Parks and Wildlife's R3 Coordinator for Hunting and Shooting Sports; Neal Wilkins, President and CEO of the East Foundation; and Joseph Fitzsimons, conservationist and owner of the San Pedro Ranch. You can check out the episode notes for more information on each of the panelists and links to their respective bios and organizations. - I could've spent hours talking to each of the panelists individually, but as a group, we had a very informative and educational conversation– one that provided a different perspective from some of my past episodes that focused on equitable access. we covered a lot in this hour-long discussion, including: the importance of building thriving cities with ample parks, trails, and outdoor space; how these organizations are working to reverse some of the disheartening trends around children's health and their access to the outdoors; the importance of collaborative partnerships, the R3 program in Texas– what it is, why it's important, and how it is evolving; the role of private landowners in providing access opportunities; the importance of youth education; the role of government; public land in Texas; the need to engage with elected officials; favorite books; and much more. - I learned a lot from this conversation and was honored to share a stage with such an impressive group of people who are working so hard on this all-important issue. Click the link in your podcast player to access all of the notes and links from this episode– we've listed tons of excellent resources from this episode. - Thanks to John Kinsey and the Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society for inviting me to host this event, and thank you for listening. Chris Hager and Dan Wilson give a history that started with the Wildlife Commission rejecting a spring black bear season that was supported by the wildlife agency and now brings a strong bias against science and the benefit of hunters and hunting as a wildlife management tool.
