This episode of Greenbelt's ‘Somewhere To Believe In' podcast takes a different form. It's a one-off.It knits together 45-minutes of reflection, conversation, music and prayer in the form of a listen-and-share service to mark the festival's 2021 August Bank Holiday weekend incarnation (its 48th) – when only a fraction of the wider Greenbelt community could actually physically be together at the Prospect Farm pop-up camping gathering. The hope is that the audio form of the service will give everyone the chance to share and be connected in a unifying act of remembrance – wherever they are. Ideally, the audio is designed to be shared in and listened to at 11am on Sunday 29th August. But, of course, it can be listened to at any time. Again and again. The podcast takes its title from a wonderful poem by the poet Roger Robinson. It also features music from Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir and the Wild Goose Resources Group, conversations with activists from Christian Aid, Trussell Trust and Refuweegee and readings and prayers led by Greenbelt's from all corners of the UK. It is lovingly curated and narrated by Pádraig Ó Tuama – poet, theologian, and conflict mediator. (Pádraig also presents 'Poetry Unbound', a podcast from On Being studios.)____ORDER OF SERVICEDownload the order of service here____SUPPORTLast year – despite our not being together – you gave an incredible £33,000 in response to our service appeal. The Holy Spirit comes to a community in the Pentecost story. And so we hear Scriptural reflections from our community. Pastor Megan shares what our Spiritual Leadership Team noticed and wondered about together as we dwelt in this story during Saturday’s meeting (in our morning practice of lectio divina). We are a people who gather around our center, covenanting with one another and our God. We are a people both gathered in and sent out by God’s Spirit. Thanks be to the Holy Spirit of wind and flame! Paul insists to the Galatians that all who follow Jesus are adoptees into the family of God and thus we receive our inheritance...not gold or property but Spiritual riches. As all adoptees know, family is the people who take care of you and who you take care of. Through the Spirit we can focus not on selfish desire but on taking care of each other and building unity.Series: Narrative Lectionary - Year 3 - EastertidePermission to podcast the music in this service obtained from One License with license #A-726929. God is angry at the Hebrew people over their casting of a golden calf for false worship, mere months after God has liberated them from slavery. God is angry. SO angry, in fact, that God seems ready to destroy them all... again. God ultimately relents from punishment and destruction, thanks to Moses and remembered belovedness. But the whole story prompts Pastor Megan to ponder her/our desire for a God of love, the reality of God's anger, and how often love looks more like anger than civility. The Mennonite congregations across Washington State worked together to create a celebration video in honor of Mennonite Central Committee turning 100 years old. We continue our summer worship series in which we listen to and learn from Black preachers. Today: Austin Channing Brown, author of best-selling book, I'm Still Here: Black Dignity in a World Made for Whiteness, and a powerful preacher. We listened to Austin's sermon, from the Evolving Faith Conference 2018, in which she revisits the story of Rizpah, whose sons were killed by King David because of their potential claim to the throne as descendants of former King Saul. In an act of final revenge against King Saul, Rizpah’s sons were hung on an open mountain hillside to decay in reach of scavenging birds and predators. Rizpah was outraged by the murder of her innocent sons, and climbed to the top of the hill where they hung in order to defend their bodies for weeks on end. In her anger and her grief, Rizpah stood up to power to fight for justice and dignity for her sons. Marcus Olson Text Joh 4:442. John L. Bell, with the Mass Historical Society, discusses the life and times of native Bostonian General Henry Knox.
It's the 250th Anniversary this coming March and exhibits are already open at the Massachusetts Historical Society and the Commonwealth Museum already has an exhibit on what led up to that clash. John L. Bell with the Historical Society joins us to talk about it.
Based on (John 1:40-51) “Called to be a Regular Witness for Jesus Christ” invites all followers of Jesus Christ to take their rightful place within the mission of God as witnesses that does not require expert witness training. The business of winning souls for Jesus Christ is every Christian's business and not just the ministers. Philip learnt this lesson early in his ministry with Jesus Christ that all that is needed is to attest to the truth in the most simplistic manner as it is the work of the Holy Spirit to do the convicting. “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” And "Come and see." A simple testimony is what is require. I pray that this Podcast blesses you.Music Credit: William Augusto - Instrumental Worship, soaking in his presence a new season John L. Based on (Luke 14:1, 7-14) “Seeking the Margin” invites listeners of this Podcast to seek the margin rather than the centre of society's class distinction and to identify with those who are disadvantaged and also to demonstrate genuine hospitality that is intentionally directed towards those we are uncomfortable with or who may be different from us. When people are deeply moved by the love we share with them, their lives are changed. I believe this to be our mission, a mission to change the world of injustice to a place where justice reigns supreme as we allow his will to be done here on earth. It is my prayer that this podcast blesses you.Music Credit:William Augusto: Soaking In His Presence (Instrumental Worship)John L. Bell: The Summons (Will you come and follow me) Support this podcast
