Jim Deshaies, better known as JD, once went on a campaign to get one vote for the Hall of Fame. It was all for fun and yes, he did that one vote! Deshaies spent 12 seasons pitching in the big leagues, half of them with the Houston Astros who were then in the National League. Shortly after he retired, JD found himself in the Astros TV booth as an analyst and 16 years later, found himself in the same position at Wrigley Field. He's been with the Cubs for the last 11 seasons adding keen observations while keeping a dry sense of humor. “Mark Grace lost his gig in Arizona," Deshaies says on the show. "The Diamondbacks came hard after Bob Brenly, (who had been with the Cubs) and Len Kasper, the teams lead TV voice said how would you like to come here?” Deshaies said yes and for the last 11 seasons has worked with Kasper and most recently, Jon “Boog” Sciambi. “ Boog's great. We have a lot of fun.”JD has also watched this Cubs team do something few expected them to do, contend for a playoff position Deshaies notes how free agents such as Cody Bellinger and Dansby Swanson have made a huge difference. Bellinger signed a one year deal and Deshaies knows it will take a big number to keep him, especially with Scott Boras as his agent. Now 63, Deshaies has no intentions of retiring. Jon “Boog” Sciambi loves Wrigley Field So much so he says this is his last stop as a team play by play man. Of course, Sciambi is better known for his work with ESPN baseball both TV and radio and this season he takes over as the voice of the World Series on radio. Sciambi has been the voice of the Atlanta Braves and Florida Marlins and happened to be part of the broadcast team that fateful night at Wrigley Field in 2003 . It was the “Bartman” game, game 6 of the NLCS when the fan appeared to interfere with a fly ball. It fueled the Marlins to win the series and ultimately the World Series. Boog now loves working regularly at Wrigley Field.“Just that view, the architecture and beyond the ballpark, it feels like you're being transformed back in time. And it feels completely brand new because it's so beautiful and so special.”Sciambi also embraces baseball's new rules to speed up the game although he's had to adjust to it working in a three man booth. He says the trade off of telling fewer stories while calling a game that has lopped an average of some 25 minutes is well worth it.Make sure to hear "Tell Me A Story I Don't Know" as part of the Last Word On Sports Media Podcast feed and follow/subscirbe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google, etc.!And stay engaged with the content on www.lastwordonsports.com/podcastsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
