Even if you had issues with Richonne's #TWDfamily reunion with RJ & Judith Grimes, the people have spoken in the form of chart-topping ratings.

Talking Through What We Become For episode 112 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Kyle, Mark, and, for the last part of it, Brian talk through The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 13 titled What We Become. This episode was written by Vivian Tse and directed by Sharat Raju. Virgil lippin’ and Michonne trippin’ into some drugged induced flashbacks! We had a lot of callbacks, some weak sauce in Virgil’s a.k.a. Morgan character, and some far-reaching plot devices to push our katana-wielding heroine into the great unknown. Not to say it was a bad episode. We did enjoy it for the most part. Overall just a disappointing sendoff for Michonne. It’s always a joy to see flashbacks.. or in this episode.. drug-induced hallucinations, of some of our favorite characters and epic scenes of seasons past. So with that, heat the kettle. Make a big o’ cup of Jimsonweed and let’s step headfirst into the rabbit hole. Send in your feedback! Please leave your feedback for the next episode, S10E14, titled Look at the Flowers, by 6 PM Eastern/5 PM Central on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. Brian and Mark talk through a detailed analysis of the season 10 premiere of The Walking Dead, Season 10 Episode 1, titled Lines We Cross. This episode was written by Angela Kang and directed by Greg Nicotero. Since AMC Premiere made the season premiere available a week early, we did a first impressions episode that was released Sunday night. Here's a more detailed analysis of the season premiere with your feedback.
Talking Through Lines We Cross We have finally made it to episode 100 of The Walking Dead Talk Through! It seems like it took forever… Well, it took us five years! Thank you, listeners, for all of your enthusiasm and support! We did the first time ever first impressions episode earlier this week, and this time, Mark and I talk through a more detailed analysis of The Walking Dead Season 10 Episode 1, titled Lines We Cross. This episode was written by showrunner Angela Kang, and directed by executive producer Greg Nicotero. Kyle will not be covering the show this season but may appear from time to time. He is behind the scenes this episode, editing (though you may hear that I was going to edit it). A final blast from Fear the Walking Dead… We got a couple of extended pieces of feedback about Fear the Walking Dead’s season finale, S5E16, titled End of the Line from Aaron and Cutter, who also talks about how we have too many characters on both shows and gives us proof! Our more detailed discussion of the season premiere begins 32 minutes and 6 seconds into the episode. Cards are back… We get a return to the use of cards in the episode, with white block text on a black screen. AMC Premiere has a video of the table read for the episode. It was interesting to see how the episode changed from the table read and who wasn’t there. We had: Training Day – There was no Luke and Jules scene during the table read; Dan Fogler wasn’t there during the table read. My guess is that the decision to add that scene was because of something that happens later in the season, and the decision to lengthen this to six acts instead of five.Skin – Called “Stories We Tell” in the table read. Skin is much better, in my opinion. I don’t remember hearing the Highwaymen during the episode? Michonne elaborates on the Rick comment, where she didn’t in the final episode and stops short. Antony Azor wasn’t there during the table read. Callan McAuliffe read RJ’s parts in the table read, and it’s pretty funny.Bird Wisdom – Called “Certain Uncertainty” during the table read. This one had no Negan and Gabriel scene during the table read. I think that the Negan and Lydia scene was expanded but I can’t say for sure. Jeffrey Dean Morgan wasn’t at the table read, and his scenes were read by Ryan Hurst.Sea Dogs – This was called “Daryl and Carol” in the table read. Angel Theory wasn’t there during the table read; Eleanor Matsuura read her pieces. I got a kick out of Norman Reedus’ reaction to some of the lines.New Mexico – There was no card for this one. They split the Daryl and Carol scene into two acts. The original script only had five acts.Lines We Cross – This was called “Where There’s Smoke” in the table read. This act was pretty similar to the table read.Embers – Luke’s lines were read by Avi Nash. He doesn’t call him “Eugenius” in the table read. That was a great addition to the script and it was a lot funnier in the episode. So, are we over-enthusiastic? We are curious about what people who hadn’t been watching Fear think about this season premiere. Did you think it was as good as we thought i

Our First Impressions of Lines We Cross We mentioned last time we had something special planned for episode 99 of The Walking Dead Talk Through! Mark, Kyle (who you know if you listen to us on Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through) and I do something we’ve never done before! We give our first impressions of the season premiere of The Walking Dead, titled Lines We Cross, on the night of the premiere! Season 10 Episode 1 was written by showrunner Angela Kang, and directed by executive producer Greg Nicotero. Because of AMC Premiere, we’re doing something new! AMC Premiere made The Walking Dead season premiere available a week ahead of its airing on AMC. Because of that, we were all able to watch the season premiere several days early! We’ve never done a “first impressions” podcast before, so you will have to let us know what you thought of it! Perhaps we will make it a more regular thing if there’s a demand for it, though I’m not promising! Next time, we will do a more detailed analysis of Lines We Cross! Unlike most episodes, your feedback is NOT a part of this episode, but we will be doing our regular episode for TWDTT 100 with a more detailed analysis of S10E1 Lines We Cross that will be released on the feed later this week, with all of your feedback like you have come to expect. Our first impressions? We have been very critical of Fear the Walking Dead this season. We enjoyed certain aspects of the show, but it missed more often than it hit. Lines We Cross did not leave us with that same feeling. Our first impressions, after we each watched it only once, was that it was great. It’s not the best season premiere ever, but it set up the season well, and it did not have any of the little annoying things Fear had all season long. And I certainly enjoyed it a LOT more than I did the last season finale! Send in your feedback! Please leave your feedback! If you haven’t watched this week’s episode, then you probably should stop now. Visitations from departed friends… and one soon to be A good portion of this episode is seen in hallucinations. Thankfully, we see three people he needs to see. The scene with Shane was priceless. Jon Bernthal was so good in this show in the first two seasons, and seeing Rick and Shane together again, even if only for a short minute, was great. The next hallucination was Hershel, played by the late Scott Wilson. This one really made me cry, both in the joy of seeing Hershel again, and sorrow over Scott Wilson’s recent passing in real life. The third was Sasha. You could argue that Sasha’s character was the only one that probably wasn’t the first choice, but seeing Sonequa Martin-Green’s character again probably hit me the hardest of all. I think that was mostly due to me being attached to because of her portrayal of Michael Burnham on Star Trek: Discovery. One could argue that one should have been Glenn, Abraham, or even Carl, but I think Sasha worked nonetheless. The last vision is with Michonne. I said soon to be, not because she is leaving, too, but because Rick is leaving, and Michonne will lose her partner. Maggie vs. Negan!!! Maggie reaches Alexandria, intent on killing Negan, but Michonne stops her. I thought this would be a standoff between them, but Maggie ultimately convinces Michonne to let her see Negan, despite knowing what would probably happen as a result. Maggie ultimately decides not to kill him, as that would give him the release he does not deserve. How is he not dead? Rick was bleeding throughout the episode, yet does not succumb to his injuries. The bridge explodes, and it seems that Rick somehow escapes without a scratch? How did that happen? He somehow survives both his rebar injury and the explosion and is taken via helicopter to who knows where. These helicopter people!!! We still don’t know what an A or a B is, but we do know that Rick is a B. I guess we may not know more until the first TWD movie comes out. Walking Dead: The Next Generation? In the final scene, we see that there’s been another time jump, as a new group of survivors being surrounded by walkers, only to be rescued by the 10-year-old Judith Grimes! This looks interesting, and we’ll see where the story goes from here! As expected, ratings are up… As you can see from these rating and viewer charts, created by me, you’ll see that ratings were up again, with 2.07 in the 18-49 demographic, slightly above the 1.95 from last week, and 5.414 million viewers, slightly up from 5.095 million last week. What ratings will do after this episode is anyone’s guess. They could go up again, or take another nosedive. Only time will tell.
On episode 87 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark's co-host on Panels to Pixels and frequent contributor Steve Brown joins us, as we talk through The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 5, titled What Comes After. This episode marks Rick's final episode on The Walking Dead, but how that went down took a sharp left turn from what we had expected. into some of what we might have hoped, and, after all the dust cleared and the announcements were made, something we didn't expect.
Talking Through What Comes After!!! On this (longest ever) episode 87 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and I are joined by Mark’s co-host on Panels to Pixels, Steve, as we talk through The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 5, which is titled What Comes After. The teleplay was written by co-executive producer Matthew Negrete, based on a story by TWD Chief Creative Officer Scott M. Gimple & Matthew Negrete, and directed by executive producer Greg Nicotero. We all loved this episode, though we also admit that it has some faults. SPOILER ALERT!!! SPOILER ALERT!!! The rest of this blog post requires a SPOILER WARNING!!! Welp. We’re a little all over the place and ramble-y in this week’s episode because: what? The end came and went. And we aren’t too sure how we feel about it. Maybe a little like some dynamite that’s been randomly abandoned on a bridge just waiting for Rick Grimes to light up our lives. But with the end of this episode of The Walking Dead came the reveal that Andrew Lincoln will reprise his role as Rick Grimes in three made for tv movies about what comes after for him. So…is it possible there will be new life for Rick Grimes AND Two Dead Chicks? Time will tell. Andy Lincoln and Danai Gurira give standout performances, naturally. We also had guest appearance by the late Scott Wilson, Sonequa Martin-Green, and our own personal Magic Mike, Jon Bernthal. Oh, and did y’all know that was Maggie’s last episode too? We end the episode to see our little asskicker Judith Grimes is all grown up and using her full government name just like her daddy. We’ll see y’all in six years/next week. Talking Through Still Gotta Mean Something On this episode number 78 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and I talk through Season 8, Episode 14 of The Walking Dead, which is titled Still Gotta Mean Something. This episode was written by Eddie Guzelian, and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis. Action and Heart! This was another great episode. This had action, but it also had character moments. You KNOW what it is!!! Don’t you??? Morgan is haunted by those words again, from the ghost of troubled kid Henry… except that Henry wasn’t dead after all. He went out there to kill those Savior escapees. Boy, that Jared death was both gruesome, and satisfying! If any character deserved to die, it was Jared. Hero Carol! Carol, after going her separate ways with Morgan, finds Henry, under a tree that looked suspiciously just like the tree Sophia was supposed to hide underway back in Season 2. It was the same tree, by the way, in real life, though they are far away from the suburban Atlanta that the characters were back then. What if Carol found Sophia back then? She definitely was a different character in Season 2. I thought that was a good tie in, as we see other tie-ins to past episodes and seasons elsewhere in this episode. Carol is a lot of things but a coward is not one of them. Read the darn letter, Rick!!! Rick, on the other hand, uses the words of Alden, and things he’s said back in S2E8 Nebraska, S4E8 Too Far Gone, and S7E3 Monsters, to entice the Savior escapees to return with them to The Hilltop, but he had other plans. It seems that several of them are lured in, help Rick and Morgan escape, and one of them even kills a walker that was about to get Rick. By the way, I forgot to mention it on the podcast, but I noticed one of the escapees actually called them walkers, so I think they were genuinely interested in coming back to The Hilltop. However, Rick was lying the whole time, and never intended on doing anything but killing them. I know Carl had other ideas, and really, this is the first time in a long while where I had to question Rick’s intentions. More on that below. Rick gives the hatchet to the guy that saved him just seconds before. I thought the moment after, when Rick asked Morgan why he saved him back in King County, was a little forced and didn’t seem like something the characters would have discussed at that time, had Morgan been staying on TWD. I understood why it was there, but would have appreciated a more natural scene for it. Jadis and Negan, sitting in a dump… The scenes with Jadis during and after the massacre were very interesting, but I had an issue with that slip. That didn’t look like it would fit under that coat, plus she had pants on! I don’t know why it was important to have her in that slip… though it shows off Pollyanna McIntosh. Judging her by her appearance on Talking Dead really cleans up well. Really well. I find myself actually CARING for her now, and she was a character I couldn’t stand just a few short weeks ago. Damn you, writers!!! What was more interesting was the interaction between Jadis and Negan. Negan, strangely, felt more human in this episode than Rick did. The lines have finally blurred some for me. I don’t appreciate how he’s shaped the world according to HIS plan, but he actually shows genuine concern for Jadis, though he spoils it some by saying she can have it all back. When you talk about people being a resource, you disassociate them from who they really are: People. You treat them as things you can exploit, as tools, and not as individuals. This hits home for me, given the recent issues I have been dealing with outside from this podcast. The Helicopter… We see the helicopter again, without any explanation as far as who’s it is and w

Talking Through Do Not Send Us Astray On this episode number 77 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and I talk through Season 8, Episode 13 of The Walking Dead, which is titled Do Not Send Us Astray. This episode was written by co-executive producers Angela Kang and Matthew Negrete, and directed by Jeffrey F. January. As you may know, Kang will be taking over as showrunner for The Walking Dead next season. Action! This episode gives us some great action, in what I called the best Act 1 ever! I loved it, and this, by far, made me love the episode. Poor Tobin… Unfortunately, things go wrong after that. The Saviors use some shady tactics to taint the weapons according to Negan’s plan, even though he wasn’t in the episode. After the battle, people turn. One of them is long-time Alexandria resident and former boyfriend to Carol, Tobin. I am sad to see Tobin, but I will say that he made a SCARY walker!!! He’s so big that his size overpowered people, and fresh zombies are much more scary, in general than ones that have been around since the start and are falling apart. Stay out of trouble, Carl… I mean, Henry!!! That kid… Why oh why would he open the gate? He was told that Gavin killed his brother Ben, but I guess he couldn’t accept that. Jerkface Jared and most of the other imprisoned Saviors, along with Gregory, escape, and Henry is nowhere to be found. That darn kid!!! You KNOW what it is!!! Don’t you??? I couldn’t write this blog post without addressing the dead Gavin haunting Morgan. I have probably said this 50 times since then!!! So, what is it? I speculated that “you were supposed to” goes back to Morgan not killing his wife Jenny and zombie Jenny killing his son Duane. Could “you know what it is” be Morgan’s cowardice? Do you have any thoughts? Retcon!!! We have to address the success of the Negan tactic because it doesn’t match what we have seen before. Since this is a tactic that comes from the comic, we know that it also succeeded there, so what do we make of this? Do we accept it? Well, yes, but not without some concerns. I suggested on the podcast that this restores the INTENTION to make the zombie guts infectious that comes from the comic, but since we have seen several times where bloody knives have cut our heroes, and they’ve worn the guts both on this show and Fear, to no effect. What happened to Gabriel earlier this season, and this event changes how tainted weapons affect people. To me, this could have EASILY been handled!!! A simple line from one of our people would have made it a lot less problematic, like, “This never happened before. You were cut with that knife and you didn’t die. Why now?” See what I mean??? Wouldn’t that have made all the difference? Instead, they ignore it. I worry that we’re going to keep seeing things like this come up when Angela Kang takes over in Season 9. It’s the little details that mean everything!!! Ratings were up! Do Not Send Us Astray got a 2.95 in the 18-49 demographic, with 6.774 million viewers. This is up from 2.83 and 6.663 million viewers last week.

Talking Through The Key On this episode number 76 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and I talk through Season 8, Episode 12 of The Walking Dead, which is titled The Key. This episode was written by co-executive producers Channing Powell and Corey Reed, and directed by executive producer Greg Nicotero. Car chase! This episode brings us something seldom used on TWD but a staple for action movies, a good old-fashioned car chase! Rick went after Negan and nearly got him. What ensues is part action, part dialog, and part predictable story. Yeah, in episode 12, we knew that neither Rick nor Negan would die or get seriously hurt in this confrontation, but it was entertaining and tense. Simon and Dwight You would normally expect Simon to search for Negan but he doesn’t. Simon tries to feel out Dwight. Dwight doesn’t realize until the end that the prospect of The Saviors led by Simon may be far worse than Negan. Georgie and the Mystery Machine!!! Georgie, Hilda, and Madge. At first, I thought they were from Oceanside. This encounter and the information it brought was definitely not expected, but I suspect this will set us up for Season 9 or 10, and a possible time jump. Ratings are up a bit The Key got a 2.83 in the 18-49 demographic, with 6.663 million viewers. This is up from 2.80 and 6.604 million viewers last week. Talking Through Dead or Alive Or On this episode of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and I talk through Season 8, Episode 11 of The Walking Dead, which is titled Dead or Alive Or. Another doctor bites the dust! We see the journey of Father Gabriel and The Hilltop’s Dr. Carson try to get back to The Hilltop, and though it seemed like God might be guiding them, they not only end up not succeeding, but Carson is killed in a failed attempt to escape. Dr. Carson is the latest in a long line of doctors/medical professionals who have died on The Walking Dead. Jenner, Dr. S (from the prison – I forgot about him during the recording), Hershel, Bob, “Porch Dick”, Denise, Dr. Carson’s brother, and now, Dr. Carson himself. We still have a doctor from The Kingdom we haven’t met, and Siddiq, a former resident, and that means he IS a doctor, and you will hear a rant about that during the episode about several podcasts that got this point wrong this week, so I’m guessing at least one of them won’t survive the season. I felt bad for Gabriel, ending up with Eugene (who is a bit of a jerk this episode). Will he die? Will he get back his eyesight? He just continues to screw things up, though I would have to put this one on Carson, for doing such a dumb thing. As a doctor, he is a most valuable person to have around, yet like Denise, he does such a dumb thing, a lot dumber than Denise did. Tara and Dwight Exactly how much time has passed since the beginning of Season 6? Maggie’s still not showing yet. How long has it been since Dwight killed Denise? I know Tara has every right to be mad at Dwight and not want to work with him, but her behavior is a bit out of character. It also makes her a hypocrite, when you consider that she stood beside The Governor when he killed Hershel. Dwight shows he is working with our group, but then has to go back to Negan. Finally, a tear… I intentionally picked the Enid picture because this was the moment that finally got me to shed a tear for Carl. That was a heartbreaking moment to watch, seeing joy turn into sorrow. Audio Problems improved… I was able to improve on the reverb in this episode, but it’s still not quite up to the sound quality at the old place. I’ll keep working on it.
