Let us look again at the human stories of this war. Let us recall the hundreds of people in Yahidne forced by Russian soldiers to live in a village school basement for almost a month. Let us hear the story of the crowd of people at Kramatorsk railway station struck by a Russian missile while they were waiting for an evacuation train. Let us remember stories of people living in residential buildings on which Russians warplanes dropped bombs in Chernihiv. Let us remember that the war is always about human suffering, and that this war in particular is about unthinkable Russian cruelty. Most of all, let us work hard to ensure that justice prevails. The Explaining Ukraine podcast speaks to Nataliya Gumenyuk, one of Ukraine's best-known reporters and founder of the Reckoning Project. It recently published a book of reports from this war titled The Most Horrible Days of My Life (Найстрашніші дні мого життя), telling some of the human stories of this war in detail. In this captivating episode of the Beehive Podcast, Nataliya engages in great conversation with the most successful female alpine skier in British history - Chemmy Alcott. Together, they delve into Chemmy's extraordinary journey and uncover the key elements of her triumphs. Chemmy passionately emphasises the significance of unwavering dedication and the importance of giving 100% effort, even when confronted with setbacks and facing failures. Despite enduring life-altering accidents resulting in over 40 broken bones, Chemmy's commitment to her sport remained unwavering and she shares how after having to retire, she achieved her dream of presenting Ski Sunday on BBC Sport. Nataliya and Chemmy also talk about society's tendency to celebrate winners, shedding light on the often-overlooked value of relentless effort and unwavering determination. This episode promises insights that resonate far beyond the world of sports. KEY TAKEAWAYS Chasing excellence, not perfection, is the key to personal growth and success. Overcoming setbacks and failures is essential for discovering one's true potential. Effort and resilience should be celebrated over winning, especially in the context of young girls in sport. Positive self-talk and a growth mindset are crucial for overcoming challenges and achieving goals. The bond between athletes and nature is strong, but it is important to protect and preserve the environment for future generations. BEST MOMENTS "I'm proud of every single one of [my injuries] because they only came because I was pushing my limit." "Chasing excellence is a really good way to live because it's just continuous. Whatever happens, you want to be more excellent the next day." "I think positivity is when you say 'yes' to whatever challenge you are facing. If you look at it positively, your brain actually performs 30% more productively." "I define myself by being a ski racer because I've got this kind of crazy name, Chemmy. That was who I was for 20 years of my life." "I'm worried about the legacy of the sport if we don't protect our mountains. Our glaciers are melting, our mountains are dying, and we need to try and make a change." KEY TAKEAWAYS Life is always giving us signs and signals to show us when something is not working or when we are on the right path. Connecting to our inner child and releasing suppressed emotions and blockages is essential for personal growth and finding true happiness. Balancing high-pressure jobs with spiritual practices, such as meditation or mindfulness, is crucial for maintaining a state of balance and well-being. Combining spirituality and religion is possible as long as it aligns with your own beliefs and allows for a direct connection to your higher self and divine energy. Creating a space of beauty and harmony, whether through light colours, nature, crystals, or candles, can enhance our spiritual practices and bring a sense of peace and joy. BEST MOMENTS "Life is always talking to you, it's always bringing you signs that something is not working or something. Or when something is working, when you are on your soul path, you feel so much abundance and so much flow and doors opening." "Pressure comes from the fact that you don't believe in yourself and you don't believe in life as a giver." "If you're doing any practice that is telling you you have an obligation to do something that goes against your heart and you feel it, you feel obliged, you feel it's heavy, you feel it doesn't work for you, you have to stop because that means that you are under the influence of something that is limited, that is human, and that has nothing to do with God." "Success is not about what you get. It's exactly about knowing who you are and expressing who you are." "Beauty is harmony. I think that I have a different way to see beauty. But if I'm going in a hotel, for example, I need some energy reminders, you know, like crystals. I bring a little crystal. I bring a little goddess that I travel, that is always travelling with me." We all have different reasons for wanting to lose weight: Feeling lighter Being healthier Fitting into your “skinny” clothes Or sometimes, just feeling more confident… And sometimes, there are hidden reasons for wanting to lose weight that we don't even realize we have. For Nataliya, 46, weight loss has been a lifelong journey. Nataliya wants to be more confident in her body, and to feel lighter. She jokes that her goal is to feel “like a squirrel” and be able to jump from branch to branch. But what she doesn't quite realize is that her desire to feel lighter is driven by a part of her that's thinking some “heavy thoughts.” And as Marc David explains, those heavy thoughts are all about her resistance to something that so many of us would like to avoid: ===> Aging. Even though she is youthful, has a young child, a great marriage, and is in good health, Nataliya is starting to feel older – and her unwanted weight is just one more reminder of the aging process. She finds herself often longing for the body she had as a young girl. As Marc points out, making peace with aging is a spiritual practice. And to find peace with our age, we ultimately need to connect with that part of us that's wiser and more mature. Because it's perfectly understandable to have a hard time saying goodbye to our youth – but it's also vital that we develop a healthy relationship with aging. Along the way to making the powerful connection between weight and aging, Marc also helps Nataliya see that if she truly wants to lose weight, she needs to focus on a whole new approach, including: ✅ Letting go of needing the approval of others to feel that her body is “acceptable” ✅ Noticing when the “teenager voice” within her is taking over the weight loss conversation ✅ Finding peace with aging, and making it a spiritual practice ✅ Learning that body confidence doesn't come from future weight loss … it happens when we do things, right NOW, that help us feel better in our body ✅ And much more… Tune into this wonderful episode on aging, weight, and making peace with ourselves and our lives. --------------- Learn more about us at The Institute for the Psychology of Eating: https://psychologyofeating.com/ Ready to call a ceasefire in your battle with eating, and find peace and freedom with food? BEST MOMENTS "I want people to realize that not everyone's going to climb Everest, but we all have an Everest to climb." "It's never about the finish line. It's never about the summit. It's never about the new car. It's never about the race. It's never about the new house. It's never about that physical stuff. It's never about the goal, because you can always make more money. You can always buy another car. You can always climb another mountain. You can always run another race. If you're looking for those things to make you happy, you're going to be unhappy your entire life." "It always seems impossible until it's done." "If you want something different, do something different." Russia's war is fought on many fronts, but one of the key ones is information. Nataliya and Andrey are Dynasty-level students in our Child Care Genius University Coaching Program. After successfully running their first child care business, they decided to open a second facility. Along the way, they realized they could use some guidance while troubleshooting different aspects in their new center. Nataliya and Andrey made the investment in their business by joining the Child Care Genius University Coaching Program. They each delve into what they find especially beneficial about the Dynasty level one-on-one coaching and how it's helped them with their expanding business. Nataliya and Andrey both offer humble and insightful testimonials. We were able to spend quality time at their child care centers and really get to know them both, as well as the inner workings of their businesses. Nataliya and Andrey affirmed that meeting with a mentor can help you see things in a different light or perhaps affirm something you suspected was a trouble area in your business. A mentor can help point out any blind spots that you may not be able to see while you're focused on the day-to-day operations of your facility. Andrey believes a “mentorship is probably one of the best things you can possibly ask for." Nataliya and Andrey have goals of opening multiple locations in the future and we can't wait to help them reach that goal. Andrey credits the Child Care Genius one-on-one coaching that gave them the confidence to pursue their dreams of expanding their child care business further in the coming years. “Talking with you guys made us comfortable with having more…” “We have to have some kind of system, at least a plan to do this and how's it done." We specialize in child care business expansion and we will be with them every step of the way to offer any guidance they may need. This is a great podcast for those of you that are considering expanding to a second location! Recently, Russia has been ramping up its attack on Ukrainian civilians and civilian infrastructures using airstrikes to target power plants, water works, and natural gas facilities. With a cold, Ukrainian winter looming, these are all attempts to make ordinary Ukrainians suffer and break their resolve. This week, the World Health Organization estimated that 10 million Ukrainians—about one fourth of the country—is without electricity. And they warn that the winter will be life threatening for many Ukranians. We speak with Nataliya Gumenyuk, Ukrainian journalist and founder of the Public Interest Journalism Lab, about ordinary Ukrainian's are experiencing and bracing for, now and in the coming months. Then, we revisit a conversation with Edward Reese, a non-binary queer Ukrainian activist and project manager for Kyiv Pride, who became a Ukrainian refugee in April, and was seeking gender affirming surgery.
