At long last the return of RICK GRIMES and MICHONNE!! This is the story every Walking Dead fan has been waiting to see come to its conclusion. Last we saw Rick he was blowing up a bridge and being airlifted by the lady with the worst haircuts on TV - Jadis. Then we had to wait. And wait and then wait some more. We saw The Walking Dead proper end. Fear the Walking Dead end. Tales of the Walking and a Daryl Dixon show. There may have been some we missed. All the while we wanted to see Rick and Michonne together again and hopefully reunited with Judith and RJ. Well all was answered in this 6 episode series. Where's Rick been? What's he been doing? How could Michonne possibly find him in a post-apocalyptic world? All this and more with our special guest and fellow TWD fan Untamable Amy! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jafnpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jafnpodcast/support
TGIF! Our coverage of The Ones Who Live concludes this week with our chat about the finale. We LOVED it! We were thrilled to see the Grimes family get a happy ending. We talk about Jadis and her disturbingly detailed dossier, unpack our thoughts about the Echelon briefing, and of course we swoon over the family reunion. This series was such a fun watch and truly felt like a love letter from Danai Gurira and Andrew Lincoln to their fans. It's been a week since The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live's season(/series?) finale dropped: we took our time to isolate the full spectrum of our impressions on the conclusion to Rick & Michonne's fraught journey. Even if you had issues with Richonne's #TWDfamily reunion with RJ & Judith Grimes, the people have spoken in the form of chart-topping ratings.
Happy Friday! Our coverage of The Ones Who Live continues this week with our discussion of Episode 5, "Become." We enjoyed the episode and were SHOCKED, but delighted by the return of Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) to the TWD universe. We share all of our favorite moments from Richonne's second honeymoon episode - including the big proposal at the end. Candi very graciously fills in a few background gaps for me on the past relationship between Gabriel and Ann/Jadis. And of course we talk about Jadis's final character run and whether or not we understood all of her choices. We close with our wishlist for the finale. In sum, we want cinnamon roll sweetness and will not be here for any bittersweet endings. This is a love story and we want a happy ending for this beloved couple. And a reunion!Support the showFollow the pod on IG, Twitter, and Tumblr.Send longer feedback to morewinepod@gmail.com.Find our full catalog of past episodes at morewinepod.buzzsprout.com.
Happy Wine Wednesday! Candi is back to discuss episode 4 of "The Ones Who Live" written by the multi-talented Danai Gurira. We have a scene heavy discussion this week as we discuss the multiple reckonings for Richonne - Michonne's disappointment in her reunion with Rick and the reckoning for the couple as a whole. Of course we unpack Michonne's long awaited revelation to Rick about their son, RJ. And we talk about how the couple ultimately gets on the same page by being vulnerable and sharing how their trauma has impacted them. This was a spectacular episode and Danai exercised the utmost love and care as we navigated this important turning point for Richonne. This episode had us all in our feelings, y'all. Especially as Rick opened up about how his time with CRM made him lose Carl all over again. Those flashbacks! We close with a little bit of speculation about what's to come. I run a few of my tin foil theories about the presence of "A"s by Candi and whether they have a larger meaning for the spinoffs and main series as a whole. We had a few audio issues in this episode, so apologies for that! Riverside was a bit glitchy this week.As always, thank you SO much for listening! Happy Wine Wednesday! Candi is back this week to discuss episode 3 of "The Ones Who Live" entitled "Bye." The writers told us to let go of a precise timeline and we discuss whether we're on the same page with that decision. We're three episodes in and hadn't yet talked about the opening sequence and theme song, so we share our reflections on that. I ask Candi how the show opening compares to the other spinoffs. We had a LOT of thoughts about Rick's big escape plan and loved every bit of Michonne's reaction to it. We've seen two women visit Rick in his apartment so far and neither one of them is Michonne. We talk about the two women - Jadis and Thorne - who have visited Rick in his new home and whether or not we trust them. Spoiler alert: we don't.Thanks so much for listening! We will be back next week to discuss episode 4. Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, we use adult language, and we have a great time.Follow Candi on Twitter here. Happy Wine Wednesday! Candi is back this week to discuss episode 2 of "The Ones Who Live" entitled "Gone." We talk about Michonne's journey to find Rick and appreciate that despite encounters with human dangers like Negan and the Whisperers in the main series, we find her still open to new people. We also discuss her decision to withhold information about RJ from Rick.Of course, we had to celebrate the amazing performance by Matthew Jeffers as Nat. We praise Jeffers' performance and talk about his amazing chemistry with Dana Guirira, which is likely due to the two having prior acting history together. Speaking of chemistry, we loved all of the kissing and reconnecting between Richonne in this episode. And we unpack our frustration with the character who threatened our favorite couple this week - Jadis, the wild card. Thanks so much for listening! We will be back next week to discuss episode 3. The Walking Dead has a love story that's uniquely their own. Feedback: blackgirlcouch@gmail.comTwitter: christinaj16831Tumblr: slowlyandrogynousmiracle
OK. Where do we begin with this long-awaited episode of The Walking Dead? Our friend Tai Gooden helps us break this down. What started as excitement to see our main woman, Michonne (Danai Gurira), step into the spotlight turned to horror over what we were watching. The kids? Eff them kids. Yes, they deserved to die and we hope they burn in hell! No, we were more than a little disgusted to see Michonne brutalized again. Tussling with the Governor's men? Check. Savage fight with the actual Governor? Check. Beat up by a MMA fighter disguised as a trash lady? Check. Knocked out by a demon child while pregnant? Check. Branded while pregnant? Check. Beaten with a wooden board while pregnant? Check. Had to kill a bunch of Children of the Corn to rescue her daughter who was abducted by a close friend from before the world ended? Check. Had her heavily pregnant belly slashed by a 6-year-old? Check. While he was at it, why didn't he just cut RJ out for good measure? And we're still confused about the actual point of this. Was this supposed to explain why Maggie and Tara have an attitude with Michonne? Or why Michonne don't want no new friends? We get it. Sometimes, in the zombie apocalypse, you meet people and they try to eat you. No wait-- you meet people and they try to take half of your stuff and make you slaves. No, that's not it. Here we go: you meet people and they kill you and carve a "W" in your head. See where we're going? This ain't new. Not sure why we needed to see Michonne kill some kids? By the way, thanks for all the help, Daryl. And Judith, go to your room! On the plus side, Danai was phenomenal. As if there was any doubt. We saw RJ and he's the perfect kid. And Jocelyn, if nothing else, gave us the perfect tagline for these Richonne movies: Go Find Your Man. Be sure to check out Tai's work at Hypable, SyFyWire and Bustle! We knew it was coming. But nothing could have truly prepared us for Rick Grimes’ penultimate episode, and the penultimate episode of our lives, really. The Walking Dead wants to make sure we know that glimmer of hope we felt that Daryl might have grown as a character was squashed by the fact that yet once again, because of Daryl’s bad decisions, Rick’s life is in peril. Sure, Daryl. Go on with your useless ass. Rick can take care of these herds ALL BY HIMSELF on this random ass white horse that just showed up. Didn’t you just say you would die for Rick? Yet when he needs your help, you are peacing out. Same stuff, different day, Dirt Squirrel. And he invoked the name of GLENN who is dead because of HIM? We hope he dies choking on an Alpo sandwich. We did get a lot of wonderful Michonne scenes, including some great acting vibes between Danai Gurira and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan. Though we were real salty that Michonne had this conversation about Andre with Negan, but yet we couldn’t really get this moment with Rick? Sure, Jan. Meanwhile, the love of her life is trapped in a hole with a rage filled hillbilly who has sabotaged him. We’re fine. Really. Jadis Anne spared Gabe’s life and left him high and dry. But given the state of our leading man, we cannot be bothered to care. Special thanks to Richonne writer extraordinaire Ashley Jordan (@AshActually) aka cakebythepound for joining us! When The Walking Dead gives us the goods, they give us the damn goods! Just moments into the episode we’re talking about building the future which is code for making a Richonne baby. With the flick of a pencil, our ovaries exploded. And honestly, we think a lot of Grimes babies are gonna be born about 9 months from now… 'cause didn’t we all just get pregnant from that? Naturally the actual process of building said future was cut from the episode, but we were treated to a Grimes Family Fun Day montage complete with Rick crawling across the floor with a very excited Judith and basically, we could watch a whole episode of just this forever. Did anything else even happen on this episode? Oh right, right, right, right… Daryl is looking to pair up with Maggie which means shenanigans are afoot. Why is it that when anyone is just dying to make a bad decision, they somehow end up with Daryl? Accident? We think not. The Trash Queen is up to her old tricks because why wouldn’t she be? She asks Gabe to join her and leave this place together forever, but this preacher man ain’t here for it. He maintains his loyalty to Rick which earns him a whack to the head. There’s so much betrayal happening right now and we’re awfully afraid one of these dummies is about to get our leading man killed. Speaking of getting killed, Justin and Arat did just that and as it turns out, the ladies of Oceanside were the ones behind it. On one hand, they kind of had it coming. On the other, this is the result of a much larger problem. We need that charter right away so we can get these folks on the same page and prevent anymore revenge killings. But also, we need that baby. Y’all better get to building, 'cause as AMC keeps rudely reminding us…Rick only has two episodes left. RIP our hopes and dreams. We’re fine. Shoutout to Cher and Preeti AKA the very generous cohosts of the SyFy Fangrrls Strong Female Characters podcast, because they invited us to be part of a live show discussing all things thirst and fandom. We have a short clip from the live show in today's episode but you can listen to the whole hilarious thing on their feed (@syfyfangrrlspod). Also: remember how Bim loves Rick and Michonne on The Walking Dead? Well, we have a brief but wondrous conversation with Richonne fanfic writer extraordinaire, Cake By The Pound, and Kia of the excellent podcast Two Dead Chicks, to discuss the secret of Rick's, um, walk. ::eyes emoji:: Finally, some truly blessed listener correspondence that made us tear up and blow kisses. Stay hydrated, lovely ones! Do you need help figuring out your next crush? Drop us a line! Leave us a message at (765) 8-THIRST (765-884-4778) with your name and what kind of crush advice you're looking for, and maybe we'll answer your question in an upcoming Thirst Sommelier. Happy mid-The Walking Dead hiatus! It’s been three months since we saw the last episode of season 8 and it will be another three months until season 9 starts. San Diego Comic Con is next week, and along with that comes a trailer and premiere date for season 9. Also, it’s 7/12. Also, it’s our two year anniversary! So what better way to celebrate than to talk about the love that keeps us going: the love between Rick Grimes and Michonne. Let’s say it all together now: Richonne! We sat down to speak with Erin Qualey (Hidden Remote), Ashley Jordan (Richonne fanfiction writer) and Bim Adewunmi (BuzzFeed senior culture writer, co-host of the Thirst Aid Kit podcast) about all manner of things, including how Richonne's relationship helped both parties move from a place of hurt to a place of healing, the real world effects that this fictional interracial couple has on representation of black women in the medium and the intimacy and desire that these two characters (by way of two amazing actors) bring to the screen. But these conversations will take you everywhere; we may start with intimacy, but we may end up shading Michonne’s wig or talking about flicking Kirkman on his forehead (we say “we,” but we really mean Bim, though we completely co-sign). We loved having these kick-ass women on for these intelligent, hilarious and meaningful conversations. We also reveal the winning moment of our our #ChampionsOfRichonne bracket and, along with that, the person who won our crazy huge Champions of Richonne prize pack. Did you guess right? We've been had! We've been took! We've been hoodwinked! Bamboozled! Led Astray! Run amok! This is what he does. Yeah, we're talking about you, Nicotero. What did we ever do to you but want our Richonne content?! Despite the deception, this episode of The Walking Dead was, frankly, fun fun fun. We knew Negan was crazy about his bat, but we didn't know he was literally insane. Not really sure how the Saviors follow this dude who starts snarling "Don't you touch her" anytime someone even glances at his weapon of choice, but that's none of our business. Are we now supposed to think Negan maybe isn't all that bad because he genuinely thinks he's saving people? WRONG. Try again. Murderer Rick, you know what we like and you came to give it to us. Saving for the murdering part, of course, but we like the swag we get when you try. Just, maybe...try harder. Simon continues to shine as the crack in the veneer of the Savior organization and we can't wait to see how that conflict comes to a head. Pro tip: just listen to Michonne. C'mon people. Just listen to Michonne. It might end up getting you a key to your future. Also, Enid, go sit in the corner. Wanna enter our Extreme Fan Contest?! As a Christmas present to you, our devoted listeners, this week, Julie and Dianna have delved into the archives to bring you this great outing – our recap of The Walking Dead’s Season 6, episodes 9 and 10. We prepared for this for months and the 3 days of Walker Stalker Atlanta 2017 literally flew by. We talk about our experiences, including meeting the winner of our scavenger hunt for #WSCAtlanta tickets, Danai Gurira's mishap with Kia's name and, of course, the unicorn photo op with Andy and Danai. Season 8 of The Walking Dead is basically here and unlike season 7, we're actually not dreading it (and it's not just because we heard there was some Richonne goodness to be had in the premiere). In this preview 'cast, we talk to some supporting players from the different communities to get their take on what we're in store for in season 8. It was an uneven season of The Walking Dead and a wild ride for our first full season of real-time recaps. Thanks for sticking with us! We're joined by Erin Qualey (@miffedcupcake), editor at Hidden Remote, to discuss our overall feelings of this season. Richonne, of course, is an easy highlight. Beyond that, however, we struggled a bit to pull out additional golden threads for the season as a whole. No worries, though. We still love the show. The back half of season seven of The Walking Dead went by extremely fast; we're already at the penultimate episode! Rick and crew are in git 'er done mode as they arrive in Oceanside to jack all of their guns and ask them to become allies, but only giving them about 45 seconds to decide. We wonder why Michonne, the horrible shot, is sitting in the sniper position when she really should be head negotiator! Meanwhile, at the Sanctuary, Sasha has two meaningful conversations with both Negan and Eugene. We discuss why the one with Negan was the most interesting we've seen him and why the one with Eugene wasn't a surprise at all (to Kia, anyway). We also talk Richonne fan fiction at the top. Hello, 7x12. How are you? We've been waiting for you for 6 months! This episode of The Walking Dead focuses heavily on the power couple of the zombie apocalypse -- none other than Rick and Michonne. They scavenge, they sex (though we thought we'd see more of that...), they slay. But these honeymooners get more than they bargained for when a near death experience forces them to confront why they're living and what a possible life without each other means. Michonne's heart broke this episode and so did ours! We will never have a life without Richonne; we reject it! Also, if for whatever reason, you still can't see that Rick's life has been irrevocably changed by his relationship with Michonne, and his interactions are all the richer for it...welp...sorry (we ain't sorry). They're the #ChampionsOfSex In other news, Rosita is making plans out of anger and has somehow gotten Sasha involved in her whirlwind of disaster, so that should be interesting. Bonus points to the person who can find a section in the feedback that we were supposed to edit out because...we can't find it. Hey! This episode is a whole 8 hours early. Give us a break! FEAR ME: The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead & Preacher Podcast
Another focused episode in this weeks The Walking Dead. The whole story line is based in or pertaining to the Sanctuary and the development of Dwight. We also check in on Eugene for the first time since he was stolen away to be the Saviors personal bullet maker. In the past this sort of focus has been a bit tough on us, but it really seemed to work here. We had a great time discussing this and from the amount of input we had from listeners, we were not the only ones. Thanks for all the feedback. Next week we'll be catching up with Richonne in what seems to be an exciting episode. We'll also be reviewing the web series Passage which is a side story from Fear the Walking Dead, so please tune in.
We were certainly entertained by this episode of The Walking Dead (and by Rick bossing up), but these Junkyard People can GO. We don't trust them and we're surprised how much of a win our guys think this is. Don't turn your back on them is all we're saying. In other news, Richonne celebrates their anniversary (in our minds) with a Thunderdome-esque walker fight and cat gifts; Carol and Daryl have their long awaited reunion, but Carol is still left in the dark about the deaths of Glenn and Abraham; and the lengths Richard will go to trying to get Ezekiel to see the light leaves a bad taste in our mouths. After the recap, stick around for our interview with Elizabeth Ludlow (@ElizabethLudlow), who plays right-hand Savior woman Arat. She talks about getting her start, what being on "The Walking Dead" means to her and drops tidbits about new characters we should keep our eye on. If you're in the Rhode Island area this weekend (2/25-2/26/17), make sure to attend TerrorCon to see Elizabeth in person! Got feedback for us? We wanna hear it! The Walking Dead is back, baby! Rick steps back into his leadership role in a big way in this mid-season premiere and we couldn't help but notice a certain someone (uh, MICHONNE) was lockstep with him the entire way. This is a true co-leadership team and we're not ready OR worthy. We discuss Kang Ezekiel's reluctance to join the resistance (and the difference, if there is any, between his and Gregory's rationale), Daryl suddenly finding his voice, the fact that we absolutely need Morgan to get his life together and the knowledge that we were unwittingly party to some Richonne foreplay in the form of the most badass walker kill there will ever be. There was too much panting between them for something to have not gone down later! And, as always, listener feedback! Got feedback for us? We wanna hear it! Our favorite episode of The Walking Dead's seventh season, so far. A little Richonne to kick off the episode, but it gets even better from there. Carl and Enid rolling down the street! S-K-A-T-I-N-G! Sure, we all loved Richonne, but step aside, there's a new hot apocalyptic romance in Alexandria: Carnid. Or Earl? Whatever, it was cute, and fun, and gives Carl a new angle to work besides the increasingly silly hair and hat routine. What else? Oh, Maggie is a boss, of course, tractors are employed in unusual circumstances, Gregory is literally The Worst, Michonne struggles to adapt to a post-Negan world, and the biggest surprise of them all; The Walking Dead writer's staff deftly juggling no less than three separate plots in a single episode! All of this and more are discussed, including emails from your fellow fans.

Talking Through The Well The Well was definitely a different kind of episode than the season 7 premiere, and at least one of us really, really liked it. I won't tell you who, you'll just have to listen to see. Okay, twist my arm, it was me. This episode caught us up on what is happening with Morgan and our beloved Carol, as well as introduced us to a new community of people. During this episode, we see an entirely new way of life in the zombie apocalypse, one that seems a little hard for Carol to swallow. She thinks that the Kingdom is a joke and that King Ezekiel is, too. That is until he lets her in on his little secret. By the end of the episode, I think Carol and I are in agreement. Ezekiel and Shiva aren't so bad after all. I don’t know what’s going on in the most wonderful way! It seems in this episode that both Morgan and Carol start out kind of adrift, but I think by the end of it, they both find their footing. I can't wait for the Kingdom and Alexandria to finally team up to defeat the so-called Saviors, who don't save anybody but themselves and their megalomaniacal leader. Maybe they will even get the Hilltop in on it, too, but they seem rather defeated already. In any case, I don't want a super long conflict with the Saviors like there is in the comics. A girl can dream… A few things Now for a few things I didn't say in the episode. I noticed, in the beginning, the second time I watched the episode that you can hear someone in the background ask Morgan what he's doing, and you can see him in the background as he says he's marking the way back. Then a few minutes later we see him marking a mailbox and putting the flag up. At the end of the episode, we see him lead Carol back to that same house he marked earlier, and he puts the flag back down. I really like that Carol and Morgan both seem to fit in with The Kingdom, and I also like that Ezekiel is crushing on Carol in a big way. I think they would be cute together, and maybe be another power couple to give Richonne a run for their money! Get in your feedback! We didn't know about this King Ezekiel / Shiva business at first, but it SO works, and we're excited that The Walking Dead took the time to root Ezekiel in reality so quickly. We talk about the Kingdom's set up, Ezekiel-isms and whether or not Ezekiel is putting the moves on Carol. If so, just don't do it with fruit; that's Richonne's thing! Melissa was very excited by the allegorical potential for this episode of The Walking Dead. Kia was very excited to bask in the blessings of Richonne and the fullness thereof. Both of them had their hopes and dreams dashed around 15 minutes in. Amid the very immediate threat of an attack on Alexandria, everyone decides to LEAVE Alexandria on the flimsiest of conceits. Riiiiiiicooolaaaaaaa!!!! It seems like we have a slight echo on this episode. Apologies! It's a glorious time for Richonne shippers in the fandom of The Walking Dead. The first episode after their magical night has Kia in as much of an afterglow as the characters themselves. However, that's all brought to a screeching halt because of our new friend, shady Jesus. He escapes the confinement of Alexandria's unfinished basement/jail cell, takes inventory of its resources, tells Rick and crew that he's from a place that can trade with them, takes them to said place where the leader shuts them down and then they somehow end up agreeing to be mercenaries for this new group. Richonne. Richonne is what brings us together today. Richonne, that blessed arrangement, that dream within a dream… And love, true love, will follow them forever… So treasure their love. The time has come for The Walking Dead to finally make good on the carrot they've been dangling in front of us since season 3 in the form of a romantic relationship between Rick and Michonne. And boy, did they make good. We loved seeing these verbal and physical validations of everything we already knew Michonne was to her Grimes family: mother, friend, confidant, protector and now lover. Oh, yeah, other things happened in this episode? Daryl was funny (on purpose), Rick was super lighthearted and we met a shifty kung-fu thief with a wandering eye and too many layers named Jesus. Should we dislike him? Yes. Is he the reason we got to see an eyeful of Michonne and Rick butt? Yes. Do we still dislike him? Yes, because without that interruption, we may have gotten a scene with morning sex! C'mon Jesus!
