What if Sabbath wasn't a rule to follow—but a gift to receive? We will explore the sacred rhythm of Sabbath through Genesis, Exodus, and Luke, remembering that sabbath isn't just about stopping—it's about restoration. Whether Sabbath feels familiar or foreign, this sermon invites you to hold the gift in your hands and discover what restoration might look like for you. (Genesis 2:1–3, Exodus 20:8–11, Luke 13:10-13)
What does it mean to stand firm in a divided, anxious world? In this Sacred Rhythm message, we will read 2 Timothy 3:16–17 and how Scripture, breathed by God, is not meant to arm us for arguments—but to anchor us in God's presence. From a Roman prison, Paul reminds Timothy—and us—that Scripture is where we return not to win, but to be shaped. When the world shakes, we go back to the Word not to master it, but to meet the God who breathes. (2 Timothy 3:16)
ユーミンへのメールはこちらまでuso@yuming.co.jpSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
What does it look like to return to God—not just in crisis, but day after day? In this message from the Sacred Rhythm summer series, we will explore Daniel 6:1–10, where we see Daniel choosing prayer not as protest, but as restoration. From a quiet room in exile, Daniel knelt toward Jerusalem three times a day—not to get something from God, but to remember who God is and who he was in God. In a world where faith is often reduced to private preference, Daniel reminds us of the power of daily rhythms that re-anchor us in God's presence.

Misery beneath the Miracle in East Asia (Cornell University Press, 2024) challenges prevailing views of the East Asian economic miracle. Existing scholarship has overlooked the severity, persistence, and harmful consequences of the social-welfare crises affecting the region. Dr. Arvid J. Lukauskas and Dr. Yumiko Shimabukuro fill this gap and put a major asterisk on East Asia's economic record. Combining big-picture analysis, abundant data, a dynamic interdisciplinary framework, and powerful human stories, they shed light on the social ills that governments have failed to address adequately, including low wages, child abuse, elderly poverty, and substandard housing. One of the major forces behind the multidimensional welfare crises is the region's productivist welfare strategy, which prioritizes economic growth while abandoning a robust social safety net, leaving the most vulnerable segments of society largely unprotected. Misery beneath the Miracle in East Asia brings the region into debates over the dangers of seeking growth at all costs that are currently embroiling the United States and other advanced industrialized countries. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose new book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. This episode is a followup from last week, as Tiffany guides us into the art of public speaking while explaining why evaluations are crucial in developing the impressive skills of speechmaking. For the big portion of this topic, we hear the feedback on Tiffany's speech (which you can find in the previous episode) from the other contestants from the Toastmasters where Tiffany receives reviews from more than ten people! Tiffany offers us helpful tips to keep in mind when receiving evaluations. For example, how not be overly critical, to not take feedbacks personally, and how constructive criticism can help us grow and improve as communicators. From Tiffany's toastmaster speech, the reviews are received with much praise and congratulatory remarks. The feedsbacks included comments such as how they enjoyed the choice in topic, speech structure and self disclosure, how eye opening, resilient, breathtaking, sincere and authentic the powerful personal story as a transwoman in the lens of diversity. Moreover, they applaud Tiffany's splendid performance, gestures and her use of vivid and colorful language and so on. Other critics included wanting more emotional connection from the speech, suggested to have a strong core message in the beginning to connect to the end, adding more humor to the speech, simplifying and speaking more slowly, and much more. Overall, the speech was a huge success and everyone who attended were looking forward to seeing more of Tiffany's public speech! Thank you Yumiko for the delightful review! And as always, we thank you for your support and for joining us time and time again! Remember, you are valued and deserve happiness.
