But Scripture reminds us that in these moments, we are not called to retreat, but to lean deeper into the presence of God. In His Spirit, we find the rest our souls are desperate for and the renewal we need to rise and keep fighting.05/08/2025 - Thursday NightScriptures:Genesis 27:46Galatians 6:9-10II Thessalonians 3:13Genesis 26:35Proverbs 4:23Ecclesiastes 12:12II Corinthians 11:23-30Isaiah 40:28-31

Rogers Hornsby won seven batting titles, hit .358 in his 23-year Major League career and remains the all-time batting average leader both among right handed hitters and in the National League. Hornsby's career and personal life were marked by conflict, antagonism, lawsuits, acrimony and bitterness. But the man could hit. Wheatley discusses his new book, From St. Louis to Cooperstown: Baseball Legends, Born and Made in the Gateway City, sharing fascinating stories and little-known facts about Hall of Fame inductees with ties to St. Louis. The book profiles not only the well-known Hall of Famers but also the many overlooked players from the Cardinals, Browns, and Negro Leagues. Who knew that the journey from the baseball diamond to Cooperstown is filled with such rich narratives? We discuss the importance of remembering those who might not have made the headlines but played pivotal roles in shaping the game in St. Louis. With a sprinkle of humor, Ed recounts the quirks of baseball history, including the trials and tribulations and heartfelt stories of players who faced adversity but still left their mark on the field. Bruce Hornsby: Singer-songwriter and pianist on his career, musical evolution

It's fair to say Bruce Hornsby is a bit of a legend in the music game. Even a casual fan will know ‘The Way It Is', the intro often considered the greatest piano intro of all time, and finding even more fame thanks to Tupac using it in ‘Changes'. He began his career in the 80's, and since then, some of the biggest and best have cited his influence, including the likes of Willie Nelson and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Hornsby is showing no signs of slowing – releasing four albums so far in this decade alone. Although he's found great success in his career, Hornsby told Mike Hosking he was a pretty bad “popstar”. “I was gonna do what I was gonna do whether it was successful or not,” he said. “Always been a musician first, and I was a bit of a creatively restless soul.” His music has become more experimental over the years, much to the chagrin, he says, of his long time fans. “I'm just interested in evolving and pushing,” Hornsby told Hosking. “So when, when I lose, hopefully when I lose a certain old time fan, that he just hates it, hopefully I garner some newer and most likely younger fans.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

An outstanding performance awaits on this week's Deadpod as we usher in the month of April with a memorable set from April Fools' Day, 1991 at Greensboro, North Carolina. The band roars into a fantastic version of 'Jack Straw' and I for one, love the presence of Hornsby here and throughout the set. They dovetail into a nice version of 'Peggy-O' and Jerry is in fine form here. Bobby takes over for a rockin' version of 'It's All Over Now'; again Hornsby's contributions on the keyboard adds great effect. Jerry follows with a soulful 'Candyman' and Phil brings out 'Just LIke Tom Thumb's Blues' for the first time since Brent passed. They mesh wonderfully to bring us a fine version of 'Picasso Moon', then close the set with a magnificent 'Bird Song'   Grateful Dead 1991-04-01 Greensboro Coliseum - Greensboro, NC Set 1: Jack Straw > Peggy-O It's All Over Now Candyman Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues Picasso Moon Bird Song  You can listen to this week's Deadpod here:  http://traffic.libsyn.com/deadshow/deadpod040425.mp3   my thanks for your generous support of the Deadpod!

In this episode of the Money Meets Medicine podcast, host Dr. Jimmy Turner is joined by student loan expert Travis Hornsby to discuss the intricate and evolving landscape of student loans. The episode is timely, releasing on Christmas Day 2024, just weeks before the anticipated Trump administration takes office. This transition has significant implications for student loans, particularly in light of the complex and often conflicting policies introduced by the Biden administration.  Turner and Hornsby delve into topics such as Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF), the impact of recent executive actions, and the potential changes under the incoming administration. They emphasize the importance of understanding the technical details of student loans, cautioning listeners to consult experts and carefully consider tax implications. The episode also highlights the importance of becoming a 'mini expert' in managing student loans due to the increased complexity of the system over the past 12-18 months. The two guest interviews featured in Episode 7 with Bruce Hornsby and Béla Fleck were recorded back-to-back by host/producer Carmel Holt. As it turns out, the threads that connect the two artists to each other and to Joni, make the conversations a perfect pair. Joni's then-husband, Larry Klein, played bass on and co-produced several of her albums in the '80s and '90s. He would also bring the two guests in this episode closer to each other and to their shared SHERO, Joni. Pianist and genre-blending musician Bruce Hornsby sings us through his Road to Joni, which includes Joni's first live album Miles of Aisles, a revelation that led him to devour her entire early catalogue, becoming a "complete Joni Mitchell devotee." In the 90's, Hornsby would go on to play on Shawn Colvin's second album, Fat City, produced by Larry Klein. Bruce ends by giving us a hint at a new project that he considers a "Paprika Plains"-like opus. Banjo player and fellow breaker of genre-boundaries Béla Fleck's Road began with a birthday gift from his stepfather: a copy of Blue that he would wear out that summer. Béla recounts how "The Last Time I Saw Richard" taught him entirely new emotions as a teenager. Later on, he tells us how he, too, played on Shawn Colvin's album with Hornsby and Klein, and got to record in Joni's house. He also shares the story of a terrifying overnight hospital stay his son and family endured, where they played Night Ride Home on repeat to get them through.
