Dr. Lawrence Feingold's new book, Touched by Christ: The Sacramental Economy available on Emmaus Academic Press, is a masterwork explaining the mysteries of the sacramental economy. Today we discuss why we need the sacraments, and how the sacraments are able to bestow God's grace to us. In our Patreon extra segment, (available to everyone this week) we discussed the 2020 Responsum by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith ruling that the formula "We Baptize" was not merely illicit, but also invalid. Since that time there have been at least a few instances of priests and deacons who used this form exclusively for decades and at least one instance of a young Priest having to validly receive his baptism and other sacraments when it was determined that he had been invalidly baptized as an infant. Many of the lay faithful were left wondering, "Does a pronoun really make that much of a difference?" Dr. Feingold explains. https://www.patreon.com/posts/65820254

Lawrence Feingold explains the relationship between Israel and the Church, and the relationship between Judaism and Christianity.
Why were many baptisms recently deemed invalid? Isn't the Church being legalistic to say the sacrament hangs on the mere change of one word? Isn't this just a silly teaching? Dr. Lawrence Feingold joins us to explain and unpack the Church's theology of baptism and to answer questions about the "I" vs. "We" issue. The Classical Theism Podcast aims to defend Catholic Christian ideas in conversation. With the help of various guests, I defend three pillars of the Catholic Christian worldview: (1) the God of classical theism exists, (2) Jesus is our Messiah and Lord, and (3) He founded the Catholic Church. We place a strong emphasis on the first pillar, defending classical theism, drawing upon the work of Thomistic philosopher Dr. Edward Feser and many others. How is the Eucharist prefigured in the Old Testament? What New Testament texts support Catholic doctrine on the Eucharist? Why should we think the mass is a sacrifice? Didn't Pope Gelasius say that the substance of bread and wine do not change? Doesn't this sacrifice re-crucify Christ or take away from the all-sufficiency of the crucifixion? We cover the Eucharist from the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Early Church Fathers, and discuss what happened to Eucharistic Theology when the Reformation happened. This is an unbelievably good discussion, with incredible depth, about the most central aspect of Catholic worship: the Eucharist. Why do Catholics believe what they believe about it? Why is it important? Why does it matter what we believe? For more from Dr. Feingold check out his incredible book The Eucharist: Mystery of Presence, Sacrifice, and Communion. The Eucharist: Mystery of Presence, Sacrifice, and Communion explores the three ends of the Sacrament of Sacraments: God's true presence, His redemptive sacrifice, and spiritual nourishment through communion with Him. In this follow-up to his groundbreaking work, Faith Comes From What Is Heard, Lawrence Feingold constructs a biblical vision of the Eucharist from its prefigurement in the Old Testament to its fulfillment in the New and presents the Eucharistic theology of the Church Fathers, St. Thomas Aquinas, and magisterial teaching from centuries past through today. The Eucharist is a masterful text, both challenging and spiritually rich, that comprehensively examines the unspeakable mystery that is the Eucharist. Learn more at https://bit.ly/2Zi4sPi
Welcome to The Open Door! This week we'll discuss matters theological. Our special guest is Prof. Lawrence Feingold. He teaches at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis. A prolific author, his most recent book is The Eucharist: Mystery of Presence, Sacrifice, and Communion. Prof. Feingold is also an active member of the Association of Hebrew Catholics. Among the questions we'll ask him are the following. As always, feel free to suggest others. What are some of the challenges and rewards of teaching theology in a Roman Catholic seminary? How might we best address the vocation crisis?Your focus is on systematic theology. Just what is it?What are some key points of convergence between philosophy and theology? Who are some of your favorite theologians? You are a member of the American Maritain Association. Does the work of Jacques Maritain fit into the creative relation between philosophy and theology?Could you explain the work of the Association of Hebrew Catholics? I understand you were an artist before studying theology. What role does beauty play in the way you do theology? Should the theology of art and beauty have a place in seminary formation?Does theology have a voice in the Public Square? If not, why not?Much discussion in the Public Square now centers on race and gender. How might a theologian contribute to that discussion? How might a theologian constructively criticize it?
Did you know that Mark wasn't the first gospel to be written? In fact, they were written in the order in which they appear in the Bible - Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic Podcast, I'm joined by the one and only Dr. Lawrence Feingold philosopher, theologian, and author to talk about typology and how the Catholic Church was prefigured in the Old Testament. This is absolutely an episode for the record books as Dr. Feingold takes us deep into biblical typology which begins, we learn, through looking at how Jesus Himself used the Old Testament. Through unpacking the biblical texts and with a deep knowledge of Scripture, Dr. Feingold shows how Israel was, indeed, a clear prefiguring of the one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church – and not merely an invisible collection of Christians.
