It's playtime! Pop Screen is starting a themed month on "autobiopics" - films where pop stars play themselves, but in a different context to the standard rock doc. The nearest we'll get to documentary is this film by Morgan Neville, which sees Pharrell Williams talk about his incredible career and range of star collaborators - Kendrick Lamar, Gwen Stefani, Jay-Z and more - through the medium of, er, Lego.Joining regular host Graham, Mark Harrison talks about the history of "brickfilms", the Lego franchise's move from studio to studio, and the vexed question of whether 'Happy' is annoying or not. We also talk about the film's insight into creativity, the other Pharrell Williams movie directed by Michel Gondry that you'll never see, and, of course, try to imagine what he thought he was doing with that bloody hat. It's the podcast of the summer! Our Patreon brings all the boys to the yard, and no wonder - we've just launched Graham and Mark Cunliffe's exclusive new arts and culture podcast The Arts Hole there. You'll find that along with Patreon exclusive episodes of this show - listen to the end to find out what's next - written articles about The Twilight Zone and Doctor Who, and much more. Film Festival Tickets: https://buytickets.at/thedopeyfoundation/2216905 PATREON: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast This Week on Dopey's Greatest Hits Dave opens the show emotionally wrecked after listening to Sublime's “Pool Shark,” reflecting on Bradley Nowell's addiction, the pain embedded in the song, and memories of his late friend Todd, who loved Sublime as much as he did. He talks Knicks euphoria, recovery gratitude, the upcoming Dopey Short Film Festival, and reads listener emails, Patreon comments, and Spotify reactions about the late Ryan Leone—sparking a conversation about storytelling, addiction, truth, exaggeration, and loss. The heart of the episode is a powerful interview with Jakob Nowell, son of Bradley Nowell and current frontman of Sublime. Jakob tells the story of growing up without his father, who died from a heroin overdose when Jakob was just one year old. He describes a chaotic childhood surrounded by drugs, violence, sex work, addiction, and instability, while also carrying the impossible weight of being “Bradley Nowell's son.” He talks about feeling like an outsider, escaping into fantasy, music, books, video games, and eventually drugs. Jakob shares how he started smoking weed at 12, escalated into pills, meth, alcohol, and speed, got kicked out of high school, moved to Long Beach, started playing music, and spiraled into severe addiction. He recounts suicide attempts, waking up in detox after a blackout, struggling through early sobriety, and ultimately finding recovery through AA and service. Dave and Jakob have an unusually honest conversation about identity, legacy, addiction, and recovery. Jakob discusses the burden of being compared to a father he never knew, the strange expectations people placed on him growing up, and what it feels like to now stand onstage singing Sublime songs with Bud Gaugh and Eric Wilson. The interview also explores Bradley's own attempts at recovery, the impact his death had on the family, the mythology surrounding rock-and-roll addiction, and the difference between glorifying substance abuse and surviving it. Jakob reflects on how sobriety gave him opportunities he never thought possible, including leading Sublime into a new chapter while continuing to build his own project, Jakob's Castle. Along the way they talk about Coachella, Gwen Stefani, punk rock, recovery culture, resentment, storytelling, mythology, and why “Pool Shark” remains one of the most accurate songs ever written about heroin addiction. The episode closes with Jakob Nowell performing “Pool Shark,” ALL THAT AND MORE MORE MORE MORE! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Thursday May 28th, 2026: Welcome back to The Mom Room! Today's solo episode starts with a realization I think a lot of parents are missing when it comes to social media and kids. The reason TikTok or Instagram may seem “harmless” to you… is because YOUR algorithm is tailored to YOU. My feed? Mostly Pomeranians, home content, Bravo drama, and random mom-life videos. So naturally, I assumed kids weren't really stumbling across anything too concerning besides the occasional swear word. Then one day I searched “massage” on TikTok looking for physio therapy exercises, self-massage, and lymphatic drainage videos… and what came up honestly shocked me. It completely changed the way I think about kids having unrestricted access to search features and social media in general. We need to talk about it.I also take a nostalgic detour into my childhood obsession with No Doubt and Gwen Stefani, including the iconic story of how my Grade 6 teacher somehow got a No Doubt t-shirt signed by Gwen just for me (still not over it). And finally, I tell the story of how I managed to absolutely destroy my car in an underground parking garage in Toronto a couple weekends ago… because apparently I need at least one humbling experience per month to keep me grounded.A little parenting, a little nostalgia, a little chaos. Enjoy!See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

On this week's episode of Artist Friendly, Joel Madden is joined by Linda Perry. Perry quickly made her mark as the primary songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist for 4 Non Blondes, where she penned the international hit “What's Up?” (which Thursday covered earlier this year). That album, 1992's Bigger, Better, Faster, More!, spent more than a year on the Billboard 200 following its release, going platinum and racking up millions of streams. Beyond that, Perry has become a major presence behind the scenes, producing Surfbort's Keep On Truckin' in 2021 and working with a slew of pop stars — including Gwen Stefani, Miley Cyrus, and Ariana Grande. Stopping by the Artist Friendly studio, she joins Madden for a wide-ranging conversation about legacy, creativity, and Let It Die Here — her first solo album in 25 years. ------- Listen to their Artist Friendly conversation on Spotify. ------- Follow Artist Friendly! Between her time as the frontwoman for 4 Non Blondes, her legendary songwriting catalog (for Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Gwen Stefani, Alicia Keys and more), her own solo career, and her outspoken activism, Linda Perry has already lived countless lives in the public eye. But the new documentary Linda Perry: Let It Die Here peels back brand-new layers to the musical firebrand, from being a mom to 9-year-old Rhodes to losing her own mother just after the singer/songwriter was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy. In addition to the film -- which premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival and is now in select theaters -- Perry also released the album Let It Die Here on Friday, her first solo album in more than a decade. When Perry sat down with the Billboard Pop Shop Podcast in March, she explained that the film and album were both a bit unexpected, with the documentary emerging from director Dan Hardy asking if he could shadow her in the studio and the album sort of pouring out from there. Today's guest is quite simply one of the most iconic voices in hip hop and R&B.She's the artist behind some of the biggest tracks of the early 2000s, including Who's That Girl, Let Me Blow Ya Mind with Gwen Stefani, and Gangsta Lovin'. These are songs that defined an era and still feel just as fresh today. It is of course, Eve.Born and raised in Philadelphia, Eve, rose to global fame as part of the legendary Ruff Ryders crew, working alongside names like DMX and Dr. Dre, before carving out her own hugely successful solo career. She became the third female rapper in history to have a number one album on the Billboard 200, won a Grammy, starred in film and television, and has remained one of the most respected and trailblazing women in the industry. But beyond the music, there's a whole other side to Eve, one shaped by travel. As she told me, she still feels like that “little girl from Philadelphia who got to see the world because of her music” . In this episode, we explore exactly how that journey has unfolded.I spoke to Eve a couple of weeks ago in person on the South Bank in London, in the beautiful Big Ben Balcony suite of the London Marriott County Hall, looking out over the houses of Parliament and Westminster Bridge. From childhood trips to the Jersey Shore, to falling in love with Jamaica, to building a life here in London, which she now calls home, I know you're going to love this one.Holly's Destination Recap: - Naturhotel Forsthofgut, Austria Eve's Destination Recap:Jersey Shore, USAKingston, Jamaica Bob Marley Beach, JamaicaNegril, JamaicaLondonIbiza Es Vedra, Ibiza New York, USASloveniaKasakhstan Colorado, USAOmanEve's Scorpion 25th Anniversary Edition (Red and Black Splatter, 2LP) is out now hereThis episode was recorded at the London Marriott Hotel County Hall. With thanks to…Airbnb - Your home might be worth more than you think. Canadian singer-songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk is known for her distinct voice and gift for writing songs rooted in honesty and vulnerability. It's a talent that's earned her a Grammy and multiple Junos. But you might not know that beyond her career as a successful solo artist, Chantal has also penned songs for some of the world's biggest artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Gwen Stefani and Kelly Clarkson. Now, she's reimagining those songs on her new cover album, In My Own Voice. Last fall, Chantal joined Tom Power at the piano in the Q studio to talk about the hits that made her a star in Canada, and why she wanted to reclaim some of the songs she's written for others.

This week, we are talking about bands that have rock stars in them: Supergroups and Offshoots. We once again discuss how a band consisting of well-known artists from other bands does not always equal great success. Dive in with us as we discuss and listen to some of the more obscure supergroups and offshoots that didn't break with huge mainstream success or stay around very long. What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show, Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection: an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week, we talk exclusively about Supergroups featuring famous solo artists and band members, along with Offshoots, which are bands that contain the bulk of a previous incarnation of a famous band. We hope that we turn you on to something new. Songs this week include: Alcatrazz – “Painted Lover” from Disturbing The Peace (1985) Subrosa – “World's Greatest Lover” from Never Bet The Devil Your Head (1997) Black Swan – “The Fire And The Flame” from Paralyzed (2026) THE LAST ROCKSTARS – “THE LAST ROCKSTARS (Paris Mix)” from THE LAST ROCKSTARS (2022) Circus Diablo - “Mad Parade” from Circus Diablo (2007) DREAMCAR – “We Rats” from Dream EP (2024) Swedish Metal Aid – “Give A Helpin' Hand” from Give A Helpin' Hand - single (1985) Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts! In this super special edition of SHEROES, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and bass legend, Gail Ann Dorsey sits down with Carmel Holt for a career-spanning conversation featuring the music that shaped her, and spotlighting some fellow SHEROES of the bass who Gail encountered along the way. For those unfamiliar with Gail Ann Dorsey's resume, not only has she put out albums of her own starting with 1988's The Corporate World, she also became a sought after session player, collaborator, and touring bassist, and became known as one of the world's greatest bass players. Gail has worked with everyone from Tears for Fears, Gang of Four, Bryan Ferry, Gwen Stefani, Indigo Girls, and Lenny Kravitz. And perhaps most notably, she spent over a decade playing bass and singing in David Bowie's touring band, and contributed to several of his studio albums. Currently Gail is readying her first solo work in 21 years, and the follow up to her 2004 album I Used To Be… and prepping for a 2026 solo tour.
Swing it, shake it, move it, make it!…is exactly what the nation was doing in 1997. Yes, that's right, Channel 5 was here and fiddling with that aerial to try and get a reception to see The Jack Docherty Show was what we were all up to. Robbie Williams even changed the lyrics to his breakout hit ‘Old Before I Die' in honour of this revolutionary fifth channel twiddlesome pastime. But of course this was but a fuzzy, interference-driven distraction compared to what was going on in, what the kids were still calling, ‘The Charts'. And OF COURSE the aforementioned lyrics were from the FOURTH NO1 in a row from those Spice Girls (AND it was a double A-Side, Mama!). That's right we were gripped by Geri's Brit Awards conquering Union Jack dress (for the correct reasons, flag waving nonces), but the girls were proving to be more popular than Swampy's tenancy under the A30 (another one for there kids) with En Vogue, Eternal, Ultra Naté, Gwen Stefani and a host of others reigning supreme in the hit parade. And there was so much more. As we see as we take out our CDs (possibly trapped in a broken 90s case) from summer 97's NOW 37!!Pop was back, Back, BACKSTREET! (Really?!? - Ed)Everyone's favourite sunshine trio Hanson were MMMBop-ping (!), Backstreet Boys were taking their shirts off (!!) No Mercy were taking a break from their restaurant shifts (possibly) and George Michael was, as always, just being incredible. However, HOWEVER…Over on CD2, there was - an identity. Britpop was either clinging on by its bitten and possibly chipped fingernails, recycling some flat champagne from their first album, staring at the sun (checks notes, avoids further U2 puns) or - more interestingly - evolving. And, boy, there were quite the classic run of tracks as The Verve, Supergrass, blur, The Seahorses and Radiohead provided some iconic memories. No Gallagher brothers on NOW37? No fear!(Actually, I think you'll find they were gearing up for the autumn release of Be Here Now, but the less said etc…)And joining me on this golden revisit of the pop landscape of NOW37 and providing more memories than a hungover Labour MP on the 2nd of May is writer, comic and all round 90s pop kid Marc Burrows. As his (quite wonderful) Britpop stand up show tours the nation, discover which compilation started Marc's musical journey, marvel at how a power chord changed his life, ruminate at what ‘indie through the sausage machine' sounds like, consider why we're picturing The Outhere Brothers and The Vengaboys on the A52 somewhere near Mablethorpe, revel in the NME review of Paranoid Android (it's worth waiting for) and nod your head knowingly as we explore why the Britpop party ending maybe wasn't such a bad thing. No, turn the aerial the other way - I think I can start to see something that may be Family Affairs. Or is it Milkshake Monkey..? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Today on the podcast I am joined by the legendary Stuart Trevor - founder of AllSaints. And now his latest project Stuart Trevor.I wanted to speak to Stuart because this podcast is about living before you run out of hours - and Stuart embodies this more than most. He started All Saints in the 90s and built it into a cult brand - dressing rockstars like Kings of Leon, The Who, Depeche Mode, Placebo and Destinys Child and Gwen Stefani - at its peak it had over 200 stores worldwide across 25 countries, with hundreds of millions of revenue. But he went on to sell it. Stuart had previously been scouted by two of the biggest fashion brands at the time - Paul Smith and Reiss - and ended up joining Reiss and working under David Reiss' tutelage for a while until he plucked the courage up to start his own brand. The shop has changed a lot now, it's a world away from the All Saints that Trevor poured his love and soul into - so this is a story of building what should exist, letting go, and moving on to a new passion in your next chapter. It's also a story of what happens when you seek to optimise JOY and FUN and not just productivity and efficiency. Much needed in today's world. Hosted on Acast. In part one of Red Eye Radio with Gary McNamara and Eric Harley, Nathan MacKinnon implies Canada was 'better team' despite losing Olympic gold medal to Team USA. MacKinnon missed a key opportunity, while Team USA capitalized on theirs to win gold in Milan. Also liberals upset as the USA hockey team uses Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird" as their theme song, Gwen Stefani's religious comments stirs up the left and Mexican forces seized rocket launchers capable of shooting down aircraft during the operation Sunday that killed cartel boss Ruben "Nemesio" Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho". In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the debut Bat for Lashes album, Fur and Gold, we take a detailed look at how it was made. Natasha Khan had grown up in Hertfordshire, England and studied art at the University of Brighton. After graduating, she taught as a schoolteacher while writing songs and performing as Bat for Lashes. Her manager, Dick O'Dell, got her a publishing deal and connected her with producer David Kosten to work on some demos. The first Bat for Lashes single, “The Wizard” was released on her own label in early 2006. After signing with Echo, Natasha and David began working on a full-length album together at Jacobs studio in the Surrey countryside. They brought in other musicians, including Abi Fry and Caroline Weeks, who had been playing as a group with Natasha at this time. Fur and Gold was eventually released in 2006. In this episode, Natasha Khan and David Kosten have an in-depth conversation where they revisit their initial collaboration that continued long after this record. David shares how he was first asked to co-write with Natasha until he realized she had no interest in co-writing and already had a fully formed vision for this album. Natasha describes wanting to create the world of the album and use unconventional recording techniques, such as recording in a forest and under blankets, to try to achieve the sound she had imagined. Even though Natasha had a fondness for lo-fi MIDI sounds, she worked with David to craft a unique hybrid of well-recorded acoustic instruments with lower quality digital components. The result was the Mercury Prize-nominated Fur and Gold, which launched Natasha's music into the world. From a cinematic approach of method acting and practical effects, to a shared love of girl groups, to David finding a CD-R meant for another producer, to a memorable tour with Devendra Banhart, to taking inspiration from contemporaries Cat Power, Joanna Newsom and Gwen Stefani, to being averse to anything trip-hop, to having high standards and holding the vision, we'll hear the stories around how the album came together.
In this second installment of collaborations, Steve picked the following artists: The Brian Setzer Orchestra w/ Gwen Stefani, Blondie w/ Duran Duran, Time Zone [Afrika Bambaataa/John Lydon], Etta James & Sugar Pie DeSanto, The Thorns [Shawn Mullins, Matthew Sweet, Pete Droge], Sharpe + Numan [Bill Sharpe and Gary Numan], Peter Holsapple & Chris Stamey, FFS [Franz Ferdinand + Sparks], Electronic [Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr], Michael Hutchence [with Andy Gill], WhoCares [Ian Gillan and Tony Iommi], Iggy Pop [with David Bowie]. In a federal civil complaint filed on January 23, 2026, in the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, Chad Hugo (51), co-founder of The Neptunes and N.E.R.D., accuses Pharrell Williams (52) of withholding royalties and profits, breaching fiduciary duty, concealing financial records, and systematically denying contractual and ownership rights across their iconic ventures.Hugo claims Pharrell has controlled revenues for years from The Neptunes and N.E.R.D., leaving him without his rightful share of album sales, streaming royalties, touring income, merchandise deals, trademarks, and licensing. He alleges being owed $325,000–$575,000 specifically from the 2017 N.E.R.D. album No One Ever Really Dies, with total potential damages ranging from $750,000 to over $1 million in unpaid royalties. Hugo also asserts he contributed to nearly 50 studio sessions between 2019–2021—providing production, composition, and sound design—yet was denied publishing shares, record royalties, and proper attribution as Pharrell took full credit. The dispute highlights ongoing issues with transparency: since 2021, Hugo has requested monthly statements, full financial records, third-party royalty reports, and annual accounts, receiving only limited documents. Review of these shows minimal revenue allocated to him, inconsistent with The Neptunes' massive commercial success. Hugo claims a 50% ownership interest in related entities and points to N.E.R.D. Music LLC's operating agreement (founded around 2014 with Pharrell, Hugo, and Shay Haley), which mandates routine disclosures and defined income splits—allegedly violated as Pharrell entered deals, including partnerships like Adidas, without consultation or disclosure.Hugo seeks a judicial declaration of his rights and Pharrell's obligations, full accounting, recovery of withheld profits, and punitive damages for alleged willful, fraudulent, and malicious conduct. A jury trial is requested.Pharrell's response, via statements to outlets like Billboard and USA TODAY, calls the lawsuit "premature," noting a standard accounting review is underway. His team insists there may not even be a dispute and affirms that any owed money will be paid, expressing good faith and respect for their shared history. This marks the second major clash, following Hugo's 2024 suit over Pharrell's alleged attempt to secure sole control of The Neptunes trademark—still pending into 2026 and escalating their rift to no communication. As pioneers behind hits for Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Gwen Stefani, and more—inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2022—The Neptunes' legacy now faces this high-stakes conflict amid Pharrell's prominent 2026 year.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
