Fleetwood Mac's iconic breakup album ‘Rumours' hit No.1 on the U.S. album charts on April 2nd, 1977, and has never really left the public consciousness since.  With banger after banger—Dreams, Go Your Own Way, The Chain—it resonated across generations, but perhaps especially with the band's boomer contemporaries, many experiencing troubled relationships of their own. At the time of its recording in California, Mick Fleetwood was reeling from a collapsed marriage, John and Christine McVie were divorcing, and Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham were locked in an emotional war, with Nicks soon to embark upon a relationship with Fleetwood. Recording Rumours was a year-long endurance test.  In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly uncover the mathematical formula for Fleetwood's cocaine consumpion; consider how TikTok has revived interest in this seminal LP; and reveal how, despite making positive noises, contemporary critics missed just how important the album would become… Further Reading: • ‘Rumours' (Library of Congress, 2017): https://www.loc.gov/static/programs/national-recording-preservation-board/documents/Rumours.pdf  • ‘Fleetwood Mac: In the Middle of the Road' (The Washington Post, 1977): https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/lifestyle/1977/02/09/fleetwood-mac-in-the-middle-of-the-road/537b612c-e519-4623-a118-144efcac1a1f/ • ‘Fleetwood Mac - Rumours [Full Album]' (Warner Records, 1977): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uFU79MGj00 #Music #70s #US #Celebrity Love the show? We had the pleasure of interviewing Sofía Valdés over Zoom video!Acclaimed Panamanian singer-songwriter Sofía Valdés unveils her anxiously awaited self-titled debut album, Sofía Valdés, out now via Warner Records. In bringing the 10-track album to life, Sofía worked extensively with producers Michael Uzowuru (known for his work on groundbreaking albums like Rosalía's Motomami and SZA's Ctrl), Alex Goose (Vince Staples, Childish Gambino) and Carter Lang (SZA, Lykke Li), as well as in-demand musicians like Local Natives guitarist Ryan Hahn and Diana Gordon. From the epic “Tacones Por La Puerta” featuring cinematic strings from acclaimed Brazilian composer Arthur Verocai to the guitar-driven funk of “Already Yours” and the tender plea on “Un Momento,” the album affirms Sofía as a bold and eloquent songwriter inspired by her family's deep, multi-generational connection to music. She paved the way for the album's arrival with fan favorite collaborations with Latin sensations DannyLux on “Lento” and Cuco on “How's That Working Out,” which earned widespread critical praise, including Rolling Stone who hailed its “modern bossa nova blend of jangly guitar and sleek beats perfect for late summer,” and Ones To Watch who called it “a collab of indie Latino royalty."Her catalog to date — including her previous EPs Silvia, In Bloom, and Ventura — has received a long list of critical acclaim from the likes of NPR, W Magazine, Interview Magazine, NYLON, and many more for her beautifully original blend of bossa nova, folk, and pop.ABOUT SOFÍA VALDÉS Sofia Valdes, a singer/songwriter born and bred in Panama, creates the kind of emo onally honest and beautifully original pop music that could only come from years of exploration. After learning to play guitar at the age of eight and writing her first song at 13, the independent-minded artist sharpened her craft in part by building an eclectic sonic vocabulary informed by everything from folk and bossa nova to '60s Motown and '70s soul. Valdes alchemizes those inspira ons into a sound all her own, gracing each track with her indelible songwriting and beguiling voice. With its transcendent melodies and shapeshifting rhythms, Ventura is an elegant introduction the vibrant musicality that may very well be in Valdes's blood: her great-grandfather was the legendary Cuban musician Miguelito Valdes, and her great-great grandmother was Silvia De Grasse (a Panamanian singer who once performed with Louis Armstrong). We want to hear from you! Linktree: https://linktr.ee/AnalyticIn this segment of Notorious Mass Effect, Analytic Dreamz breaks down Zach Bryan's latest single 'Blue Jean Baby'. Released on January 27, 2025, via Belting Bronco Records and Warner Records, this track was penned and produced by Bryan himself during a session in Philadelphia. With a runtime of just 2 minutes and 12 seconds, 'Blue Jean Baby' was born out of a promise made after the Philadelphia Eagles clinched a victory in the NFC Championship. Originally teased in 2023 but left off his 2024 album 'The Great American Bar Scene', Bryan described it as a "demo turned into a half song," setting modest expectations. The song's energetic and anthemic sound harks back to the style of 'Revival', offering a stark contrast to his more recent introspective work. Lyrically, 'Blue Jean Baby' captures the essence of a fleeting romance in a barroom setting, exploring themes of longing, farewells, and emotional detachment, with the 4 AM reference serving as a poignant symbol of both physical and emotional distance. Analytic Dreamz also discusses Bryan's future plans, including the potential release of his sixth studio album, possibly titled 'Motorbreath'. This might be his last under Warner Records as he hints at pursuing an independent path. Additionally, a documentary film titled 'Motorbreath', narrated by Matthew McConaughey, will explore a motorcycle road trip and the recording process of this final major-label project. Fans can also look forward to a duet version of Jack Van Cleaf's “Rattlesnake” set for release on January 29, 2025. We had the pleasure of interviewing Amble over Zoom video!Rising Irish folk trio Amble unveil their major label debut EP, The Commons, via Warner Records. Listen to it HEREBeloved for their descriptive storytelling, lyrics and powerful live performances, the band just announced their biggest headline tour to date for 2025, including shows at Dublin's Trinity College and New York's Bowery Ballroom, which sold out within minutes. The 30+ date run follows the band's entirely sold-out 2024 headline tour across US, Canada, UK and Ireland, including their debut performances in Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, and many more. The Commons includes previously released tracks, “Little White Chapel” and “The Commons,” plus three new tracks, including the standout ballad “Thoughts Flood Back To You,” “One Man's Love,” and“Luke The Navigator.” Throughout, the five-track EP explores themes of love, loss, and loneliness but always concludes with hope and wonder for the beautiful world around us.On writing the EP, the band explains, “Every one of our songs tells a story. We had no ambition to add bells or whistles or anything production-wise. We're putting a microphone in a room, recording the music, and that's it. All three members are songwriters, each contributing in their own unique way. Robbie's songs are based on personal experiences while Oisin – who also writes poetry and short stories– delivers somewhat more impressionistic work, and Ross admits he's more of a melody guy.”Stay tuned for much more from Amble in 2025.ABOUT AMBLEAmble are Robbie Cunningham, Oisin McCaffrey, and Ross Mc Nerney, a three-piece ensemble of songwriters hailing from the Midlands and West of Ireland. Amble's debut EP, 2023's Amble (Live), introduced a new, musing, trad-tinged trio of songwriters to the Irish music scene, followed by 2024'shighly distinctive Of Land and Sea, found the group expanding their sound to an ever-more global audience. Their songs present indelible marks of deft rural-related storytelling and musicality that is equally traditional and current. Unusually for a contemporary group, all three members are songwriters. Every song tells a story. Robbie, Ross, and Oisin write songs that provide a quick getaway: one minute you're at the center of life's relentless storms, the next you're sitting in the shelter and warmth of your local bar on a chilly winter‘s evening with friends, a drink, and the reliability of a great song. The unique perspective of three individual songwriters creates a peerless body of work - built on the now familiar, ruminative observations on the world and more fitting to the Amble journey - the stories unfolding each day within it.We want to hear from you! The Patrick Coffin Show | Interviews with influencers | Commentary about culture | Tools for transformation

In this commentary episode of the Patrick coffin show, Patrick does a review of the players and principles surrounding the bull's eye of the target known as Sean “Diddy” Combs, arrested last month by Damian Williams, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and William S. Walker, the Acting Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations.   Diddy was charged with a three-count indictment for racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution.     But this case is not about celebrity gossip or the downfall of one or two bad apples.    It is a revelation of the depth of depravity and denial that has always characterized the entertainment industry. The Diddy indictment alleges that between 2008 and 2024, he abused, threatened, and coerced women and others, and led a racketeering conspiracy that engaged in sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery, and obstruction of justice, among other crimes.   In the Hollyweird orbit of Epsteins and Weinsteins, why would a Combs indictment for similar behavior shock us? There are more questions to be asked.   Topics covered in this episode:   Why is no one talking about the “family tree” of mentorship and manipulation by the man who discovered Diddy, R&B producer Andre Harrell, and the man who discover Harrell—the creepy self-described bisexual Clive Davis, founder of Arista Records. How did Diddy's career really start? The litany of people connected to Diddy who showed up dead or seriously ill, like ex-girlfriend Kim Porter, JayZ's pregnant mistress Cathy White, singer Aaliyah, and radio host Wendy Williams. Former insiders to follow: R&B singer Jaguar Wright, comedian Katt Williams, and former Diddy bodyguard Gene Deal. Troubled rappers connected to Diddy: JayZ, Drake, Usher, 50 cent, Tupac Shakur, Biggie Smalls (aka the Notorious BIG), R. Kelly   Rappers are black proxies for largely non-black owners, who seem always to escape justice   Puff Combs' Bay Boy Records (owned by BMG, sold to Sony in 2008, CEO Rob Stringer; Travis Scott's Cactus Jack Records, distributed by Epic Records, owned by Sony Music Entertainment, CEO Rob Stringer; Drake's OVO Sound, an imprint of Warner Records from its formation until 2022, CEO Aaron Bay-Schuck; Tyler, The Creator, Odd Future Records, parent company, Sony Music Entertainmen, CEO Rob Stringer; Legendary DEF JAM records, parent company Universal Music Group, CEO Sir Lucian Grainge; Jay Z's Rock a Fella Records, owned by Universal Music Group, CEO is Sir Lucian Grainge; 50 Cent's G-Unit Records, owned by Universal Music Group, CEO Sir Lucian Grainge; Usher and Justin Bieber's RBMG Island Def Jam Music Group, run by Tunji Balogun, but the parent company is Universal Music Group, CEO Sir Lucian Grainge; Yo Gotti's Collective Music Group CMG, owned by parent company, Universal Music Group, CEO Lucian Grainge; Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, and distributed through Interscope Records, CEO Sir Sir Lucian Grainge (Dickon Stainer in the UK)   The grandaddy of all the non black music executives is Clive Davis, the main puppet master of Diddy, and the man who launched careers dating back to the 60s, from Tony Orlando, the Bay City Rollers, Aretyha Franklin, Whitney Houston and many others up to: Justin Bieber, perhaps the highest profile troubled artist in this toxic space.

On Episode 108 of the Guest Speaker Series, we welcome an artist we've been a fan of since before the inception of the podcast: Burlington, Vermont's very own maari of 99 Neighbors! maari, formerly known as Sam Paulino, is one of the founders of the viral sensation that was 99 Neighbors, a collective of 10 creatives all from the Burlington area who became household names after their breakout album ‘Television' in 2019. maari talks in detail how ‘Television' changed the band's lives, including the song “Champion” being featured on ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians', to then moving to Chicago and being signed to Warner Records and Chance the Rapper's management team. They were drawing numerous comparisons to other hip-hop collectives of the era, such as Odd Future and BROCKHAMPTON. Alas, all good things must come to an end, as maari details the group's recent decision to not release music together anymore at the conclusion of their 2021 album ‘Wherever You're Going I Hope It's Great'. He explains the desire for all of 99's members to branch out and release solo music, which ultimately led to maari teaming up with fellow Vermont-based producer Es-K for his debut solo album ‘All Is Fair In Love & War', a 10 track masterpiece which also features frequent Drake collaborator, Quentin Miller. Mike and maari also discuss a variety of other topics, including the cultural importance of SoundCloud, their mutual admiration for Brockton, MA's Van Buren Records, which artists he thinks are blending genres in the most creative ways, the state of Vermont's music scene, the hilarious name of his first ever hip-hop group as a kid, the amazing moment he got to meet Tyler, the Creator, and so much more. It's Friday, July 19th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Pakistani Muslims gunned down Catholic father of four A 29-year-old Pakistani Catholic father of four young children was gunned down by Muslim neighbors last week after he objected to their harassment of Catholics in the area, reports Morning Star News. Marshall Masih of Lahore was the sole breadwinner for his elderly parents, wife and four children – who ranged from 10 years old to 18 months old. Please pray God's comfort for the Masih family. Biden could withdraw from race imminently President Joe Biden is taking calls to step aside as the Democratic presidential candidate seriously and multiple Democratic officials think an exit is a matter of time, reports Reuters. Biden, 81, who recently contracted contracted COVID while campaigning in Las Vegas, has faced increasing pressure from heavyweights in his party to cede his position at the top of the ticket after a shoddy debate performance against former President Donald Trump as well as demonstrable mental acuity issues. Even Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York reportedly urged him to drop out of the race, reports ABC News. Describing assassination attempt, Trump said, “God is on my side.” Last night, as former President Donald Trump accepted the Republican presidential nomination in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he described Saturday night's assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, reports The Epoch Times. TRUMP: “I heard a loud whizzing sound and felt something hit me really, really hard on my right ear. I said to myself, ‘Wow, what was that? It can only be a bullet and moved my right hand to my ear, brought it down. My hand was covered with blood. I immediately knew it was very serious that we were under attack. I proceeded to drop to the ground. “Bullets were continuing to fly as very brave Secret Service agents rushed to the stage and pounced on top of me so that I would be protected. There was blood pouring everywhere and yet, in a certain way, I felt very safe because I had God on my side. (cheers) I felt that. “And the amazing thing is that prior to the shot, if I had not moved my head at that very last instant, the assassin's bullet would have perfectly hit its mark, and I would not be here tonight. We would not be together.” Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very ready help in trouble.” Trump opposes illegals invasion Biden has encouraged on southern border Trump described the difference between President Joe Biden, who has allowed the invasion into America at our Southern border, numbering 8-20 million, and the chart which he had referenced in Butler, Pennsylvania which saved his life as he looked toward it and escaped the assassin's bullet meant for his brain. TRUMP: “Less than four years ago, I handed this administration the strongest border in American history. But you can see on the chart that saved my life --that was the chart that saved my life -- I said, ‘Look at it. I'm so proud of it. I think it's one of the greatest. That was was done by the Border Patrol. One of the greatest charts I've ever seen. It showed everything just like that, you know, the chart. “Oh, there it is. That's pretty good. Wow!  Last time I put up that chart, I never really got to look at it. (laughter) But without that chart, I would not be here today! (cheers) “I said, ‘You've got to see this chart.' I was so proud of it. And by the time I got to there … I never got to see it that day. But I'm seeing it now. And I was very proud. And if you look at the arrow in the bottom, that's the lowest level, the one on the bottom, heavy red arrow. That's the lowest level of illegal immigrants ever to come into our country in recorded history, right there. That was my last week in office.” Trump: "I will make America affordable again." And Trump vowed to fix America's crippled economy and cast a vision not only for American energy independence again, but American energy dominance. TRUMP: “Starting on Day One, we will drive down prices and make America affordable again. It's not affordable. People can't live like this. Under this administration, groceries are up 57%, gasoline is up 60 and 70%. Mortgage rates have quadrupled. The total household costs have increased an average of $28,000 per family under this administration. “Republicans have a plan to bring down prices and bring them down very, very rapidly. by slashing energy costs. We will in turn reduce the cost of transportation, manufacturing, and all household goods. “And remember, we have more liquid gold under our feet than any other country by far. Under the Trump administration, just three and a half years ago, we were energy independent, but soon we will actually be better than that. We will be energy dominant and supply not only ourselves, but we will supply the rest of the world.” CBS News described Trump's 90-minute speech as the longest convention speech in modern American history. (You can read or search the transcript for key words through a special link at www.TheWorldview.com) News anchor Lou Dobbs has died Lou Dobbs, the conservative political pundit and longtime host of “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” on CNN and then Fox Business Network, has died. He was 78. After 30 years on the air on CNN, he announced his last broadcast on that cable news network in 2009. DOBBS: “This will be my last broadcast here on CNN where I've worked for the past 30 years. I'm the last of the original anchors here on CNN and I'm proud to have had the privilege of helping to build the world's first news network. “Over the past six months, it's become increasingly clear that strong winds of change have begun buffeting this country and affecting all of us. And some leaders in media, politics, and business have been urging me to go beyond the role here at CNN, and to engage in constructive problem solving, as well as to contribute positively to a better understanding of the great issues of our day.” Dobbs became known for his fight against illegal immigration, his warnings about Islamist terrorism, and his opposition to outsourcing when industrial jobs in the United States were being moved overseas, contributing to the economic and cultural collapse of small, industrial towns. Dobbs was also known for his pro-Trump coverage. Sitcom legend Bob Newhart, a faithful husband, has died And finally, comedian and sitcom legend Bob Newhart has died at age 94, reports Fox News. Known for his deadpan, stammering humor, Newhart, a comedian who left accounting, signed with Warner Records to record "The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart” which sold like hotcakes. He became known for "The Bob Newhart Show," a series which ran from 1972-1978 in which he portrayed a Chicago psychologist living with his wife.  Later, he starred in another sitcom called Newhart, which ran from 1982-1990, in which he portrayed a Vermont innkeeper in a small town with eccentric characters. In his later years, he played the father of Buddy, the unusually tall elf in the 2003 Christmas movie starring Will Ferrell. Unlike many of his multi-divorced Hollywood friends, Bob Newhart was married to his bride, Ginnie, for 60 years. In fact, on an awards show, Newhart shared this story about his wife to whom he had then been married for 40 years. NEWHART: “I have to thank my wife of 40 years. She has kept me grounded. She never lets me get too full of myself. “We have in California --  on Wednesdays, they pick up the garbage and you have to recycle it, you know, take plastic and the paper and that all goes in one, one place. “And very often late Tuesday, my wife will say to me, ‘Honey, would you take out the recycling? They're picking it up tomorrow and you got to separate it.' I will say to her, ‘Do you think Joanne Woodward asked, asked Paul Newman to recycle the, the cans and the plastic?' And she said, ‘If you were Paul Newman, I wouldn't ask you to do it.'” Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Friday, July 19th, in the year of our Lord 2024. Join me Adam McManus, and my two sons, Honor and Valor, at the Colorado Father-Son retreat Thursday, August 15th through Sunday, August 18th. Three news stories summarized & contextualized by analytic journalist Colin Wright.WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will plead guilty in deal with US and be freed from prisonSummary: Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks who published a trove of classified US military documents in 2010 and has been on the run from the US Justice Department ever since—initially spending years living in the Ecuadorian embassy in London, before being locked up in a UK prison—has reportedly made a deal that will see him plead guilty to one of the 18 charges on which he was indicted in 2019, which will allow him to return to his home country of Australia with a time-served sentence.Context: Assange was at the center of several major scandals in the early 20-teens, most of them linked to allegations of hacking, divulging state secrets, and embarrassing the US military, because many of the classified documents that were leaked by WikiLeaks were related to US activities in Afghanistan and Iraq, and diplomatic cables from around that same time, and several of them showed human rights violations or contained transcriptions of US officials insulting their international peers; Assange has long struggled against extradition to the US, fearing he would face the death penalty if sent there, and this agreement, if it's approved by a judge, would seem to end his long-time exile, allowing him to return home to his family without any additional prison time.—The Associated PressOne Sentence News is a reader-supported publication. To support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Music industry giants allege mass copyright violation by AI firmsSummary: A group of music industry entities, including Universal Music Group, Sony Music, and Warner Records, have sued Udio and Suno—a pair of AI-oriented music-generation companies—for allegedly ripping off songs owned by these labels to train their AI systems.Context: These companies are just two of many that have popped up over the past year or two, and which allow their customers to generate ostensibly original music just by describing what they want to make, and that's possible because the AI systems they use are trained on gobs of existing music, much of which is allegedly owned by these record labels, and which, according to these lawsuits, were incorporated into the training data illegally; this is similar to other lawsuits that are working their way through global court systems right now, related to books, photos, films, journalism and other sorts of human-made work that are being collected and aggregated by AI companies to train their models, and there's little in the way of existing legal precedent on this sort of thing, so it's difficult to say, at this point, how these sorts of cases will pan out in different legal jurisdictions.—Ars TechnicaChina becomes first country to retrieve rocks from the Moon's far sideSummary: The Chinese space program successfully returned lunar soil samples from the far side of the Moon, yesterday, marking yet another accomplishment for the burgeoning program, and a new first-ever achievement for humanity.Context: The Chang'e-6 mission was a follow-up to previous Chinese missions that demonstrated the country's growing capacity in space, initially allowing them to photograph and map the Moon's surface, then land on and deploy a rover on the side facing Earth, then deploying a rover on the far side of the Moon—a first for any space agency—in 2019; the agency's previous Moon mission brought about four pounds of Earth-side Moon regolith home (something that's only been previously accomplished by the US and Soviet Union), and this most recent achievement is thus far unique to China, which means it's a big deal in terms of their in-space credibility, but also for human knowledge, as those far-side lunar materials could teach us a lot about how that half differs from the side we continuously see, and about the Moon's origins.—The New York TimesUsed EVs have become less expensive in the US, on average, than their gas-consuming competition according to a recent report from iSeeCars; this price difference is being attributed to a perceptual value-drop in EVs, due to infrastructural limitations (especially a dearth of charging stations in some regions).—Business Insider$10.75 billionSum Amazon will invest on cloud and logistics infrastructure in Germany, most of it by 2026, according to a recent announcement by the company. That's in addition to a previously announced investment by Amazon in Germany, which (including the new sum) adds up to a total of just over $19 billion, this fresh investment alone creating something like 4,000 jobs in the country. —ReutersTrust Click Get full access to One Sentence News at onesentencenews.substack.com/subscribe

AI has gotten two start-ups in hot water.  Their use of AI for music creation has resulted in them being sued by three of the world's largest record labels: Sony, Universal Music Group, and Warner Records.  They say that the AI firms are making money from copied songs, and want $150,000 in compensation for each song that has allegedly been copied.  The New Zealand Chair of the Intellectual Property Society, Kate Duckworth, told Mike Hosking that this is likely to be the first of many cases.  She said that the defence is likely going to be that it was fair use —a strong defence in the United States— or that the songs were transformative works, as was claimed in a case about Andy Warhol.  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this Music Business Worldwide Podcast, MBW founder, Tim Ingham, interviews Aaron Bay-Schuck, the CEO and co-Chairman of Warner Records in Los Angeles.Right now, Warner Records is on fire like no other time in its recent history. It's seeing blockbuster success from several artists who, according to Bay-Schuck, are all true artist propositions – in this industry for the long-term, rather than just a quick streaming or TikTok hit. These artists include the likes of Teddy Swims, Benson Boone, Dua Lipa, and – not least – country star Zach Bryan, whose No.1 US single, I Remember Everything (feat. Kacey Musgraves), continues to bounce around the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100... despite being released last summer. Alongside his fellow co-Chairman, Tom Corson, Aaron Bay-Schuck last year led Warner Records to become the fourth biggest frontline record company in the US. According to Billboard, Warner Records 'current' US market share jumped by 110 basis points in 2023, up to 5.96% from 4.86% in 2022.Bay-Schuck's industry story before Warner was an interesting journey – from being a junior at the A&R team of Atlantic Records, where he signed Bruno Mars, through to becoming President of A&R at Interscope, where he worked with the likes of Imagine Dragons, Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani, and Selena Gomez. For Bay-Schuck, his more recent success with Zach Bryan and co. isn't evidence of Warner Records suddenly becoming a ‘hot' label. In his eyes, it's evidence of a patient, long-term, and consistent A&R strategy…Music Business Worldwide's Podcasts are supported by Voly Entertainment (previously known as Voly Music).

Remarkable Marketing

Marketers are trained to create targeted content for specific personas. But creating a message that's open to interpretation is a highly effective strategy that strikes a cord across personas.Because your audience will fill in the blank with how the message is meaningful for them. So instead of speaking to pain points specific to one role, speak to the human pain points. Maybe your product is a solution for a task that takes too much time or is overly complex, for example. Nobody likes feeling like they're wasting too much of their workday on one task. So talk about how your product saves time or simplifies their work. So in this episode of Remarkable, we're listening to Zach Bryan's song, “Something in the Orange,” the hit song that resonates with a wide range of listeners. That's because Zach Bryan's lyrics are open to interpretation. And we're talking with Todd Raphael, Head of Content at SkyHive, about how you can use this strategy in your content marketing to resonate with a wider audience. We'll also cover the best time to brainstorm content ideas and why you could easily double your output with one simple idea. So grab your cowboy hat and stare off into the sunset while you listen to this episode of Remarkable. About our guest, Todd RaphaelTodd Raphael is Head of Content at SkyHive, a cloud-based workforce management and reskilling software provider. Todd joined SkyHive in November 2022. He previously served as Head of Content at eightfold.ai. He also worked as Editor in Chief at ERE Media for over 14 years, and prior to that, Online Editor at Workforce.About SkyHiveRecognized as a top AI innovation by Forbes, a Gartner Cool Vendor in HCM, and a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, SkyHive is cognifying the world's labor economy and fundamentally changing how we work, learn, and live. SkyHive supports customers across all industries and geographies globally, and is focused on strengthening the overall economic resilience of workforces and communities.About “Something in the Orange” by Zach Bryan“Something in the Orange” is a song by American singer-songwriter Zach Bryan, a 25-year-old from Oologah, Oklahoma. Zach Bryan started writing music when he was 14, and putting it online when he was still serving in the Navy. His song “Heading South” ended up going viral after he posted a video of himself playing it on TikTok. He has two self-released albums, DeAnn and Elisabeth, and is now signed to Warner Records. His first studio album, American Heartbreak, debuted at number five on the US Billboard 200 with over 70,000 album-equivalent units. The 34-song triple album has been certified Platinum as of June 2023, with over 1 million units sold.“Something in the Orange” was Bryan's first charting single. He told Today's Country Radio that the song wasn't about “some deep, dark thing.” He came up with the idea while sitting in a cabin in Wisconsin watching the sun set. It's now certified 4x Platinum. His video for “Something in the Orange” starts with a message, saying, “Thousands of videos were submitted by my listeners for the video of Something in the Orange. I decided to make this myself because it's a feeling I know we've all shared at some point. Thank you guys for contributing and thank you guys for listening.” His idea to crowdsource videos reflects an appreciation of his fans, a sharing of energy, and a homegrown, grassroots effort true to his roots and the nature of country music. The video is a compilation of sunset videos taken by fans. What B2B Companies Can Learn From “Something in the Orange”:Leave room for interpretation in your marketing message to resonate with a wider audience. Create a marketing message that lets your audience fill in the gaps. “Our tool saves you time to do more of what you love.” Could mean spending time with loved ones, walking their dog, doing a hobby…your message doesn't have to be specific to strike a nerve. Todd says when he was looking at comments on Zach Bryan's video for “Something in the Orange, “the song means all of these different things to different people. It's a song about their grandma. It's a song about their dog. It's a song about their ex-boyfriend. It's all these different things.” So let your marketing speak to multiple personas by leaving room for the imagination.Create two versions of your content. One is the typical kind of B2B, serious, technical content. The other is conversational and human. Both can be your brand voice. Ian says, “We make content and we write it in a certain way, in a certain language and a certain approach. And then we just say, ‘Well, this is our brand voice,' as if that's how everybody just automatically wants to read stuff. You could get way more mileage by creating a second version of that same piece of content and writing it in an extremely conversational, approachable voice that's actually tied to a human being.” Zach Bryan wrote two versions of “Something in the Orange,” So create a second, conversational version to humanize your brand.Brainstorm content when you're doing everyday routine tasks. Todd says it's when people do their best thinking. He says, “We're walking the dog, we're riding a bike, we're doing something that's mindless and repetitive. It's always when we think of our best ideas. It's never during a brainstorming meeting.” Zach Bryan was sitting at a campfire when he wrote “Something in the Orange,” and it's during that contemplative time that the lyrics came to him easily. So take notes when you're out and about, and have a great idea for content.Quotes*”We choose the words for what words work best for SEO, instead of what emotions we want to provoke. People used to think of two different audiences, right? It was like pain avoiders and pleasure seekers.  Like, this car will keep you safe, versus this car is so much fun and so cool. And I think maybe sometimes we get away from that.” - Todd Raphael*”There's a lot of B2B content that is just done one cookie cutter way. And we always talk about repurposing for a different medium. But some people want the creative to feel different, to read differently.” - Ian FaisonTime Stamps[00:55] Meet Todd Raphael, Head of Content at SkyHive[1:36] What's Zach Bryan's song 'Something in the Orange' about?[2:39] What does Todd do at SkyHive?[4:10] Learn more about Zach Bryan's musical journey[8:01] What was the impact of 'Something in the Orange'?[11:30] How can you harness the power of storytelling in marketing?[24:00] What's the content strategy at SkyHive?[29:08] How does Todd prove the ROI of content?LinksListen to “Something in the Orange”Watch the music videoConnect with Todd on LinkedInLearn more about SkyHiveAbout Remarkable!Remarkable! is created by the team at Caspian Studios, the premier B2B Podcast-as-a-Service company. We had the pleasure of interviewing Pecos & The Rooftops over Zoom video!Pecos & The Rooftops have been perfecting a signature heavy blend of lowdown country and classic rock since their inception with the band living in a big five-bedroom house in Lubbock, Texas. Formed in 2019 by a tight-knit squad of college friends, the band outfits their soulful Americana with muscular guitar grit yet remains tuneful and melodic. They've carved out a singular niche for themselves in the rich songwriting tradition of their home state, as evidenced by their debut Warner Records single “5AM,” released in March. Anchored by the heart-baring songwriting and booming voice of former Marine Pecos Hurley, the band is rounded out by top-tier players and songwriters Brandon Jones (rhythm guitar), Zack Foster (lead guitar), Kalen Davis (bass), Garrett Peltier (drums) and Hunter Cassell (guitars & keys). Big things have small beginnings. Pecos & The Rooftops chose their name—a nod to the part of the house they'd hang out, drink beers, and jam on—just before self-releasing their debut single, 2019's slow-burning “This Damn Song.” It was a runaway success, earning an RIAA Platinum certification and going on to rack up more than 264 million streams globally. Deciding to ride the wave for as long as they could, the band hit the road immediately after and haven't stopped since, touring relentlessly on the club and festival circuit opening for the likes of rising country star Zach Bryan. They released the Red Eye EP in 2020, expanding on their already solid sound with extra emphasis on guitar structures and complex yet melodic arrangements, hinting at jazz and psychedelic influences. Hurley has a gift for exploring the shadowy sides of life through his songwriting, offering a clear-eyed and unflinching look at heartbreak, disconnection, self-medication, and wrestling with dark times.Pecos & The Rooftops have earned a devoted fan base who've come out to support them both online and, on the road, with the band garnering over 378 million global streams to date and more than 103 million video views. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing SkyeChristy over Zoom video!Primed for a breakthrough, buzzing Los Angeles duo SkyeChristy share a new single entitled “Beach Zombies” today and announce their signing to Warner Records.“Beach Zombies” threads dusty acoustic guitar through a glitchy electronic haze punctuated by a sparse beat. Their hypnotic intonation practically hovers over the soundscape as airy harmonies entwine seamlessly. Fittingly, it culminates with a summery apocalyptic chant, “They want me, beach zombie.” The release arrives on the heels of “I'm Not Like Alice,” “Sending Light (For Lucas)” and “Black Lake.” The sister duo is a sonic union of Georgia Christy Edwards and Sophie Skye Edwards. The Los Angeles natives began writing and recording music together in high school. They honed their voices in choir, even performing at Carnegie Hall as part of their school ensemble choir. Since 2020, they've unlocked the power of their familial harmony and have captivated fans around the globe. With their distinct signature sound and forthcoming debut project, the SkyeChristy's bond will only grow stronger. Get ready for a whole lot more from SkyeChristy. We want to hear from you!
