On today's episode I'm joined by and Jorge Izquierdo and Alejandro Perezpayá.   Jorge Izquierdo is the co-founder of Aragon, the first full featured on-chain DAO governance system. On this episode, Jorge and Alejandro Perezpayá join me to discuss the history of Aragon and their new startup Firm. First, Jorge tells the story of how he and Luis Cuende pivoted from a building a startup to fight patent trolls to cofounding Aragon in 2016, the year of the infamous DAO fork. We discuss the evolution of Aragon, and what worked and what didn't in the first iteration of onchain governance tooling on Ethereum. In the second half of the show we focus on Firm. Firm is an operating system for internet companies. The product combines Safe's multisig permissions affordances, Ricardian contracts for incorporation in a specific jurisdiction, and onchain representations of capitalization tables for transparent and onchain corporate ownership. As always, this show is provided for entertainment and education purposes only and does not constitute financial advice or any form of endorsement or suggestion. Crypto is risky and you alone are responsible for doing your research and making your own decisions. I think a lot of people with experience building DAOs discover a newfound appreciation for the tried and true corporate firm. It was great speaking with Jorge and Alejandro about their journey and perspective on the future of internet native companies. I hope you enjoy the show.

For centuries, we have been led to believe that nation states are the only way to organize humankind at scale. But governments all around the world are failing to react swiftly to the severe destruction of our planet from things like war and climate change, and this is endangering our whole species. Nation3 is ready to overturn this, by building a Web3-powered, tax-free, solarpunk sovereign cloud nation. It is structured as a DAO, meaning there is no legal entity, no gatekeepers, and no influence by trad states. The goal is to gradually build or invest in products and services that allow citizens to be actively involved in economic activity. The $NATION token serves as the gateway to participate in the community Discord, participate in governance decisions, receive an NFT passport, and eventually receive services provided by the new cloud nation. We were joined by founders Luis and Anastasiya to chat about why they see this is as necessary for humankind, how the legal, governance and economic aspects will work, and the long term visions for the project.Topics covered in this episode:Luis and Anastasiya's backgroundsThe problem that Nation3 is trying to solveHow the legal system worksThe differences between Nation3 and traditional nationsThe core services Nation3 will provideWhy is the nation tax-free and how will the economy be supported?Issues with selling passportsHow will democracy work? The biggest learnings from AragonWhat is the vision for acquiring landEpisode links: Nation3Nation3 TechtreeNation3 on TwitterAnastasiya on TwitterLuis on TwitterSponsors: Tally Ho: Tally Ho is a new wallet for Web3 and DeFi that sees the wallet as a public good. We talk about how these technologies are being experimented with, their convergence with gaming culture and potential to some day challenge the nation state itself.

This week’s interview is with Aragon co-founder Luis Cuende. Aragon is a platform for users to create their own decentralized autonomous organizations. DAOS are organizations that have as much of its operations put into code as possible, and have smart contracts execute those operations. Owners hold tokens of the DAO, much like owners of a company hold shares, and make management decisions by voting with those tokens. They’re as transparent, immutable and secure as the blockchains they run on. Aragon wants to make it easy for anyone to build these futuristic companies. Cuende started this project in 2016, at a time when most had given up on these organizations after the crash of what’s likely the most well-known DAO so far, called The DAO. The space has recovered and in the past year, thousands of DAOs holding millions of dollars have flourished. The dream of more fair and open organizations, which anyone can access and create, is back at a time when the world seems to really need them. People are losing trust in institutions and crypto can provide an alternative. But Cuende says he’s saddened to discover the space is nowhere near ready.

Humans organize into groups. There are lots of group types: religions, corporations, national governments, state governments, citizenries, clubs, musical bands. Every group has governance. Governance defines the rules, and the ways that rules change. The United States requires citizens to pay taxes. A corporation requires you to show up to work, but they have to The post How Aragon Manages DAOs with Luis Cuende appeared first on Software Engineering Daily.

This episode we talk about the current events of crypto. What was it like getting in years ago versus now?  If the prices drop 90% tomorrow, would you still be in? If the answer is no, crypto is probably not for you at this stage. Tina Penman, a healthcare researcher joins us on the roundtable to give us some perspective. In addition Luis Cuende is building Aragon because he believes decentralized organizations can solve the world’s worst problems. By making it possible for everyone in the world to organize, we are enabling a borderless, permissionless and more efficient creation of value. Ian Seyer, developer extraordinaire joins us for the interview to add another layer to our Q&A.

‘What's crazy for me is that for the first time in history we can actually try out new governance mechanisms without people dying in the streets.' The beauty of blockchain technology is in its ability to facilitate ‘bloodless wars' in which opposing sides compete without bloodshed and ultimately build a borderless world that is fair and free. Luis Cuende's interest in the blockchain began in 2011 when he was only 16 years old. After reading the Bitcoin white paper, Luis connected with others drawn to the idealistic implications of cryptocurrency and started working on blockchain pioneer Stampery, a service providing secure and decentralized proof of existence and ownership. In October of 2016, Luis co-founded Aragon, a governance platform for decentralized organizations. The project allows users to manage organizations via the blockchain with the intent of creating a fair, efficient world. It's no surprise that Luis is on the Forbes 30 Under 30 as well as MIT Technology Review's Spanish Innovators Under 35. Today Luis gets into the details of a decentralized organization, explaining its basic framework and how the governance mechanism works. We look at Aragon's IPO and discuss what other token sales can learn about transparency from the company's success. Luis offers his advice to future founders around cultivating community and his take on how a VR startup might use a decentralized organization to create a virtual world valued in tokens. We cover the valuation of crypto projects and the significance of sound technology over a curated marketing campaign. Listen in as Luis offers his profound insight on the growing popularity of cryptocurrency in Spain, fueled in part by the push for Catalonian independence.
