Subscribe, Rate, & Review on YouTube • Spotify • Apple Podcasts✨ About This Episode“The best academic lecture/slam poetry/sermon/magical invocation/attunement and invitation to engage I've experienced in a long while.”– Daniel LindenbargerNext week, after nearly nine years of development, this show grows up to become Humans On The Loop, a transdisciplinary exploration of agency in the age of automation. For long-time listeners of Future Fossils, not much will really change — philosophical investigations in the key of psychedelic futurism, voyages into the edges of what is and can be known, and boldly curious riffs on the immeasurable value of storytelling and imagination have always characterized this show. Many of the episodes I've shared in this last year especially were, effectively, preparations for this latest chapter and play as large a part in my ongoing journey to synthesize and translate everything I've learned from years of independent scholarship and institutional work in esteemed tech, science, and culture orgs…But we are no longer waiting for a weird future to arrive. We're living in it, and shaping it with every act and utterance. So in this “final” episode of Future Fossils before I we bring all of these investigations into the domain of practical applied inquiry, it felt right to ramp from FF to HOTL by sharing my talk and discussion for Stephen Reid's recent online course on Technological Metamodernism. This was a talk that left me feeling very full of hope for what's to come, in which I trace the constellations that connect some of my biggest inspirations, and outline the social transformations I see underway. This is a rapid and dynamic condensation of the big patterns I've noticed in the course of over 500 hours of recorded public dialogue and a lively primer on why I'm focusing on the attention and imagination as the two big forces that will continue to shape our lives in the worlds that come after modernity. It is also just the beginning.Thank you for being part of this adventure.✨ Support & Participate• Become a patron on Substack (my preference) or Patreon(15% off annual memberships until 12/21/24 with the code 15OFF12)• Make a tax-deductible donation to Humans On The Loop• Original paintings available as thank-you gifts for large donors• Hire me as an hourly consultant or advisor on retainer• Buy (most of) the books we discuss from Bookshop.org• Join the Future Fossils Facebook group• Join the Holistic Technology & Wise Innovation and Future Fossils Discord servers• Buy the show's music on Bandcamp — intro “Olympus Mons” from the Martian Arts EP and outro “Sonnet A” from the Double-Edged Sword EP• Read “An Oral History of The End of ‘Reality'”, my story mentioned in this episode.✨ ChaptersChapter 1: Reflections & Announcements (0:00:00)Chapter 2: Co-Evolution with AI and the Limits of Control (0:12:49)Chapter 3: Poetry as the Beginning and End of Scientific Knowledge (0:18:06)Chapter 4: The American Replacement of Nature and the Power of Narrative (0:24:05)Chapter 5: The End of “Reality” & The Beginning of Metamodern Nuance (28:58)Chapter 6: Q&A: Myths, Egregores, and Metamodern Technology vs. Wetiko & Moloch (0:34:52)Chapter 7: Q&A: Chaos Magic & Other Strategies for Navigating Complexity (45:59)Chapter 8: Q&A: Musings on Symbiogenesis & Selfhood (0:50:18)Chapter 9: Q&A: How Do We Legitimize These Approaches? To round out our season on the Reformers, we invite Methodist Bishop, Dr. Scott Jones to dialogue with Reformed Baptist pastor Aaron Wright. The question is one that divides some of the Reformation traditions: "Is perfection possible?" John Wesley would ultimately go further than, say, John Calvin or Luther in saying that, in a sense, perfect holiness was possible. But was he right? We do a bit of a deep dive to really focus on the kinds of issues the Reformation was all about. Thanks to Dr. Jones and Pr. Wright for stopping in!

Not a single one of us is perfect and many of us have cracks and breaks that are evidence of seasons of wilderness, loss, grief and confusion. But despite these cracks and flaws God, in His love, puts us back together in His only perfect way, and uses us to continue to bring Him glory and share experiences of His love with those around us. When his daughter was initially denied access to special education supports, Aaron began a quest to expose the flaws within the system that harm disabled children and deny them access to an appropriate education. His award-winning memoir, Thirteen Doors: A Family's Fight for Equal Access to Education, offers inspiration, hope, and hard-won insights for all parents who believe that disabled kids should get the education they deserve. Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) are entities that run on blockchains, make decisions collectively and probably never meet face to face. It's like corporations run over Discord, or as if Facebook Groups had money to spend. Priyanka Desai and Aaron Wright have started several for-profit DAOs that invest in companies and digital art via their startup OpenLaw and Illia Polosukhin, a co-founder of a blockchain called NEAR, is creating a sort of congress of DAOs in his ecosystem. The OpenLaw team heads up one of the largest NFT investment vehicles, Flamingo DAO. Aaron Wright, David Roon, and Priyanka Desai are at the forefront of DAO based organizational structures. With more than $1 billion now managed under these new structures and Wyoming officially accepting DAOs as a valid legal entity, I wanted to bring on a team that is pushing this space forward. In this episode we discuss how DAOs work, their limitations, and how Flamingo DAO functions operationally to invest in a wide variety of NFT projects. You can view the full show notes here.

Aaron is a husband and father of two, the youngest of which is autistic. Within his family's autism journey, Aaron learned what it can mean to truly advocate for your child. His family's experiences led him to write a book. Thirteen Doors is compelling, honest, and eye-opening. Together, Aaron and I discuss thoughts and ideas around the premise of his book. This is worth the listen. And Thirteen Doors is worth the read. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/michele-portlock/support

Aaron is the son of two educators and a staunch advocate for marginalized and vulnerable students in education and youth sports. He writes about his family's quest toward a free and appropriate education for his daughter, diagnosed with autism at an early age. His ultimate hope is to engage a national audience in a deep and meaningful conversation about our most vulnerable students and how they are losing their access to a suitable education and what can be done to change the system that is traumatizing children and their parents.Pre-order Thirteen Doors here If you are interested in getting 1:1 help with your child's IEP book todayThank you sooo much for listening. This week on The Money Movement, Jeremy interviews Professor of Economics and Director of the Blockchain Innovation Hub at RMIT University, Professor Jason Potts, followed by Luis Cuende, Co-founder at Aragon, and Aaron Wright, Co-founder at OpenLaw and Professor at Cardozo Law School. Public blockchain infrastructure creates a new global public good in the form of a system of shared and immutable record-keeping, transactions and rules-enforcement. We've explored how this infrastructure opens up massive transformations in the basic building blocks of finance, including ubiquitous global value exchange with stablecoins, and advancements through programmable money. Now we want to dive into some of the more profound possibilities that arrive with this technology, diving into the very essence of how we form organisations to create value, govern and coordinate economic activity. Going from the macro into the micro, we'll explore how blockchains are opening up completely new forms of global corporate forms. We are privileged to be joined by leading academic thinkers, entrepreneurs and technologists who are the very cutting edge of re-defining the firm in the age of blockchains. Be sure to tune-in and join us live on Thursday, May 28th at 1pm EDT, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube. About the show The global economy is experiencing unprecedented challenges and change.
