One of Bhagavan Ramana's Maharshi's favourite traditional spiritual works was the Ribhu Gita. He often referred to the Ribhu Gita in his talks with devotees and seekers, and is reported to have said that if one repeatedly read Chapter 26 of the Ribhu Gita one could pass spontaneously into Samadhi, or the natural state of Self- Realization. Ribhu Gita means "The song of sage Ribhu", who received the knowledge from Parama Siva, the supreme lord. It forms the sixth canto called Sankara of the hundred thousand verse epic Sri Siva Rahasyam.

The Do One Better! Podcast – Philanthropy, Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship
Maharshi Vaishnav, CEO of Educate Girls, discusses the organisation's mission and initiatives to tackle the persistent issue of girls' exclusion from education in India. Maharshi notes that despite significant progress in universalising primary and middle school education through legislative reforms like the Right to Education Act of 2009, structural barriers such as entrenched patriarchy, poverty, and limited access to social welfare programs still keep many girls out of school. Educate Girls operates in these marginalised pockets, focusing on tribal and rural communities where the challenges are most acute. Maharshi elaborates on the organisation's multi-faceted approach: identifying out-of-school girls, enrolling them in educational institutions, ensuring their retention, and addressing learning gaps through a proprietary remedial curriculum. This curriculum emphasises foundational literacy and numeracy in Hindi, English, and mathematics, complemented by life skills training for older girls. The innovative use of open schooling enables girls in areas lacking high school infrastructure to continue their education and achieve formal qualifications equivalent to high school graduation. The organisation's scale is impressive, spanning four states—Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar — covering 35,000 villages and engaging with over 55,000 schools. Educate Girls has enrolled 1.8 million previously out-of-school girls and improved learning outcomes for over 2 million children. These efforts are supported by 3,200 full-time staff and 21,000 community volunteers. A key highlight of the discussion is the evaluation of Educate Girls' impact through a randomised controlled trial (RCT). Conducted in collaboration with IDinsight, this RCT demonstrated substantial learning gains among participating students. Thank you for downloading this episode of the Do One Better Podcast. In this podcast, SBS interviews Maharshi Raval, Sydney-based tabla player, to discuss the evolving role of artificial intelligence in the music industry and its impact on traditional music forms. Raval, who frequently performs at multicultural community events, emphasised that while AI may influence music production, it can never replicate the magic of live, real instruments. He also highlighted the growing interest among younger generations in learning Indian classical music, underlining its cultural significance in today's diverse musical landscape.
The out-of-this-world spiritual poetry from the Padavali of Maharshi Mehi Paramhans today during this Spiritual Awakening Radio Podcast. Padavali recitations, music and hymns are by Madhulata Arya. Recitations and commentary in English are by James Bean. Today we share: "Close Your Physical Eyes and See With the Third Eye", "The Definition Of Sant Mat", "Seven Principles of Sant Mat", "Hail to the Sants", and "O Traveller! Seek the Path That Lies Within You." (mystic poetry) "O traveller! Seek the path that lies within you, You and your Beloved are in the same body; Your Beloved is pervading everywhere, but not being perceived, Those initiated by the master are able to recognize Him within their bodies... The glittering Point between the two eyebrows [Third Eye Center] is visible, O brothers and sisters! Closing your eyelids, try to see, Let the two currents of vision converge at the central Point between and behind the eyebrows, Fix your gaze and cross the material sphere and enter the Egg of the Universe; The Sky, studded with Stars, looks so wonderful, Light, like an earthen lamp, is visible that illuminates the darkness of the closed eyes..." The Indian sage Ramana Maharshi (1879- 1950) is perhaps the most widely known Indian spiritual figure of the last century, second only to Gandhi. Patrick Laude's book Surrendering to the Self: Ramana Maharshi's Message for the Present (Hurst, 2021) offers a fresh introduction to the Maharshi's life and teachings, intending to situate him within the non-dualistic traditions of Hinduism. It also delves into themes and questions particularly relevant to the spiritual crisis and search for meaning that have characterised, in various ways, both the modern and postmodern outlooks. The book comprises seven chapters that touch upon such central issues as the role of religion in Self-inquiry; the relationship between devotion and knowledge; the role and limitations of traditional forms; and the implications in our postmodern era of both the Maharshi's emphasis on surrender, and his basic question: 'Who am I?' Raj Balkaran is a scholar of Sanskrit narrative texts. He teaches at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and at his own virtual School of Indian Wisdom. For information see rajbalkaran.com. During today's podcast: a reading from the Sukhmani of Guru Arjan Dev found in the Adi Granth/Sikh Scriptures; Readings and commentary based on, The Light of Ajaib (SantJi) -- a section on the benefits of Simran; Spiritual Teachings of Baba Devi Sahab, and, The Inner Music -- from the Discourses of Baba Devi Sahab of Moradabad; Also, readings, explanation and commentary based on, The Padavali (Hymns, Mystic-Poetry,) of Maharshi Mehi Paramhans. "We do not do enough Simran... If we do Simran all the time, the amount of Simran which we are supposed to do can be done very easily, and after that when we sit for meditation -- since before we sit we would have done our Simran at once our soul will withdraw from the body and we will start hearing the Sound Current by itself. But because we do not place enough emphasis on Simran, that is why when we sit for meditation all our time is spent in just collecting our thoughts, and because we lack in Simran that is why we hardly withdraw our soul from our body." "Nowadays, what do people do? Whenever they have done a little bit of Simran during the day, and when their mind is a little bit quiet and still, then the Sound Current which they hear is very melodious and they like it, and sometimes they feel a little bit of withdrawal. Other times, when their mind is not quiet and they have not done enough Simran, then no doubt they hear the Sound Current, but still the Sound Current is not able to pull them up." "If we have done a lot of Simran and if we have brought our soul to the Eye Center, then our soul gets on the Shabd or the Sound which is coming there, which we hear there, and we are able to reach our Real Home. If we hear the Sound Current after perfecting our Simran and after reaching the Eye Center, that Sound Current or that Shabd will definitely pull us up, and we will like that very much." (The Light of Ajaib, SantJi) "It is the highest duty of every individual to acquire experiential knowledge of this Sound and to investigate or explore the Origin or Source from where this Sound flows out." (Baba Devi Sahab) "O traveler! If you wish to go alone on the path of the Lord, Look for the path within and do not delay; The four spheres of darkness, Light, Sound and Soundlessness (Anadi, Anami) -- They all lie within the temple of your body." Brahma pays a visit to Vishvamitra at Pushkara and rewards him with the status of a Rshi (seer). There he feels enamoured of Menaka, a celestial nymph deputed by Indra, and enjoys life with her for 10 years. At last he realises his folly and retires to the Himalayas, where he renews his austerities and is rewarded with the status of a Maharshi by Brahma. Still dissatisfied, he prosecutes his austerities with renewed vigour. Recitation: 00:00 - 04:09 Translation: 04:10 - 11:09
Maharshi Mehi Paramhans and other Sants (Saints and Mystics) of India have done, in the cultural context of Hinduism, what Sufis, Gnostics, and Christian Mystics have often done in relation to their respective traditions: focusing on the esoteric passages and teachings contained in their scriptures. They find mystic jewels or gold embedded in the "mud" of tradition, including references to the all-loving God beyond space, form and ritual. While not paying much homage to institutions or outer temples made of wood and stone, they make the heart of their message a contemplative meditation practice that promotes the exploration of the Light and Sound of Inner Space in the "temple" of the human body. Ribhu Gita means "The song of sage Ribhu", who received the knowledge from Parama Siva, the supreme lord. It forms the sixth canto called Sankara of the hundred thousand verse epic Sri Siva Rahasyam.
