A manga book from Japan has recently caught the attention of international travelers due to its seeming ability to predict the future, specifically the March 2011 Tohoku earthquake. Originally written and published in 1999, the newest version from 2021 now suggests there will be a mega quake somewhere between Japan and the Philippines on July 5, or within that month, 2025. The author and artist, Ryo Tatsuki, has been right about other future events too, including the 2020 pandemic. Reportedly, she obtains her insights from dreams and has become so popular she is being compared to Nostradamus or the Bulgarian blind woman Baba Vanga, who made a series of sometimes accurate predictions before her death in the 1990s, from current times all the way to the year 5,079, or the end of the world as we know it. Ryo Tatsuki is also predicting a second global pandemic due to COVID, or a variation of it, and implied by her July earthquake dream, a mega tsunami with massive waves.  There should be a debate about the differences between psychic predictions from dreams or visions, and the same predictions made my computer models and scientific analysis; about movies and tv shows making predictions or obtaining information through channeling sessions with spirits, and the nature of pure imagination; also, the influence art and reality have on one another. Either way, reports are that tourists are changing their plans or cancelling their trips to the far east as a result of Tatsuki's dreams, though the data doesn't seem to support that claim beyond small airlines or travel companies that are probably looking for free publicity. However, there are very real scientific fears of the Nankai Trough causing a massive earthquake and tsunami which has provoked the first ever mega quake warnings in Japan, followed by their revocation, followed by their reissuing. The same can be said about the western United States too, though some reports are nothing but pure sensationalism. Papa Francesco, nell'udienza generale del 28 febbraio, ha dedicato la sua catechesi al tema “L'invidia e la vanagloria” (Gal. 5, 24-36). Nel saluto ai pellegrini di lingua spagnola il Papa ha raccomandato di meditare con frequenza durante questa Quaresima le Litanie dell'umiltà del cardinale Rafael Merry del Val (1865-1930), per combattere i vizi che ci allontanano dalla vita in Cristo. Non è la prima volta che il Papa si riferisce a questa celebre preghiera del cardinale che fu segretario di Stato di san Pio X. Lo fece nell'udienza del 13 giugno 2019, proponendo come “una specie di decalogo” le Litanie dell'umiltà, che aveva ripreso dall'agenzia “Corrispondenza romana”, citata nell'ultima nota del suo discorso. La retta conoscenza di sé è la radice e la misura dell'umiltà. Il detto “conosci te stesso” era per i filosofi greci il fondamento della sapienza, ma per nessuna altra virtù, osserva il padre Cathrein, il conoscere sé stesso è più importante che per l'umiltà (L'umiltà cristiana, Morcelliana, Brescia 1931, pp. 35-37). Però i più grandi filosofi greci, come Aristotele, non hanno mai conosciuto l'umiltà, perché non hanno mai avuto il chiaro concetto cristiano della creazione dal nulla, e perciò non hanno mai raggiunto la completa chiarezza circa la vera natura delle relazioni dell'uomo con Dio. Creando l'uomo, Dio lo trae dal nulla e nel nulla l'uomo ricadrebbe, se Dio non lo mantenesse nell'essere in ogni momento della sua esistenza. Tutte le creature tornerebbero ad inabissarsi nel nulla, se Dio non le conservasse ininterrottamente nell'essere. Come dice san Paolo, “Dio regge tutto con la parola della sua potenza” (Eb. I, 3). Poiché Dio ha creato dal nulla tutte le cose e le conserva, le guida e le governa, è Lui l'altissimo e assoluto padrone e signore del cielo e della terra. L'umiltà innalza il suo edificio sulla conoscenza del proprio nulla. La società in cui viviamo esalta il principio di auto-determinazione dell'uomo che è antitetico al concetto di umiltà. L'autodeterminazione è indipendenza da tutti e da tutto, mentre l'umiltà è un sentimento di profonda dipendenza da Dio, di fronte a cui l'uomo riconosce di essere un nulla. Non basta però riconoscere teoricamente il nostro nulla dinanzi a Dio; bisogna viverlo nella pratica e le Litanie del cardinale Merry del Val ci aiutano a farlo. Se la retta ragione ci dice che siamo nulla in noi stessi, il nostro cuore deve amare il nascondimento e la dimenticanza di noi stessi, anche per la nostra profonda inclinazione al peccato, che ci deriva dal peccato originale. Per questo l'Imitazione di Cristo dice “Ama nesciri et nihil reputari” (L. I, c. 2, n. 3): “Desidera di essere ignorato e di essere ritenuto un nulla”. E' questo un principio fondamentale della vita cristiana espresso dalle Litanie dell'umiltà, con le quali chiediamo a Dio di essere liberati dai nostri desideri di onore e di gloria e dal timore di essere disprezzati e dimenticati dal nostro prossimo. Nell'ultima parte delle Litanie, che esprimono il grado più perfetto di umiltà, chiediamo di ricevere la grazia di desiderare che gli altri siano amati, stimati e preferiti a noi in ogni cosa, per meglio inabissarci nel nostro nulla. Ma ascoltiamo le parole del cardinale Merry del Val:O Gesù! mite ed umile di cuore! Queste litanie sono una risposta al narcisismo contemporaneo, cioè al bisogno sfrenato di ammirazione che si fonda sull'auto-inganno e su di una falsa rappresentazione della realtà, in cui l'esaltazione dell'Io si sostituisce alla gloria di Dio. Vivere nello spirito delle Litanie del cardinale Merry del Val significa vivere nello spirito del Vangelo, che ci ricorda: “chiunque si esalta sarà umiliato, chi invece si umilia sarà esaltato».(Lc, 18, 14)

Her name is Christina. Tonight, our story starts in Bulgaria and ends in the cosmos. Baba Vanga was a Bulgarian woman who lost her sight as a child. In 1923, at 12 years old, Vanga claimed that she was caught in a tornado and thrown into a field. After the storm, she could not be located and her family assembled a search party. After nearly 72 hours, Vanga was found. She was frightened, bruised and covered in dirt. She was cleaned and doctors addressed her superficial wounds but they found that she could not open her eyes. Vanga told them that her eyes hurt and felt as if there was sand and dirt inside of them. She claimed that she had her first vision during that storm. She eventually lost her sight over the following years. Her visions of the future became stronger during those years as well. Over time, she became world renowned for her accurate predictions which included the death of Hitler, Stalin, the Kennedy brothers, and numerous presidential elections. With this episode, we'll tell you about her life, her past predictions and what she said is in store for us for 2024 and beyond.
